Bob's Diner

Burnt food, prices have gone up with portions and quality going down. Floating employees to the Kennedy location, because they supposedly can't keep workers there. I assume it's probably a combination of poor leadership, lack of pay, & burn out. Minimal waitresses, but it's a small place... Just don't look up at the ceiling and you'll probably be ok & don't be friendly with previous staff because you'll learn how little the oil is changed in the fryers. Relocating next door, but even employees aren't sure how it will work with the lack of staffing. They need to get a supervisor/supervisors in there that make sure food quality is in place BEFORE it hits the table or Styrofoam container, a cook that is prideful within himself and the things he's preparing, and product restock being monitored (running out/never ordered). We ordered pancakes to split for the next morning (burnt), fish sandwich with chips (burnt sandwich & bun), & burrito (got VERY sick from). So sad, they used to be large portions (enough for next day) & reasonably priced. Inside info: When New boss came into the picture... the past manager, cook & some staff left and they just seem to struggle with any sort of consistency since.

I love Bob’s Diner in Carnegie, but this morning treated myself to a meal at their newly-renovated location in Kennedy. WOW! The space is lovely, sunny and bright with super cool artwork and a cheerful staff that makes you feel welcome from the moment you enter. And the new menu is loaded with diner and casual favorites, prepared at the top of their game under the oversight of a new chef with credentials that fine dining spots would envy. Example: two flavors of home-made quiche made fresh in their kitchen every morning — what diner does that?!? Owner Dane Marshall has done it again! Pittsburgh is lucky to have an institution like Bob’s.

Move the drink station away from counter. I talked to MOD. She understood my suggestion but felt like she can't change things even with arguing about ergonomics, safety and sanitation procedures. All improved with a small change. Slicing table has so many issues that I might call someone over it. Great reviews but needs improvement. Safety of your crew should be most important.

Would love to say that the food was excellent, but we wouldn't know. Some technical something prevented our order from being placed, according to our waitress, who assured us that our food would be out in 5 minutes. Fifteen minutes later, still no food, while every other table in the joint has been served. Apparently, nobody capable of making the logical decision to put the orders that "glitched" to the front of the line works there, which is a shame. So, we left, quite hungry, after waiting for about an hour. 51 minutes, if you're technical.

I feel bad about rating you 3 star instead of 5. Your newly remodeled location in Kennedy is really nice, extensive menu, well prepared food and friendly waitstaff. So why 3 stars? Fumes from the nail salon next door are making my wife and I, nauseous. Sunday just a little scent. We came back Thursday and it's overpowering. Your landlord needs to isolate your ventilation before it kills your otherwise beautiful business. 🙂
