The only time I went to Palacana was back in March 2022, and the place went by the name of “Paleterias Tropicana”. Palacana is known for serving homemade, authentic Mexican ice cream, paletas, fruit cocktails, smoothies, churros, and traditional Mexican lunch & dinner dishes. When I went to Palacana (formerly called Paleterias Tropicana), I was impressed with seeing how many flavors of ice cream and sorbet sold there. Palacana is truly a chain of Mexican paleterias with 5 locations in the Kansas City metropolitan area, and one location in Wichita, KS. Palacana as “Paleterias Tropicana” was founded in 2004 and the Southwest Boulevard location is Palacana’s original flagship store.
The menu at Palacana has a little bit of breakfast, lunch, dinner, and a wide variety of every kind of Mexican dessert that a typical paleteria may serve. When I went to Palacana that was known as “Paleterias Tropicana” in March 2022, I ordered the Strawberry and Cheese ice cream flavor and it tasted what it sounded like which was strawberries mixed with cheese, but it was almost similar to a Strawberry Cheesecake. The place had good service, and the ice cream I ordered taste great. If customers are looking for a Mexican ice cream parlor with a wide variety of desserts along with frozen dessert flavors that also has a snack bar inside, Palacana would be the place for people to visit.

I'm going back soon. Got about five flavors and will bring my niece and nephew back. Great choices and it tastes so good.

Went here on a hot day and it was so refreshing! The ice cream was nice and soft. My husband and I got their horchata and coconut. Both were great portions, about 2 scoops each and well priced for the amount and quality. They have a huge selection of different goodies from churros to nachos to shaved ice and smoothies. I definitely recommend trying them out! They’re now our favorite ice cream shop in KC.

VERY LARGE SERVINGS. I got the Tres Marias and needed my friend’s help to finish it. Ice cream was delicious. Employee was very sweet and helpful. Clean establishment. Speaks both Spanish and English. You will definitely get your money’s worth!

Best ice cream. So smooth and creamy and full of flavor. Oh wow the strawberry cheese was divine, the coconut flavor was deep, the horchata tasted exactly like the drink, and the gansito tasted like pound cake! The service was very friendly and we received HUGE scoops, which were quickly devoured by two adults and one toddler.

YUM! Their banana splits are my current favorite, they’re popsicles are fresh and wrapped up if you want to take them home and the ice cream is great too. It’s not unusual for the line to be out the door because it’s a tiny space but don’t let that stop you, the line moves quick and it’s worth it.

This place is an absolute gem! I have been here twice in the past week and both times did not disappoint! They have such a great array of ice cream, popsicles and snacks. The elote and mangonada were delicious. Can't wait to try the rest of their menu!

So yummy... I am so happy to find this store tucked away here. It is like its own treasure. Fresh smoothies, ice cream, and treats.

Phenomenal sweet options! Wish we had found this when we moved to the KS/MO area. We will definitely return. We had “bolis, paletas y nieve en vaso” and they were all amazing. It wasn’t enough, that we had to take some to go too. The staff was friendly and offered their favorite recommendations.

Very good! The elote 🔥 very very good lol also the mangoneada especial can be deceptively filling. Store is smaller but I believe it adds to the atmosphere 💯

Staff was so incredibly kind, and encouraged so many homemade ice cream samples.

The family had a great experience having some really good ice cream , there is alot of icecream to choose from like cookie dough sundae was really good and the strawberry ice cream on waffle cone. Fair prices .A bit small inside but will be back for sure.

This place is a gem. The paletas (gourmet popsicles) alone make it worth a visit, but then add the amazing Mexican / Michoacán-inspired homemade ice creams, and the amazing fruit and (yes) vegetable concoctions, and it becomes a journey in flavors without leaving Kansas City, let alone Missouri. We’ve enjoyed this place for well over ten years and haven’t ever been disappointed. Parking can be a hassle, and it can get VERY busy (that’s because it’s good!). But Tropicana worth all of that. Give it a try!

Great little find! The ice cream was fabulous, the service was top notch. My grandchildren and I got to sit outside and visit with several of the friendly folks from the neighborhood.

I went here after eating dinner nearby. It reminded me of La Michoacán’s in Chicago. I definitely recommend el gansito flavor ice cream

I love it at Paletería Tropicana. I don't usually get sweets of any kind, unless I'm with my nieces and nephew but after just one visit they ask for every time they're with me. This time, I was headed to my parents' so I decided to get a variety of popsicles to bring to them. These are house-made and there's a ton of actual fruit in them! I've had fruit salads and ice cream from here and it's all amazing.

After Ponak's, we stopped by for ice cream.
Hard working, festive, well attended.

I should really go on a weekend and try one of the decadent dessert masterpieces, but I'm already addicted to the plentiful flavors of popsicles! So many unique options and always a helpful person behind the counter if you're not sure which one you want ;)
