Great Steaks, But Overpriced. Our dinner at Ruth's Chris began with the veal osso buco ravioli with spinach, which was nice though the spinach was still too bitter for my taste. We followed that with the petite filet and shrimp from the prix fixe menu and a ribeye. Both steaks were served on sizzling platters, buttery, perfectly cooked, and absolutely delicious. The filet melted in the mouth, while the ribeye had wonderfully rich flavor. If you don't order one of the preset dinners, the sides are a la carte, but the portions are big enough to share. We had garlic mashed potatoes and asparagus, both of which were above average. We took a slice of chocolate cheesecake to go, which completed an excellent meal.
That said, it is still hard to justify the price you pay to dine here. The steaks were great, but weren't the best I've ever had in a restaurant.
The service is quite professional and very attentive--almost annoyingly so as no need goes unfilled for more than an instant.
The interior is a little too dark, but ambiance is romantic, with candles at the tables and a fireplace in the dining room.

Good, but I don't feel good about going there.. We had a lovely dinner at Ruth Chris on Saturday night. It was packed, we had a reservation and were seated promptly following a nice greeting. My wine was wonderful, our food was wonderful. We both had the filet, mine the petite, my date's the regular. They were cooked to perfection, well, sort of. Mine was supposed to be medium rare, his was supposed to be medium and it appears that they confused the two. No matter, both were delicious. The panko onion rings are huge! Too many for two, but delicious. Our server was very kind and very attentive and kind of funny. She and everyone else making sure we were never out of water or additional plates were a little too much a part of our experience for our taste.
Although our meal was good I would much rather eat at the Tornado Room, which I feel has better food over all and might be minutely less expensive.
Oh, the sizzling butter thing tastes good initially, but we both felt it was too rich to really be sustainable. Additionally, they use corn fed beef. I would prefer to eat grass feed beef for many reasons, some of which don't make sense considering that I ate a steak sizzling on a plate of butter.
Best of madison. Yes the prices are unreasonably high, but I think fair for what you get. Its not often, even at a great restaurant like this that I am am pleased with every little thing and I was. The apps, soup, entree, dessert, drinks. Everything was just spectacular. Usualy when i dine theres one dish I say i was too fond of. At Ruth's I was amazed by even the bread.
Soooo expensive! Great tasting food, but I prefer to spend my money at non-chain restaurants.
The filet absolutely melts in your mouth! It is by far the best steak I have ever had! A bit pricey but so worth it! I know the filet looks small to some guys out there but trust me it is filling! In the fall they have their side that's called something like corn pudding. Sounds gross but is to die for! They also have the best thousand island salad dressing! I usually don't care about salad dressing but what I had was amazing! Never had a bad desert there. I usually get the deals instead of paying full price if I like what's there. Service has been top notch so far! The water in my water glass never hit the bottom!
Top notch steakhouse for the Madison area. Bar area is relaxing and comfortable. Service and food will not dissapoint.
Fabulous!. I have been here twice now - once for a business dinner and once with my family. The business dinner: Service for 60 was excellent, timely, and didn't interrupt the presentation. The tenderloin filet was excellent. The family dinner: The field greens and asparagus salad was delicious and almost could have been a meal in itself. The tomato soup with crab was also excellent. My son who doesn't eat salad completely finished his caesar salad! We all chose the filet and shrimp. We chose our steak to be done to varying degrees and the chef got them all done perfectly. Please try the bread pudding with whiskey sauce - it is heavenly! Service was excellent, as I would expect from a Ruth's Chris. Will definitely be back!
For our entrees, the husband and I both had the filet. And we both really liked it. One thing that is a bit different about Ruth’s Chris compared to other steakhouses that we’ve been to is that the steak is served on hot plates. Like 500 degrees hot. Like you can see the butter bubbling on the plate underneath the steak, hot.
