The Hearthstone Bistro

The white turkey chili was delicious. And the Lake Michigan Whitefish was also very good. We'll be back!

You’ll be glad you decided to dine at Hearthstone before your first bite of food: The lovely landscaping, trellised outdoor seating, and graceful ironwork entry all point to a dining experience that will not disappoint. As advertised, this culinary gem in Muskegon, Michigan, is a bistro, bar, and grill. The menu offers favorites from American, French, and Italian cuisines. The wait staff was friendly and helpful as we pondered drinks, apps, and entrees; many offer wine pairings. The fare my four-person group ordered was beautifully cooked and plated. Of course, we shared apps: escargot, prepared in garlic and parsley butter; Maryland crab cakes,served with a dynamic poppy seed kale and cabbage slaw; and beef carpaccio, a spectacular dish of raw tenderloin, sliced thin and served with red onion, capers, and field greens. Our entrees included: pastrami on swirled rye; Butcher’s steak burger, a patty featuring oyster mushrooms gruyere and truffle mayo; almond brioche perch; and steak frites (I subbed the creamed spinach for fried root vegetables—a fantastic side). Lemon cake (a multi-layer pastry of lemon curd and cream cheese frosting) and black coffee were the endpoints of a unique food excursion. The only faux pas was a fried green tomato soup with bacon, which was too salty. One might argue the prices are a bit high for the communities served but Hearthstone is a fine-dining establishment that offers wonderful food and atmosphere—inside and outside. Bottom line: food is like art—personal and worth what you’re willing to pay.

Amazing food and terrific service!!! We always try to go there once a month for the chief specials!! We also used them for our wedding catering in August and they rocked it!! We did the dinner buffet and also had them do our cake as deserts! People are still talking about how amazing the food and desert was! So easy to work and communicate with. I’d highly recommend them for any catering!!

Excellent experience from beginning to end. Staff very attentive and friendly, even remembering to wish us a happy anniversary. We ordered two starters - the heritage tomato focaccia and the fennel and apple salad. Both delicious. For entrees we had the shrimp pesto linguine and the Faroe island salmon. Cooked to perfection. I could have eaten the Meyer lemon sauce with a spoon. For a cocktail, I had the Hearthstone martini which was wonderful. We loved sitting on the inner patio all decked out with flowers and chirping birds. Too bad there is some road noise, but they clearly have mitigated the noise with the plantings, etc. We were very pleased and highly recommend this fine establishment.

The Hearthstone Bistro is an amazing place to get great food. Everything was superb. The entire staff is amazing and the food is top notch. The environment is very cool, very cozy but not cramped with relaxing music. Would recommend to anyone that is in the area!!
