First time my wife and I have been here. What a wonderful place to eat. Atmosphere was great! And the food beyond a doubt the best we’ve had in the area. The price is well worth the visit! The setting of having the diner located in an old gas station was genius. It really made me believe I was back in time. No detail missed on the ambiance. We ate at outside dining on a cold night and it was perfect. They showed us to the table, put down seating pads in each chair under a covered dining area with plenty of heaters to stay warm. They also had extra lap blankets for our legs. Wow they thought of everything! My meal starter with seasonal mulled wine that was perfectly made. My meal was sea bass over risotto rice and vegetables. It was crazy how perfect it was cooked. To perfection and not overdone and although we were in a gas station it felt like a fine dining experience. Folks everything we ate was beyond good. This is the place if you want to get out and have a change with great food and great atmosphere. We loved it! Thank you for a wonderful experience!!!

Soooo, the hype is real. The food was delicious seasoned from the meat entree [ribeye and porterhouse], especially the sauce. The dessert was okay.

I ordered the shrimp, scallops and grit cakes. It was served with vegetables and a yummy sauce. I also had the milk stout beer and a lemon dessert to go. It's the best meal, beer and dessert I've had during my trip to North Carolina. The atmosphere is very unique and interesting. The appearance from the street does not give you a clue how wonderful the dining experience will be. I wish I could post a picture of my meal. It was beautiful.

Wow! What a cool place to eat! Kate was our server. She did not disappoint 👏. The food was excellent with an atmosphere of relaxation. I am looking forward to my next meal there.

What a Gem in The sweet town of Marshall,NC
Treated to a birthday dinner and the first time at this unique and fun restaurant. Enjoyed the space which is a renovated and expanded Gulf gas station with many vintage designs and interesting art and accessories.
Delightful Bri was another joy in the experience as she was engaging and obviously appreciated the unique atmosphere and space. The food was amazing! Generous portions, enough to share. Oysters and shrimp cooked to perfection as the seafood was fully expressed and not over shadowed by seasoning. The pic of the lobster fettuccine is a half portion and was filled with full and abundant lobster meat. Topped it all off with vanilla crème brûlée! Yum. Reservation’s recommended and the earlier the better.

My husband and I visited Marshall last week and had, what we both agreed to be, not only the best MEAL but also service we have received in YEARS.
Tip: get the bread service. You won’t regret it. Have a drink by the fire table and enjoy a truly lovely time in a magical place.

Outstanding service and flavors. Star Diner is a true destination. Gorgeous views, filling and flavorful dishes. I loved my meal and the time we spent here. We were seated early and greeted warmly. Everything came out quickly. Super fresh and delicious. I hope to eat here again. I highly recommend. Make a reservation!

Absolutely amazing experience, start to finish. The host was kind and accommodating, our server was knowledgeable and upbeat. The wine selection is great, and we ordered more food than we ever had anywhere else. Everything was delicious and beyond expectations.
We had the bread service, fried gator tail, fried brussels with parmesan and bacon, the fried brie (we really don't often go out for fried food), the shrimp cakes, fried chicken saltimbocca, the almond crusted mountain trout, plus my partner got the lobster fettuccine while I got the cheese pie to take home. We'd originally been seated at a two seat table and were moved to a four seater to accommodate our huge spread of delightful food.
We definitely plan to return.
Update: Have since returned twice and the food has never failed to impress. This evening I got the escargot and the sea bass and both were beyond expectations. My sister and two friends are in town and they, my brother, and his partner all joined my partner and I. Everyone loved the food and we all had difficulty deciding what to order because the selections are all just so good.
This may be my favorite restaurant.

You wouldn't guess that you'd get fine dining level food out of what looks like an old gas station. Surprise!! The food is amazing. Everything from starters to dessert was absolutely delicious and the service was great. We had the scallops and beef short ribs for dinner and both were excellent. The lemon curd tart was perfectly tart and the pot de creme was a chocolate lovers dream come true.
They have a very small dining area (outside currently but that may change) so make sure you make reservations ahead of time. If you are in the area you don't want to miss this place!
