Food was good, a little different than we're used to (from the southeast). Seems like all the Mexican food in The Springs was expensive. Parking could be hit or miss. Service was ok. Server kept forgetting to bring the items asked for, wasn't terribly busy when we were there.
Party of 3 for a bday dinner. Parking is a bit sketchy to find sometimes. A wait of 30mins and not able to get a drink while we waited was the biggest bummer. Small and quaint and colorful on the inside. The queso fandido was so oily from the chorizo we had to use napkins to napkins to soak up all the grease. It tasted like pizza cheese, good though. Fish tacos, burritos and chili rellenos, we all pretty tasty. And some good strong Cadillac drinks to polish it off.. I don't think 1 of the drinks was enjoyable..was told it had like a grapefruit like after taste.. waitress she was cool. And on point.
The food was the best I have ever had. The meat was so flavorful, and the rice was so good. I had the pomegranate margarita which was also great. Will definitely be back the next time we are in the area!
Good food, good atmosphere- not te as-mex which is what I'm used to being from Texas.
But very good flavor combinations. The burrito with pinaple marinade steak was delicious.
Highly recommended.
favorite spot in town. the flavor of everything is different than anything in the springs. The nachos appetizer was so good, made with chorizo and cilantro and queso blanco. i ordered the shrimp baja tacos, which was amazing and fresh. i put the queso on top to add more flavor. Horchata is amazing, ginger beer is great. its tucked away in a cute mountain neighborhood, limited parking. great chips! The salsa is very heavily tomato flavor 🍅 i would give this place 6 stars if i could, the service was also amazing and quick!!
Being locals to the area, we've been coming to "The Cantina" long before it was so. It used to be The Misson Bell Inn, which was also a Mexican restaurant, which is perhaps why there's some confusion (and even a few complains) about the Cantina's Mexican-inspired food. 🤷♀️
To simplify it:
-Fantastic drinks.
-Delicious food!! *However* I agree that it's not "Mexican." It's not the same Mexican food that you'd experience in Texas, Pueblo, or New Mexico. It's also not authentic Mexico-Mexican food. But it is delicious, fragrant, and creative. The best I can describe it would be more Spanish/Chilean with a touch of gringo. My favorite menu item (lame, but true) is the saffron rice. 🤤
-The atmosphere is fantastic, but this is the kind of place you sneak away for an early lunch to. It's become quite "trendy." I feel like this is common sense, but if you bring a party of 6 here, on a Friday night, and expect to be seated right away and then have fantastic service... then you're going to be disappointed.
If you aim for an early or late lunch, however, especially on a week day, then you have a good chance of sitting on the patio and enjoying the beautiful surroundings and one-of-a-kind dishes.
-Prices are steep. Unfortunately, restaurants and businesses have to raise their prices due to Democratic policies. Did I just make this review political? You bet I did! Liberal policies have ruined so much, including penalizing our farmers, our truckers, and our small business owners. So it's really not the Cantina's fault that prices have creeped-up. Fresh veggies and beef are more expensive; gas to truck the food is higher than ever; and small businesses have to pay higher taxes.
So yes, prices are steep, but welcome to Biden's America.
We recently dined here and I must say it was an exceptional experience from start to finish. The service was impeccable; the staff was attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable about the menu. They made great recommendations and ensured our glasses were never empty.
Now, let's talk about the food. Every dish we ordered was phenomenal!
The ambiance of the restaurant was cozy and elegant, adding to the overall enjoyable atmosphere. Dining here was a memorable and delightful experience, thanks to the exceptional service and fantastic food.
Great place very close to where we stayed for the weekend. Food was delicious, and the drinks were hot!! I had wings and a habanero margarita and the Mrs. had a chili relleno.
Ate here a couple weeks ago in the off season based on the reviews. It was one of those places where everything on the plates was balanced and nuanced, which pictures of beans and sauce can't convey. Initially, was a little disappointed / wishing the pork had been cooked in the verde sauce instead of being added on top afterward, but instead found the pulled pork to be a standout on its own. It was moist and tasted like it had been marinated and cooked with care. Good with sauce or without. Kind of funky parking situation, like the site appeared to be a former residential house, but that added to the charm.
This was our anniversary dinner. The best reasons to go there is for the sour cherry margarita and sweet potato nachos with steak on top! Always a wonderful environment and the service is always been great! Thanks for a great anniversary dinner!
