We first found this place from Pub Pass and then we met Shawn who never leads us in the wrong direction so we always end up enjoying this charming spot in Riverwest. The food is top notch. Every time I come here I have something I could never get enough of: today was hummus with that special hot sauce! The beer drafts are on point! Definitely one of the best tap selections in the city. Have to come back next time for the Meatwad and definitely brunch sometime. I don’t often take the time to review as many places as I should but I love this place! The people that come here are always rad too. We always have good conversation with smiling strangers at the bar, so welcoming all around! Add it to your list!
There is a million and one reasons to love the Riverwest Filling Station - the food, drinks, desserts, people, vibes, music, and general atmosphere. Honestly it’s one of my favorite restaurants of all time. Being that I am from San Francisco, this place feels the most like home. The menu is full of delicious foods that are reasonably priced. Something on the menu for everyone for sure. Brian, Miriam, Mary, and the whole staff are always wearing a smile and eager to see their guests come in and leave happy. They do a fantastic job. The inside is cute and cozy but contemporary and artfully thought out. Clean and hip, chill and even a nice place to have a get together with a few friends or have a meal by yourself or your sweetie.

Riverwest Filling Station has a varied menu and plenty of beer on tap. Food was delicious, and the service outstanding. The owner's mom was our waitress and brought out her son to chat with us after dinner. Our party of four enjoyed our dining experience at this great neighborhood eatery. The decor was beautiful. Great prices too!
Had a nice experience here. Food was very good but not life changing. They have a good selection of beers. The waitress we had was excellent and let us know the ins and outs of menu. I'd say if you were in Riverwest and looking for a sandwich and a drink you'd be well served stopping here.

Ok... this place gets 5 stars. I've been here 3 different times, but have had 4 burgers... if that doesn't add up, it's because on one if those trip I decided to order and eat an extra burger right after I finished the first one! It wasn't only me, two others from my table did the same thing. That's how good this burger is! I'm referring to the Meatwad burger.
The Meatwad:
8oz. charbroiled hamburger with 4oz. shaved smoked brisket, mushrooms, onions and Fontina cheese, topped with tiger sauce on a burger bun
Protip: this is a meaty one, so I add the house coleslaw on it to give it another later if flavor and texture.
I can not say how much I love this burger. Currently this burger is my favorite burger in the Milwaukee area, and 2nd to my all time favorite burger experience ever. The amazing part is that it is soooo consistently good, and trust me on that I've had it three time (I did try another burger once and although really good was missing the meatwad) and the 2nd and 3rd meatwad experience came from back to back days. Yes I think there's a pattern of addiction here.
I've had numerous of people try this burger and all gave the proper response: this burger is the ish.
Moving on from this burger. This place may seem on the pricier side but that's because believe it or not I think the chef is fancy. I mean look at the Googlemap images already, and read the menu and description.... this chef is a true chef and has the soul of an artist. I dont think this place serves your typical bar eats, it's much more glorious than that. If I can stop eating the meatwad, maybe I'll give one of their actual entrees a try... or just eat two things in one setting again.
This place is also a must go if you like specialty beers. This place serves a whole menu of beers! You can select from beers you've never even seen nor heard of before. An awesome thing is on the beer menu, all the beers are categorized and gives a short description of each beer. I've tried some beers that weren't for me, but I've also discovered some beers I feel in love with. One beer had the aroma of lanvander and tasted very citrusy without losing its taste of a beer (some leinenkugel flavors are a bit too sweet sometimes, these beers werent). You can also get two free sample of beers before you decide on one.
Moving on, the service was always great. Like purposefully great. Like they actually try to be friendly and attentative (ever notice that some places don't have servers like that?). I think maybe the food comes out a little slow, this is what I experienced each time I went, but hey you can't rush perfection (but of course should be considered).
Overall I highly recommend this place. I dont live near by, but I do study at the university near by so I think this may be a go to spot for me. Would be everyday if I had that type of money... this place is more on the pricier side, so for some who still want fast food prices (which are steady on the rise, but still serving limited quality) you might be reluctant for the burgers here. Either way I hope you try it out.
I have been there 3 times. I had the mushroom sandwich - which was AMAZING, the veggie sloppy joe, and the smoked salmon sandwich. All of them with yummy sweet potato fries. Whoever their cook is, they deserve a raise because the food is absolutely delicious. The owners are very friendly and the environment is very comfy either if you are going to a date or just out with some friends. Definitely recommends. (P.s: if you want an authentic Caipirinha, this is the place to go. I have NEVER found an authentic one anywhere else in Milwaukee).
Generous portions of beer battered perch (5) were enjoyed along with homemade coleslaw and tartar sauce. Very tasty! Currently they are doing takeout and my order was promptly made. I utilized their online ordering option and love that it is their own commission free ordering platform. Great owners and delicious food!
This is THE MOST kid friendly restaurant anywhere. So many toys, books, puzzles, etc. Very long restaurant so kids can be seated away from non kids tables so everyone is happy. The owners are crazy nice and caring. Some of the food is great but most is only good or okay. Excellent drinks and beer selection. I love this place so much that I over go to it but wish they would put some new stuff on the menu.
Long and short... Great for drinks. Great for atmosphere and comfort. I feel at home here. Just a little bored of eating my favorite stuff there.
Also, the soups of the days are pretty good too
Amazing, Amazing, Amazing! The food is superb, atmosphere is fun, the art installations are cool and its FAMILY FRIENDLY (Which is hard to find now-a-days)! Their happy hour special $7 burger is the best burger I've had in my life probably, no joke. Their duck and truffle fries are also a family favorite for us. We go a few times a month now. Would recommend if anyone is stopping in to Riverwest to check this place out.
The food and beer menu are both packed with variety. We went two Fridays in a row for fish fry and $3 happy hour Riverwest Steins. We received great service and were especially impressed by just how friendly it was for kids. There's a whole wall of toys in the back and changing stations in the bathrooms along with kid toilet seats! Amazing to find a place this hip AND accommodating for little ones. We'll be back again for the excellent fish fry and burgers.
Pains me to not give 5 stars, but I found it ridiculous we paid $70 for 3 beers, fish, and a burger. Like come on guys. Food was fantastic as always, owners are great, but the drastic hike in prices aren't cool.
