I didn't have a full meal but we did have some great beers, managing to land during the happy hour to get a discount on the first round. Service was good. Our waitress got a little distracted by the group at the patio but was other was otherwise friendly and helpful. Great stuff. Beers? Cold and delicious. A lager for first round and second, the Weihenstephean hefeweizen that was perfect, served with a slice of lemon. Cheese curds? AMAZING. Super hot, fresh, flavorful and exactly what I expect in Wisconsin. And we also split the pretzel, it was tasty stuff. I preferred the mustard over the cheese sauce. Good stuff!

Good selection of German beers and the food was good! We ordered a pretzel, smoked trout dip, and a brat. The pretzel was nice and soft—probably one of the better ones I’ve had. The atmosphere is very German (obviously) and they have a small patio in the back when the weather is nice. It’s a cozy spot that has a lot of character.

BEST CHEESE CURDS IN MILWAUKEE! My husband and I visited Milwaukee for a month and tried many different restaurants. By far, we loved the fried cheese curds here. We went twice in one month and loved all the food and drinks we got. The first time we brought our dog and sat outside. Also, didn't realize there was trivia nights on Thursday, was a fun surprise.

Missed Milwaukee's Octoberfest but since we were determined to get German food, we stopped by this establishment due to the high ratings and reviews - glad we did for our first time! We dined in the later evening, the place dimmed, the interesting decor and stained glass windows glistening, the tv screens playing movies, the crowd small and subtle during our visit. Although they ran out of the braised short rib that night, the food we ordered (pictured) was great. The pretzel with cheese and mustard was larger than life and delicious, so definitely recommend ordering that. The chicken schnitzel plate: chicken was crispy yet tender (not dry), loved the gravy over the chicken and spatzel - would have loved more spatzel and gravy, but I surprisingly really liked the warm sauerkraut and red cabbage! The star of the show was the smoked Hungarian - bold meaty flavor and the bourbon barbecue sauce took it to the next level. Fries were good, too. Husband also ordered two glasses of beer to drink along with food. Service was fine, as it seemed to be only one female server tending to the small crowd at the time. She was nice, quick, and attentive. Overall, we were very satisfied and will visit again when in the area. Thank you, Von Trier!

Fun bar with an excellent big pretzel. Both the mustard and cheese dip were house made and excellent. The bartender/server was very friendly and accommodating.

Sitting at the bar shortly after open on a Saturday. Really cool vibe. Incredible selection of draft beers; mostly central Europe with some locals. Excellent service; friendly bartender, very well connected with the area brewing scene. Didn't eat there, so can't add a fifth star for food AND beverage, but I feel comfortable strongly recommending this bar.

One of our favorite little hang out spots in Milwaukee. The atmosphere is always so chill and the drinks are good. We love the smoked trout dip!

Poutine and daily specials combined with great decor and a downtown vibe. Food was amazing, beer was on point, appreciate the decor though the place needs a thorough dusting and cleaning (can see dust webs eveywhere)

Always a good time, one of the more intimate bars on North Ave when you're hanging with a group or date. Although it's a German beer bar, the cocktails are great too.

This was our fourth visit to VonTriers. We love the beer garden and the large selection of imported beer. The giant pretzel is a must have at only $11. My husband had a braunschweiger melt and I had a turkey and black forest ham grilled sandwich. The warm German potato salad we both had was delightful. Our waitress was very knowledgeable about the food and beer. We had four beers, an appetizer, two entrees, and our bill was a little over $30! Great value if visiting Milwaukee's East side.
