First time here & must say I enjoyed it. Kinda like a old school lunch line with a soul food twist. I loved my smoothered pork chop & BBQ chicken with my side of mixed vegetables & yams with the corn bread muffin too. This was the spot for me on a Sunday afternoon.
This was another recommendation from a KV local and let me tell you o was not disappointed! This food was yummy. I do say get there early because they run out so some of the items I wants were not available. Also just a note they don’t serve catfish everyday and so when we went on a Sunday they were not serving which was definitely disappointing because it’s definitely talked a lot about. I got the smothered pork chop ala carte and a veggie plate. My friend got the fried chicken. Both were great options and delicious! The sauce that they smother that pork chop is so so so good. The sides that I had included mouthwatering Mac and cheese, delicious cabbage, yummy green beans, and mashed potatoes with brown gravy. We also got peach cobbler which was great and bread pudding was too salty and not good in my opinion. Oooohhhhh do not forget to try their sweet potato cornbread!! So amazing!
First visit. Ordered fried chicken and Salisbury steak, greens, mashed potatoes and the sweet potato cornbread.
The greens sang to me like none other. The cornbread stood on its own, no butter, no honey just fantastic. Chicken was good and moist.
The place is a destination.
The side portions were great. But I had the 3 meat I wanted meatloaf but the lady said it would have to be cut in half so I declined. I had chicken wings(2), catfish (1), neckbones(2),greens,corn and macaroni and cheese and cornbread.
Carrot cake for dessert.
It was overrated.
This food was good and hot. I love fresh chicken so they definitely come with it. Sides were good as well. I recommend this place if you are in the area
After hearing so much about this place I planned a lunch date to make it happen. My friend had fried chicken and smothered pork chops and I had the veggie plate. He loved his and I totally enjoyed my sides wish I could've had them all. And I can 😃 cause I will be going back. I would have given them 5 stars but not sit down service and bit pricey for a veggie plate. But the beautiful smiling ladies servicing us made up for the price
This is the 3rd time I visited this location. As was with the last two visits, the food was wonderful but so salty I could not eat the fried chicken or collard greens. Salt causes high blood pressure and as a minority customer we don't need excessive salt. I called and complained again to a manager. He told me they liked seasoned food, well I do too. But to much salt is simply, to much salt. Needless to say my feet were so swollen, I had pudding feet! You should read your reviews. There are quite a few about excessive salt....
If i said it once I'll say it again, its the best food in Kansas City
I have had two of the best take out orders from here! I loved both times, my only complaint is I need bigger pants when I eat there! The food is amazing and the service was exceptional. I would highly recommend this place for some of the best food out there.
This place is so good, I got the plate with 2 meats (fried catfish and lemon fish), 2 sides (Mac and cheese and greens), and bread (I got the cornbread). Everything was tasty but the greens were a little too salty for my liking, though they went well with the sweet cornbread. Super affordable too. The dining room was closed so my coworkers and I ate in the car in the parking lot lol but I'm glad we went! I would for sure come often if I lived around here. Almost fell asleep on the drive back!!!
