Review The Little Jewel Of New Orleans - Los Angeles

Got takeout prior to watching an opera at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion and ordered online for pickup. We got a muffuletta as well as the seafood platter to split among four of us. The muffuletta was very heavy on the bread and not so much on the meat. I enjoyed the seafood platter more, which came with fried oysters, catfish, shrimp, and fries. They gave us remoulade, tartar sauce, and ketchup on the side. Credit cards accepted. Counter service if you dine in. Street parking. Employees were friendly.

First time ever having food from here. It's unique with a store and restaurant making it easy to find what you want while having great food. There's parking on the side. I will return whenever I travel Bank to LA

Had a wonderful experience here! Enjoyed the shop aspect (on the side), with authentic Louisiana hush puppy batter, craft beer, cafe du monde coffee, hot sauces etc. The food was bomb, just how you’d expect at a Po’ boy place in NOLA. I got the oyster fish (fried oysters, catfish) and my date got the fried shrimp po’ boy. Both were excellent; fresh bread, solid dressings, and hefty portions. Tasted great with hot sauce! All in all a great spot that I hope continues to thrive for years to come.

I am so glad I went to The Little Jewel! My group got the catflish platter, mixed seafood platter, a side of fried okra, and beignets. All of which was so tasty! The fish was very tender, okra fried perfectly, and beignets a perfect way to round out the meal. I'm glad there's a place nearby where I can get *great* Louisiana style food!

Talk about a true jewel.. more like gem. This place does creole food right and I mean right. You cannot go wrong with anything on the menu. The must get items for first time people are the shrimp po boy, a side whether it’s zucchini sticks or mozzarella sticks, and a delicious drink. This place is an easy 5 stars for food and the service is pretty fast for how fresh it is. So good and a must

I love this place! Why does it not have more reviews!? I got the shrimp Po boy, and the gumbo, both of which were delicious and excellent. I will come back.

I very, very rarely leave reviews, but this restaurant is insane! The customer service is fantastic, food was made fast, and that was the best Po-Boy I have ever had. I got the Cajun Pulled Pork. I have left now a grand total of 3 reviews, and this place has one. 100% worth any cost!

Craw Mac Deluxe - crawfish, shrimp, andouille sausage w/ side of corn bread / 5 🌟! I have know about Little Jewel for a long time now. I go once or twice a year. The owner/chef is often there and he is a boisterous and fun character who clearly cares about his guests. I have had many po boys here but the chef turned me on to the craw mac a while ago and I often find myself thinking about it, it is that good. It has a Cajun spice to it and it is loaded with proteins. You have to order the deluxe to get the side of corn bread and I recommend it to mop up the juices. Chinatown has been home recently to some excellent culinary creative chefs but Little Jewel has been around since it transformed into a foodie zone. Check them out if you're in the area and are hankering for some Cajun cuisine.

Delicious place true to its Cajun name. It really does taste like food from Louisiana, is well priced, and has a great interior vibe. Got the craw-mac deluxe (shrimp and sausage), and it came out hot and delicious! Lots of options to choose from.

The establishment is kinda old. We tried the oyster poboy, hot sausage poboy, shrimp, half/half poboy and seafood platter. The food had a kick to it. Everyone loved their poboys. The seafood platter was just ok. Beignets were dense and average. Overall pretty good food and good service.

Good Cajun food with a big choice, tasty catfish to shrimp & oyster poboys, chicory coffee, etc. All tasted was good. It's good to enjoy good New Orleans style food far away in LA, far away from Louisiana.

Love this place, I go to New Orleans once or twice a year and this place is legit and a heck of a lot closer. Seems to always be expanding too, I imagine will be a good place to watch football in the fall. Gumbo is delicious and I generally go with the daily specials, which they seem to mix up quite a bit. Charbroiled oysters weren't really up to snuff (nothing like New Orleans), but only had once and wasn't the best crop of oysters either (tiny) so I'll probably try them again at some point (love charbroiled oysters!).

I had the blackened shrimp po'boy with a crown. This was a giant sandwich filled to the brim with spicy sautéed shrimp. This was absolutely hands down the best po'boy I've ever eaten. This sandwich was so large I saved half for dinner the next day.

Really really food can be found here. The prices are reasonable. The staff is friendly. The vibe is chill. This is a hidden gem of downtown

I had three hours to kill, before making my connection for home, so I looked on Yelp! and I was pleased it was walking distance from Union Station. When I entered the restaurant, it reminded me of the casual Italian delicatessens in New Orleans which serve wonderful Po'boy sandwiches. I ordered the ultimate Soft Shell Crab sandwich with BBQ New Orleans style shrimp and a cup of chicory coffee. I paid $29.70 which included a 10% tip at an entirely self service restaurant and a 3% surcharge for using my debit card. I waited about ten minutes before picking up my order. The sandwich was gorgeous, radiating hot savory aromas of the crab and the shrimp, mixed with a spicy mayonnaise and pickles. The sandwich was exceptional and delicious. I look forward to trying other meals at this restaurant.

The food is delicious and the vibes are great. We’re so glad we stumbled on this place. This is one of those spots that makes Chinatown such a special food hub.

YESS!! FINALLY a true taste of N'awlins!! This spot is legit! My first time in, and DEFINITELY NOT my last!! There goes my diet! Lol🤗 Was a little irritated that the popcorn shrimp appetizer was from a bag - would've been better had they been fresh, like the po'boy shrimp.. but overall, GREAT! Looking forward to some quality Boudin Balls... if you don't know, you've been missing out!!👍🏽👍🏽

My boyfriend found this place on Yelp while looking for Mac & cheese & this place seriously hit the spot! The crawfish Mac is so tasteful and filling. The shrimp in the sandwich was also really good. The wings were habanero, I was expecting my mouth to burn buuuuut it didn't quiet get there, it has a kick to it and they're well cooked which is awesome but I eat so much spicy food it's rare for even the spiciest dish to be hot for me. I highly recommend this place because the Mac really left me satisfied! P.S there's a variety of drinks, alcoholic ones too! Complementary water! It's a little hot in there too but today's like in the 100's in L.A so that's understandable lol

Thank you, Guy Fieri, for featuring this AMAZING place on Triple D. OMG we wanted to order everything on the menu but decided on the Craw Mac, the Little Jewel Deluxe Half & Half (Mixed shrimp & oyster) & the Cochon de Lait (Cajun pulled pork) Po' Boys. Both were dressed with spicy Creole Slaw. The crayfish Mac was a meal. Velvety out of this world best ever. Both of the Po' Boys were absolutely divine. How fabulous it is to drive to China Town to step right into New Orleans. Can't wait to come back !

I love this place, it’s hard for a Cajun girl to find good Louisiana food in Cali. The Crawfish Mac& Cheese is the shit and the Po Boys are the legit (it’s all about the bread) plus there are so many to choose from. The shrimp and grits are another thing that is awesome. The Gumbo was the only thing that was ever not 100% it was not dark and has the consistency of gravy. I think they tried to thicken it and added too much, it didn’t taste bad just didn’t taste like gumbo and was way too light. Harlod and Belle’s still has the best Gumbo in LA so far. But everything else there is so freaking good. This place has so much personality and reminds me of home. Def try it if you haven’t

The service and food is the best!!! Flavor, flavor and flavor. This place knows how to deliver it.....

The seafood platter was great but I would remove the frozen popcorn shrimp and replace with some larger buttflied shrimp. I was born in Louisiana and this is the closest I have found in LA. Very yummy

Have missed Cajun food since leaving Louisiana. This was authentic and awesome! Highly recommend it. I had little jewel half and half oysters and shrimp. My niece had fried catfish platter and my husband the italian po boy. Love what I was able to find in the grocery too. I will return when next in LA.

Had the gumbo and split the oyster/shrimp po boy. Not disappointed even took some of my gumbo home. Popular place at lunch time. highly recommend

The best authentic new orleans food i have had in my ten years living in LA. Not only is Little Jewel tasty, their atmosphere is fun and relaxed and progressive in LA's Chinatown. Marcus, Eunah and the whole staff is welcoming and it makes you want to extend your lunch hour into happy hour or even just work out of their. I am absolutely in love with the people, the market, the restaurant and the overall vibe.

Just had the seafood gumbo, wasn't impressed. Lack of depth in flavor and hardly any seafood. Won't stop us from returning though...

This place is nothing most Angelenos are accustomed to. The restaurant has the back woods feel to it. Nothing close to being fancy. The fact it's basically a liquor store is somewhat ofd putting but again it gives that country ambience. The food, freaking amazing! I had Grits 3 ways (choice of Catfish, shrimp or spam) I had shrimp..it was devine! My companions had the cheeseburger and the New Orleans Style BBQ Shrimp Plate, they were over the moon about their selection. We also tried the Banana pudding and Bread pudding, not to our likings however they also have pecan pie and cheesecake so we will try those nexr time. The menu is extensive, think Cheesecake Factory. Can't wait to go back!

This place has amazing food. It's authentic NOLA style food that's worth the money. I just returned from a trip to New Orleans and I'm glad I found this restaurant for when I get nostalgic. Lol!

I only tried the boudin, it was the first time I ever had is prepared that way. But, it was good =) It was nice to have a taste from childhood. I'm the type of Cajun who would eat Boudin for breakfast =)

Great place hidden in the heart of Chinatown! Their menu is wonderfully insane and will definitely keep you coming back for more!

Amazing food! Everything we had was good! From grits with blackened catfish to fried catfish to shrimp po'boy to the banana pudding it was fabulous! Def going back!

Delicious!! Food was amazing, atmosphere was friendly, and the staff were super friendly, sociable, and welcoming. I feel like I was transported to New Orleans. The coffee, the chickory coffee from Cafe Du Monde was the best coffee I've ever had. I will definitely be returning, again and again and again.

Very good homemade food that has that distinct flavor of being in the Big Easy
