The best eggs benedict outside of the UK
Amazing place to enjoy your experience with friends. Delicious food with great service. Can't complain. I would recommend to a friend definitively.
Damn Doughylboys! That Sloppy Joe hit the spot like a smooth criminal. A breakfast daaaayum!
Will be definitely revisting that experience.
Everything ordered today was the bomb!
Pan Toast – cinnamon rolls and croissants soaked in custard and fried, with strawberries and strawberry syrup. First visited many years ago, in a larger location far from the cozy confines of 8146 West 3rd, it was with all but one member of the previous crew that breakfast was enjoyed at Doughboys Cafe & Bakery, the sweets retaining the high quality remembered from Rice Krispy Treats Pancakes and Red Velvet Cake though “Creamy Polenta” was actually clumpy with flavor trending quite bland.
Great breakfast. Was down visiting LA, and was told numerous times to check out Doughboy's and wow did it live up to the hype. Service was excellent (Ariella) and food was excellent! That red velvet pancake ... what an invention!
Toad in the Hole. If you like/LOVE olives & goat cheese, this breakfast dish hits the spot!
Big-Time Brunch. The Boy and I were wanting to go to brunch on President's Day, and we had two requirements: 1. that we be able to get brunch food at 1pm on a Monday and 2. that the place be within a reasonable distance of our apartment (it's a holiday, we're allowed to be lazy). We ended up settling on Doughboy's, a place I used to frequent for their roasted chicken sandwich but hadn't been to since high school. I ordered the sourdough semolina waffle with mascarpone cream, dried cherry compote, and strawberries, and the Boy got the Waffle Stack, which was that same waffle topped with a whole mess of stuff I can't even remember - eggs, gravy, cheese, the works. We also shared "nacho" potatoes, which were basically breakfast potatoes coated in cheese and served with sour cream, salsa, and guac (though they were out of guac and gave us avocados). The potatoes looked so sinfully good that the people next to us leaned over and grilled us for more info on them, and they were tasty, if pretty much what would be expected. My waffle was delicious as well - the compote, which I was worried about (I'm not always a huge cherry person), was awesome, and though the mascarpone would have been better if whipped with a little cream, it all made for a tasty brunch dish. The Boy had no complaints, though he couldn't finish his stack, and we walked away full and happy - we'll have to return to check out more of their enormous menu.
Got the monster and a coffee, both were delicious. Staff is extremely accommodating.
What a find!. I had heard their soups were amazing so a friend and I picked up lunch: Straciatella soup, Goat Cheese Salad and the Lentil with Ham Soup. What a wonderful surprise! The soup is a massive portion - enough for two to easily share. It came with a side of grilled bread which was phenomenal. Everything was very flavourful. I can't wait to go back and try some of their breakfast items or the Prosciutto with Camembert Sandwich
Back and Better Than Ever. This place is rockin and the food in incredible. There were 7 of us, so I got lots of tastings. The French Onion Soup is the best I've ever had! Garlic soup is yummy too. We had the BBQ Chix pizza & maragrita, both tasty & delicious. My son, the connesuir of grilled cheese, said it was the gooeyist and best he's had. Let me tell you, he's had his share at 10 years old. I had the Monster, with the extra sides they give you of spinach, tomatoes & horseradish sauce. That was very tasty and delicious. My honey had the French Dip with cheese and au jus. When I had taken a bite of his sandwich, I didn't want to give it back. The dripping cheese, the meat and the juice was unbelievable. We had the Famous Red Velvet for dessert, it was to die for. The icing is creamy and gives it a nice combo with the cake. Its moist and delicious. The other 2 desserts we tried were humming bird & lemon bars. Both were yummy and had you taking just one more bite till there was no more left. We loved Doughboys and can't wait to go back. The food was delicious, the bread fresh, the waiter was nice, knowledgable and friendly. They were packed too and our food was delivered in a timely manner and perfectly delicious. I dreaming of what I'll have next. Maybe the french dip and not share it with anyone.
Back to School Mac and Cheese - mac & cheese with freshly cooked elbow macaroni noodles blended perfectly with freshly melted cheese sauce...
Sad, one of my favorite places in L.A. closed...Read about it here: http://www.doughboys.net/whathappened.php...evidently even good places can be brought down, sad story. Here is another one of my posts about the place: Just in case it isn't clear by now
Good hearty food! Large portion. Delicious! Coffee serving size is a big mug, which I LOVED! good coffee too!
Came for breakfast on a rainy thursday. They had me at southern corn pudding and then there was pulled pork hash. Omg. $9 mimosas add up but the service was great and food was decadent.
Love their red velvet cake! I came here just for the redvelvet cake and it didnt let me down. Delicious cream cheese icing and very moist cake. I wish there was more icing though. Server was super friendly, and the whole ambience of the place was like a little quiet gem cafe tucked on the side of the road, great for studying or date on a chill relaxed afternoon. 😁
Awesome food choices especially with the pork alternatives, and the seating/background music creates the perfect balance. The pancakes were fluffy and the chicken sausage was very flavorful. I grabbed the red velvet cake (Oprah gave it rave reviews) + German chocolate cake for the flight home. Did not disappoint!!! Definitely will visit again. Must check out when you're in town.
Their grilled cheese and tomato soup is amazing. Portion sizes are big so don't order too much. Red velvet cake is so good. Best I had in LA would come back just for the cake.
The southern corn pudding special is a must try. Sweet, creamy, cheesy corn pudding is paired unconventionally yet successfully with pulled pork hash, grilled onions, corn, and potatoes. The whole thing is topped with two griddle fried eggs and broiled in a cast iron skillet. I got the eggs over easy in order to mix the yolky goodness all together. The result was an orgasm in my mouth. It's the best corn pudding I have ever had. I wish I could capture the sweetness in a bottle. It's a beautiful dish that is both hearty and flavorful. Bravo, Doughboys!
Another must try is the famous red velvet cake. It's worth a try even if you're not really a dessert person (which I am not). Desserts are usually too sweet for me and overwhelm me. Even I enjoyed this light, yet luscious, tasty pastry. This is the perfect level of sweetness without being overpowering. The presentation is gorgeous as well as the flavors. Doughboys can't miss!
Doughboys has an extensive breakfast and dinner menu. I've also had the salmon eggs Benedict, which was decent. I will gladly return to try other menu items, or, I might just have to stick with the corn pudding special! Enjoy.
This is my favorite restaurant in L.A.
Believe me when I say: absolutely the best pulled pork in Los Angeles. I used to live in the South, so I know (and stop judging me).
Shocking, right? It's really quite simple, though. They cook their pulled pork for a long time and in a light bit of sauce. Most of the other pork I've had around town is cooked perfectly but has absolutely no flavor. Why bother? Doughboys also serves the pork on a fantastic flat bread type thing with a side of sauce. Seriously amazing.
Other things to get here are the grilled cheese sandwich and tomato soup (After School Special) and the Beefy Mac & Cheese. Not for the timid. A seriously thick and delicious meal.
Jelly roll, chicken sausage, and cheesy breakfast potatoes were all amazing. The only thing I would give a to would be the almond strawberry French toast, it was very doughy in the center. After sending it back, the consistency was still mushy. I would call myself a French toast connoisseur, I love it toasty and brown on both sides. Over all the customer service was A-1 and they are known world wide for their Red Velvet Cake.
