Melvin's Bbq

My partner was looking for BBQ experience at Charleston SC and we chose Melvin's. It is absolutely amazing! The portion size is humongous and we couldn't finish a full rack (12) of ribs and 6 chicken wings between two of us The smoked flavor was great and the service was super fast with pleasant crews. We are from a different state but would highly recommend to anyone passing by charleston South Carolina

Beloved BBQ in Mt Pleasant and Charleston. Everything on the menu is so good, traditional southern food. I regularly get the vegetable plate. Green beans, butter beans, sweet potato casserole, and Mac & cheese are my favorite. The brisket grilled cheese is heaven in your mouth. The BBQ chicken pieces are so very flavorful and tender and melt in your mouth. We have gotten the fill rack of ribs and can eat on it for 2 days between 2 people. Very good leftover. Burgers are great too. The banana pudding and milk shakes are a must. There other traditional southern desserts are so good too but they sellout so get them early. I love this place and eat at the Mt pleasant and James Island ones regularly.

EDIT: Melvins continues to be excellent. I usually have go to spots to eat, but this is NOW one of them. Every time I order, it is always perfect. And ill tell you that the staff here, AMAZING. great people all around, I am telling you now this is my ONLY BBQ spot, you can try whatever, but this place is CONSISTENT. Thank u guys for great food!! Recommended: Ribs, Chicken, Burgers and every appetizer.

We came to get something to eat and the food was delicious. The lady who worked the register was wonderful. Her name’s Marika, hope I remember it correct. She greeted us with a smile, super friendly and knowledgable and was very helpful with offering us what to choose from the menu. She made us feel very welcome. Great service and experience. We will make sure we come back.

Had dinner here. Got the pulled pork plate, 1/4 dark chicken plate and six smoked wings combo. Pulled pork was sweet from their sauce mixed in; the chickens were smoked well. The soda machine was broke so had to get either lemonade or iced tea. The sides (collard greens, sweet potato soufflé and fried okra) were delicious. The fried onion rings were huge but the crust was too sweet.

Maurice's to Melvin's.... it's liquid gold in SC. from Columbia to Charleston the Bessinger name is built on BBQ... I grew up eating at Piggie Park in Columbia in the '60s- my dad loved the place while stationed at FT. Jackson. So I've driven by and just hadn't had a chance to give Melvin his shot... a good smoked pork tumbled in a SC golden mustard sauce. A staple of the central SC lowlands.
