Authentic taste of the Island. Not much to look at, especially amidst all of the resorts in which it is located, but food and service is fantastic! After discovering early in our trip we ordered their take out a few times and ate it overlooking the ocean for an even better experience. Great offering of local plates and Chinese offerings. Try the mixed plates or BBQ for a good variety. Portions are plentiful and the prices are very reasonable.
We came here after my girl found it on Google maps searching for food spots while visiting Maui for the first time. We have eaten at over 6 spots all over the island so far, Ono Kau Kau is by far one of the best meals we have had yet and to sweeten the deal our meal was only $25 (We only had water to drink) which is also one of the cheaper meals we have had while on Maui. She got the Kalua pork and lau lau with rice and Mac salad...so amazing and full of robust flavors in every bite of the pork and cabbage. The lau lau is new to me, but I enjoyed it and would eat it again. I personally ordered the loco moco and man, it has been one of the best I have had so far. If you want to enjoy some good quality local food, please check this spot out, small spot with only four tables that seat four and two outdoor tables. Will not disappoint! Our server was kind and extremely friendly - language barrier may present a problem if you are a person that is easily annoyed by "accents", I just put this out there because I know some mainlanders can't seem to tolerate others. ONOLICIOUS!
Come here every year ! As usual food quality was good, consistent and authentic! Owner sings loud when cooking, qiuite a character, cooking is way better than his singing lol ! we ordered for 7 people every dish was great ! Friendly staff, very accomating, try the Musubi, really good ! If you're like me , and focus on the food quality, then this is a 'must try '
Place is a hole in the wall but food is great !
This is a great spot to get some homemade style hawaiian plates and Chinese food. It’s a small operation but they are friendly, welcoming and efficient. I ordered the teriyaki beef and the hamburger. Both were very delicious and affordable. I will definitely come back
We were so happy to find this place on our first night. Got the Local Mix Plate (Kalua Pork and Lau Lau Mix) and Loco Moco Mini. Both tasted hella good. We'd definitely come back to try their other food. 😁🤙
Wide selection of both local and Chinese menu items. We did breakfast one day (Locomoco & French toast) and takeout dinner the next night (Kung Pao Chicken, Kalua Pork & Chicken Katsu) All was very tasty.
You could walk or drive by this place many times and not notice it. I've been coming to Maui every year for about 10 years and found this place a few years back and always make sure to come in. Locally owned, very nice people. The general Tso chicken is very good and I like the deep fried eggroll appetizer. They are fairly small so depending on your group you may want to order a couple of orders of the eggroll. The Pineapple Coconut shrimp is solid as well. If you are over in the Lahaina area and want some chinese food definitely give this place a shot!
我最喜欢这个饭店!
Wǒ zuì xǐhuān zhège fàndiàn!
Lovely, kind, and patient people who serve wonderful food.
They serve actual Chinese food here! The food is always delicious and authentic, which is why I always come back multiple times when I'm in Maui.
Plus they let me practice my Mandarin, so bonus.
Really great local dishes. We prefer Ono Kau Kau over The Aloha Plate. The menu is ginormous as they offer local Hawaiian fare and Chinese dishes. You can combine items into combos if you ask nicely. I had the kalbi short ribs and shrimp combo--tasty shrimp and average kalbi. Spouse had the loco moco and said he enjoyed it--well worth the cost with the portion size. Our friends had the Lau Lau and was by far the most delicious part of the meal--highly recommend.
This is a must visit for anyone who enjoys food. Featuring a menu with over 60 items, one can sample both local chow and classic Chinese cuisine, and you can't go wrong with either. Be warned, the portions are generous and you won't be able to stop. My only regrets are that I cannot rate higher than 5 stars, and that I did not try the Musubi.
