WOW!!! That about sums it up. This was our first time in Memphis and the first restaurant we ate at. The gentleman behind the counter was super friendly and helped us decided what to get. I had the Chicken and Waffles and it was soo yummy!! My husband had the Smothered Pork Chop with Collard Greens and Butter Beans. He started eating before I could get a pic. Lol but he said is was some of the best southern food he has ever had. Is a small little space, but the super friendly atmosphere along with some great music playing and the awesome food made this a great experience.
You know it was good when you come back the next night!!! Tonight we had Homemade Banana Pudding - and yes it was eaten first!! 🤷🏻♀️😂. Carlo had the Kool-Aid, Catfish with Yams and Okra. I had the Meatloaf with Corn and Mashed Potatoes. I wasn’t really a fan of the Meatloaf, but only because I like my ketchup baked on. But the meat itself had great flavor. Everything else was delicious!!!
Amazing food with grown man portions. Be patient cause they are making it from scratch.

I have been eating here for years. Warm welcoming staff and a bit of soul music. Wide variety of home style southern cooking. Also have vegan, vegetarian options. Near the Civil Rights Museum and Blues Foundation, on the trolley line. Quick take-away.
Really friendly establishment. I went to Memphis from Minnesota and this was the best soul food I could find. Great prices, great food, variety of options, quick service, hospitality at its finest, and oh so satisfying. This should be a staple for anyone living in or visiting Memphis. I highly recommend the Obama (Sweet tea and lemonade mix) and the best cornbread you'll ever have which is their sweet potato cornbread.
I had a wonderful time last Saturday. Not only was the staff great but other "regulars" were just as friendly and welcoming. I got the Ox tails, mac & cheese, fried okra, dressing and Sweet Tea! DELICIOUS! For me there is nothing more important at a restaurant than professional service (Mr. Nash👋🏽), quality food and a well kept and clean establishment. All of that and more is what I received while at Soul Food Express. If you haven't been, you NEED to try it! I'll probably see you there because I'll definitely go back.
Stopped in Memphis for the day on a long road trip and this food was exactly what I needed. I had the catfish sandwich with cornbread and a sweet tea and it was the best soul food I’ve ever had. The guy who served us was so nice we talked the whole time and made the experience even better. Totally recommend for anyone in the area and I will be coming back!
I visited here with my family, prices are a little high but you are guaranteed to leave full and happy. I enjoyed the catfish dinner , although the catfish was a little salty It definitely hit the spot. Their mac n cheese is too die for, and their deserts are definitely amazing. 5 stars definitely recommend eating here. Great customer service , although there may be a 5-10 minute wait on your food. It comes out HOT.
The food was good, and very inexpensive. The service was very good. I ordered a chicken leg with a side of greens. I was going to get the buttermilk corn muffins. The server asked if I'd tried the sweet potato corn muffins, claiming they were much better. They were very good. The server came over to see if everything was good and was very nice as I left as well.
Smothered chicken is delish. Owners super friendly. Unfortunately when i went today, there was no air conditioning. Not sure if thats a permanent thing or not, but i got my food to go! Cafeteria style service. They drop all fish fresh. Though its labeled 99cent, very little has the price. Lunch/dinner Menu attached. They also serve brunch on the weekend. All in all, dependable lunch spot for me.
My friends and I are on vacation and wanted some soul food while in town. We found Memphis Soul on Google.
Customer service is awesome. The staff was very personable. We were greeted immediately upon entering. I ordered the oxtails and rice, my side orders were greens and yams. The food was very well seasoned and was delicious.
I will definitely return when I'm in Memphis.
