A lot of the negative reviews seem oddly critical to me. This place doesn't have an ounce of pretense. It's so obviously not promising you artisanally made salami and grass-fed cows' cheese. It's a neighborhood Italian joint. Nothing more nothing less. It's not fine dining but it's hot cheesy goodness. What's not to like?
We got a '16 New York pizza that fed 3 adults for around 20 bucks. Toss in a couple of bottles of 3 Buck Chuck and you have what I consider a completely acceptable Tuesday night supper.
I normally get a slice(huge) of pizza and a romaine salad, both items are fantastico! But today I had an Gyro and it was phenomenal.
Highly recommend this item on their menu, the tatziki sauce is nice and thick.
It had thick slices of tomatoes, big slices of red onion, and romaine lettuce.
The pita bread was not dry and neither was the Gyro meat(and lots of it).
I always get great food here.

One fine stromboli!. First time here, tried the stromboli and it was very good. Crust was chewy but light, sausage, cheese, and mushroom were fresh and in just the right amount. Kinda sketchy looking building, but don't let that fool you, everything inside is clean. Owner friendly and helpful. Only caveat is the Public Health Dept was checking everything during my visit...hope that's not a bad sign...but likely not, looking at all the great reviews below.
Delicious!!. We had slices of the combo and cheese. They were both delicious!! The staff was very pleasant and helpful ( brought food to our table). I will definitely be coming back!!
The pizza was ok. It wasn't great to see pizza out on the counter to choose from and then watch your slice head to the pizza oven to reheat. The menu was dated and falling apart - not that aesthetics are everything, but it seems like a little care could go a long way. For the price, it would've been cheaper to buy a whole pizza from Papa John's to feed my family of 3, but wouldn't be terrible to grab a single slice if I were out alone.
Enjoyed my pizza, but not my meatball sub.
A New Favorite!. If you are looking for pretentious, organic, "foo-foo" pizza, this is not the place for you. This is delicious, stick-to-your-ribs italian grab-a-bite-to-eat-and-go joint! It was a great sign when I walked in and the place was hopping with construction crews, engineers, bankers in ties, and families stealing a quick lunch together. That kind of diversity is always a good sign. The pizza is spectacular and the stromboli I had was hearty and flavorful. The prices are excellent, with the 2 slices and a drink special at $6.75, whether you get cheese pizza or the meat lovers. That is hard to beat anywhere in town. The staff was very polite and helpful. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone.
Best New York Style Pizza I have ever had!. Incredible pizza!!!! I have yet to find another pizza like it in New York!!!!! The owner Frank was so friendly as well as the the staff is usually on point. I would suggest ordering a whole pizza made fresh and cooked well done. That's the New York Style way to eat a pie! I look forward to returning.
I ordered the Baked Ziti and my husband ordered the Lasagne. Both portions were ample. I brought half of mine home for a second meal. I was a little surprised to pay over $40 for four meals in a restaurant that feels like a fast food place since you order at the counter, but I suppose these are the signs of the times. My youngest ordered spaghetti with red sauce...she said it was o.k., and my other daughter ordered two slices of cheese pizza. She was surprised by the size of the slices but said she didn't think the pizza was that good. Will we try Mamma Leone's again? Possibly, but it won't be on the top of the list.
Yum!. My husband is from New York and I am from Connecticut so we know good pizza and I have to say this is pretty darn good pizza. It is definitely as authentic New York style pizza as you are going to get anywhere is KC. I recommend it for sure! It is very similar to Original Pizza Co in Kansas. Are they the same owners?
We had great dinner here. Had spaghetti and meatballs, spaghetti and Chicken Parmesan, and roasted Ravioli.
Wifey had a Stromboli which she liked a lot.
A side salad went well with it.
Now a bit challenging to get into with major construction on Red Bridge.
Lots of pizza for slices, walk in ready. We'll try some next time.
Amazing pizza with great prices! I really love how reasonably priced they were and how efficient the customer service was. I definitely plan to return to try more slices and different flavors of pizza or side items.
Had a few great slices here! I need to try a fresh whole pizza from them, I'm certain that would bump it to a solid 5
We wanted GOOD pizza tonight and we got it. First time here. What a great find. Pizza was piping hot. I ordered 2 slices of cheese and had more than I could eat. Reminded me of NY pizza. The salad was loaded with cucumbers and tomatoes. My husband ordered the NY combo, plenty of toppings and delicious. My daughter ordered chicken and onions. It was real chunks of chicken and tons of onions. She said it was delicious. The pricing was reflective of the size of the portions. Also it a local business. Give them a try, you won’t be disappointed.
Great New York Pizza! Pasta, meatballs, calzones, delicious!
Lunch specials are great!Dine in, Carryout or Drive-thru!
Love this place. The pizza is outstanding. So is the Stromboli, lasagna, wings, gyros and desserts. The prices are affordable. Nice place to spend time with friends. Layed back atmosphere and the staff is friendly and helpful. One of the best kept secrets in KC.
Okay, so I discovered this wonderful place about a week and a half ago, and have now ordered 3 times 😁. Their pizzas are FANTASTIC! In my opinion, the best in Kansas City. Highly recommend!!
I am an NJ/NY transplant to KC and I’ve been complaining for over 8 years about KC pizza. Yes I’ve tried all the ones that people say are “really authentic” and had resigned myself to eating at pizza places here that have an okay tasting thing that is round and includes cheese and sauce and dough. Until I discovered Mamma Leones! This is good pizza and it is the only place I will be going ever.
Literally the best New York style pizza in the city. Frank is a great owner and has been above and beyond with service since day one
That was my second time eating there. The first time I went there their pizza was amazing and it's so Bixby the slice. I absolutely loved it and then we just went yesterday and I got a Italian sub and it was so good. I just love their food all of it, LOL.
