Mike's China Beach Chinese

The Place for Chinese. We are visiting for a week and did not want to pay for overpriced and overrated hotel food, so we hoofed it up to Mike's China Beach based on its high approval ratings on US. Silly me, I did not notice that Mike's is a takeout joint. They do have two tables in the waiting area though, and we decided to eat there. We ordered the szechuan chicken and the lemon chicken along with some fried rice. The lemon chicken is battered in water chestnut flour and then fried. I really liked the fact they used whitemeat chicken for the dish. It made me regret that I did not order the General Tsao's chicken, which most places prepare with dark meat. I suspect Mike's can be talked into using white meat assuming that dark meat is the norm.

I had to beg and plead with my family to get them to go for Chinese food, but all of them were raving about the meal as we enjoyed it. The owners gave us some complimentary vegetable rolls that we quickly gobbled up. As we were packing up our leftovers to bring home, one of the owners said that he wanted to give us some of his famous honey chicken. I will be having that for lunch tomorrow. If were local, I would be a regular at Mike's. Few takeout places I've been to are run by people as nice as these folks.
