Review Osteria Mozza - Los Angeles

Kevin Leong
Drinks, appetizers, and pastas are good (5 stars) but the main course meat entrees are average (3 stars) and arguably below average if you consider the pricing. The meats are grilled so it has the char but not seared well so the texture is bland (I suppose that’s how most European places grill their steaks). The service is very friendly but not detailed - they are not knowledgeable on how the dishes are made and basically recommended everything as amazing which doesn’t help you decide at all. Overall, 4 stars so a good place but for the price, you can find better places.

Absolutely phenomenal! Great food, great service, really worth the trip. All of the pasta dishes were like little bites of heaven. The caeser was unique but tasted amazing and the mozzarella with tinned fish should be eaten every day!

Very good restaurant. Food was amazing, with great dishes in each course. Notably, the steak, corn pasta, and pepper mozzarella were superb. The service was very good and prompt. Waiters were fun and quick to help. Food came out at a reasonable pace as well. The atmosphere is great as well. The decor is dark, but with high ceilings, feels classy and not at all claustrophobic. Definitely worth a visit.

I came here for my 23rd birthday for a nice treat, and it was worth every penny. Overall, this was some of the best Italian inspired cuisine I have ever had in my life, coming second only to NYC. The pasta was very well done, with excellent flavor combinations in the proteins included with them. The appetizers were fantastic as well, with particular emphasis on the deconstructed ceasar salad. The staff were friendly, upbeat, and overall happy that we were there. They genuinely got to know what my level of familiarity was with the dishes they were offering, and in return gave excellent recommendations for drink and food. Overall, it is a no brainer that I will be returning here, there isn't a thing not to like!

This was a top place I wanted to try as I make my way through the Michelin Guide and it was 100% worth the stop! The servers were extremely helpful in picking some top options to try. Also, the in-house wine expert was helpful. I expressed to him what type of wine I typically like but that I wasn’t interested in an OTT bottle (I was by myself lol) and he was more than happy to help pick a happy medium.

A one-star Michelin Italian restaurant that I made a reservation for at 7:00 PM, but it was fully booked. Every dish was exceptional, but the burrata, in particular, was delicious. I heard they have a pizza place as well, so I'd love to visit that sometime.

After immersing myself in the captivating series "Chef's Table," showcasing the world's top 50 chefs, I couldn't pass up the chance to visit Osteria during my trip to Los Angeles. However, I had to extend my stay by one more day as the restaurant was closed on Thanksgiving, the day of my original visit. Filled with anticipation, I finally arrived at Osteria , Nancy, the renowned chef, was not present. Nonetheless, the atmosphere and the staff's attentiveness were exceptional. The appetizers served were truly delightful, but unfortunately, the steak salad turned out to be overly acidic, making it a challenging dish to enjoy. As for the drinks, they were alright but didn't stand out. Personally, I was left slightly disappointed with the overall dining experience at Osteria. However, I did have the pleasure of having a remarkable breakfast at La Brea, another establishment owned by Nancy, which truly impressed me.

Truly top quality Italian fare. Very professional service from staff. Ingredients above standard, you can taste the quality and skill involved in prepping these dishes. In house burrata of impeccable quality. Highly suggest the burrata sample option.

Regrettably, our reservation was delayed by over 20 minutes, causing some frustration. Nevertheless, the moment we were seated, our experience drastically improved. The waiter attending to us displayed outstanding attentiveness, helpfulness, and kindness. Furthermore, the food surpassed our expectations. It’s one of the most delicious restaurants I visited in restaurants in Los Angeles! it’s still expensive, but great for the quality and overall experience.

I've been daydreaming about Osteria Mozza for a very long time. Luckily, my wife secured us reservations as a surprise birthday gift and Mozza did NOT disappoint! I'm glad it didn't, we drove 1.5 hrs to make it happen. Location/Parking The restaurant is on the corner of Highland and Melrose. They don't have a parking lot onsite, but there is valet service for about $15 (this is Nov., 27, 2023). The restaurant opens at 1730 and we arrived at 1700. Mozza has a smaller pizzeria/bar next door so we opted for a drink before our reservation (the pizzeria looks great and we're going to have to return to try it out). Restaurant The restaurant opened at 1730 and we were received by incredibly friendly staff. The male staff wore white dress shirts and most had ties...loved this attention to detail. My wife mentioned that it was my birthday as soon as we walked in. Our waiter, bussers and other staff wished me a happy birthday. Another piece of attention to detail that made us appreciate the level of organization and training that has happened...to that end - THANK YOU! As expected, the front of the house and bathrooms were very clean and comfortable. Our waiter was very patient and proactively asked questions to ensure that our experience exceeded our expectations. Again, more attention to detail and superb training. The food was visually appealing and incredibly delicious. Antipasti: My wife's octopus was cooked to perfection and my baby chicory salad was refreshing and solidly good. Primi: The aglio e olio and caccio e pepe were perfect. However, our favorite, by far, was the aglio e olio. It's impressive how many restaurants can't make a decent aglio e olio. For us, Mozza has set the standard for this seemingly simple dish. Secondi: the beef tagliata with a side of roasted baby carrots was...well, delicious. Cannot recommend this dish enough. Dolci: the tiramisu was delicious. Don't visit Mozza without enjoying tiramisu and an Americano or espresso. You owe it to yourself. In short, this was a long awaited experience that exceeded my expectations. More importantly, thank you to everyone that made the experience so pleasurable. Our waiter/busser combo was a topnotch team; very attentive, never got close to running out of water or wine.

Absolutely incredible. My husband and I came here for our honeymoon and had the most amazing night. It ended up being our favorite memory from our trip! I wish I remembered our server's name, because she was the coolest person I think I have ever met. She was so full of life and wanted to get to know us. She started us off with some free champagne and ended with more to simply celebrate our honeymoon. She gave us so many recommendations and made sure everything was perfect for us. Nancy Silverton's obsession with bread is a blessing because the Fett'una was to die for. We ordered it with the Burrata and Peach to top it and it was so so good. My husband ordered the pork shank and it was INCREDIBLE. I don't even like pork! I ordered the Sweet Corn Cappellacci which was the perfect blend of sweet and savory. We told our server to just surprise us with whichever dessert she likes the most, and she brought us the Strawberry Gelato Pie. So so good! We cannot wait to try Nancy's other restaurants and come back to Osteria Mozza.

It's pricey, but you get what you pay for. Impeccable service. We had the best server, she was so knowledgeable about everything. We devoured the mozzarella the minute it landed on our table. We split our pastas 3 ways and they were ALL delicious. But those desserts thooooo. We got the chocolate ganache thing and tiramisu. Fantastic!

The food was fabulous. The service was fabulous. The restaurant was beautifully decorated. However, the noise level was really loud. So loud I could hardly hear the waitress and was quite disturbing. I would recommend the restaurant to install some sound dampening measures. That would give a much better experience.

We've had three pizzas: meat lover, burrata, and Alla Benno (pineapple). Because it's very thinly spread out, you actually don't get the typical intense pineapple flavor but overall it was still yummy if you adjust that expectation. The meat lover wasn't overly meaty but plenty (maybe not enough if you really want it swimming). All ingredients are of high quality and it's a traditional thin crust pizza. Because I've had pizza in Italy and know another plaace N of Seattle I personally prefer, I wasn't blown away but if you want a really good pizza, don't mind spending 25-30$ each (just the pizza!) and looking for parking (valet 15$) I definitely recommend it.

Incredible food and service! My partner and I came as a walk-in and were immediately seated around the mozzarella bar. We shared the garlic bread, summer panzanella, tagliatelle (oxtail ragù), orecchiette, beef tagliata, olive oil cakes and cookies & cream gelato. Everything was beyond delicious, but the oxtail ragu, tagliata and olive oil cakes have played rent free in my head ever since.

Sometimes when you go to well documented good restaurants, you get afraid it is just a hype. This time, it was for sure not. Italian food taken to another level. If you can, you must visit. Amazing food combined with fantastic service. What more could you ask for?

My wife and I spent our fifteenth anniversary here and it was worth every penny. Best meal we’ve ever had and the service went above and beyond. This place will become a habit for sure.

Was bummed the squid pasta was off the menu for Valentine’s Day. But the egg daviolo was awesome and I ate my friends oxtail pasta lol. Very fresh and homemade. The huckleberry donuts were excellent. Olive oil was very good w the bread. Great flavor. Wine selection was on point. And the grilled octopus was amazing. Great portion size. Excellent contrast in texture and mild harmonious blend of flavors.

The staff's knowledge is poor. The sommelier wants to sell the most expensive wine for no other reason than trying to take advantage of your presumed ignorance. The food is either poor or average. The staff isn't use to listen to you when you order. If you are use to Italian restaurants in Europe you will be very disappointed. But if your aim is to tell folks that you bought a bottle of red wine for 900 $ it is your place.

Superb service, lovely atmosphere and a wonderfully varied menu. The flavor combinations were unique and delicious. The much-touted ravioli exceeded our expectations; octopus beautifully prepared; mozzarella bar fun and unique. Vin Santo dessert wine with olive oil cake: it doesn't get much better than this!

My third time going. The flavor combinations are surprising in a good way. I have found the food is generally under seasoned in my experiences. Service is good for how busy the space is. Good atmosphere. Good but not great. There is better food. And for the price host a dinner party for four instead. Ciao

They have it all, atmosphere, great staff, and the most authentic Italian food. I knew it was going to be an amazing experience, but not at such a top drawer level. Thank you Nancy Silverton for your craft and vision.
Becky Brooker
Wonderful experience. The wait staff was so on point, friendly, and helpful. They helped make sure we didn't under order or over order. The food was fantastic. Definitely a must
Patrick Reilly
The food is great, the wait staff are good, but they're on the hustle. Don't listen to them about portion size. Order what you want and don't be coaxed into ordering too much for your table.

My visit to Osteria Mozza is the best dining experience I've ever had. The food was awesome, and the wait staff was even better. They took care of everything I needed, no matter how small. They made my night. There's nothing else to say!

Our friend brought me and my husband to Osteria Mozza for his Birthday. It is our first time there. We really enjoyed our dinner. The servers are very pleasant and their foods are very delicious. Our favorite was the Rib Eye. It was the best. Also the desserts was very delicious. My favorite was like a Donut. I forgot the name. But it melts in your mouth. I highly recommend it.

Incredible dining experience. So much more than just a meal! Everything from the attentive and friendly service to the curated menu was awesome. I’m still having burrata day dreams

I didn’t know what food should taste like until I ate here. Every single thing was perfection - the food (beyond perfection) the ambiance, the staff etc. Worth travelling back to LA just to eat here again. Couldn’t have loved it more!

My girlfriend and I just had an amazing dinner at Osteria Mozza. We had a three course bar meal which was really delicious. Service was kind, patient and attentive. Also glad I got to say hi to Nancy (the sweet owner of the place) who was present all evening in the restaurant. A highly recommendable place to get cocktails and dinner!
Jeannette Horibe
Food was really good here. Tagliatelle is a must try on the menu...really good. Service was impeccable here, they made sure all your needs were met. Would come here again!

My go to place when I’m in LA! Best mooz on Melrose and the Gnocchi di Castagne was off the charts! Mangiare Ciao Bella!
Emily Brudney Gruppman
Perfect food, perfect setting, perfect service. We couldn't have asked for a better experience. The best bread I've ever had and the olive oil cake and gelato were unreal!

Amazing experience ... The food was delicious ! Grilled octopus and the lamb chops were my favorite . Couple of celebrity sightings were the cherry on top . 😊
