One of my readers reminded me “the only good Asian restaurant with Fu in their name is Mama Fu’s”. I had to laugh, it had been ages since last visiting this spot and he was indeed correct. A long time favorite in town, the only excuse for my absence is the distance. Craving Asian as I often do, and nothing on my calendar, I made the trek across town for a meal.
Last week I was invited to come try Mama Fu's Asian House in Mandarin. They are very conveniently located on San Jose near 295 and were pretty busy when we arrived, which is a great sign. We ordered our food at the counter and took a seat. We talked a little with the owner and found out that she recently did some renovations to the restaurant (she has owned Mama Fu's since January) to make it more modern. She has done a great job because they place is beautiful. I also love that you can see into the kitchen and watch them make your food. Everything is cooked fresh right there!
Fried Rice Extra Shrimp. Wonderful rice and quality shrimp
Tom Kha. Tasty...good food!

Good for takeout. If you're looking for fusion takeout, this is quite good. You order from a counter, this is not a restuarant with table service. While certainly better than fast food, don't bother to ask the name of the chef, he'll probably be a high school kid working from an instruction sheet.
I am currently on a strict budget but I will occasionally treat myself to a meal out. Recently, I went to Mama Fu's for dinner. I asked Mama Fu how much it would cost for a delicious dinner and a cold beverage. She said $15. I told her that $15 was too beaucoup. I asked which dinner items I could get for less than $10. She replied that for $10 I could have "every'ting you want!"
I'm asian and although it's not the "real" asian food its still delicious!!!!! I love this place.
Not bad. The food is decent but overpriced. A little like eating in a bus station.
I was pleasantly surprised.. My friend introduced me. I was quite surprised. The food is pretty fresh and comes to your table in real bowls, with large portions. Not bad at all.

The cauliflower fried rice was the jam! The people were nice and the had a steamed option with no sauce. I will definitely be back. Chinese food without the guilt of all the sugar if you choose.
Wow! The Brisket bowl is amazing! Bursting with flavor the brisket is so tender. The jalapeno give it just the right amount of kick. Wish i would have came here earlier. I. Am definitely bringing my whole family here next time we are in the mood for Asian cuisine. Almost forgot.... The passion fruit tea is phenomenal.
If you are looking for Asian Cuisine, but want a step up from typical Chinese take out restaurants, then give Mama Fu's a try. They have a nice menu that includes Chinese, Korean, Thai and Japanese dishes, all made to order. In addition to fried or steamed rice, you can also get brown rice or "Zoodles", which are zucchini noodles. My go to meal here is the Teriyaki chicken with either brown rice or zoodles. The portions are good and the service is typically good. I still think Pei Wei is better if I was going to compare, but Mama Fu's is still good regardless.
Great food, fair price. I usually get the Mongolian steak but went with Pho this time. The kids meals ate a great price and kids eat free on Sunday.
I come here all the time, I even bring my mom. WE LOVE this place, it’s always our go-to. :) Whenever there is an issue with the food, it is always solved. They have no problem remaking our food exactly the way we like it. Ira and Judith are exceptional and always greet us with smiles and a great experience. HIGHLY recommend this place.
First review after multiple visits. Yes, I'm definitely a fan of Mama Fu's. The menu at Mama Fu's features a collection of Asian dishes that we all know and love and every meal is made-to-order using fresh ingredients.
Good service and the food is always delicious! I've tried so many dishes which include:
- Mongolian Beef - my favorite
- Shrimp Pad Thai - another favorite
- Chicken Vietnamese Vermicelli
- Dynamite Shrimp Lettuce Wrap - nice appetizer
- Mongolian Chicken
- Thai Basil
- Shrimp Fried Rice - my son's favorite
- Ahi Tuna Salad - superb Asian dressing
Whenever my wife and I come here, we always have to get the Mongolian Beef and pick another dish to share mostly the Shrimp Pad Thai.
This places has gone through a few changes over the years. We stopped going for a while but have recently returned. They've brought some good items to the menu. For those health conscious peeps, the riced cauliflower dish has proven to be a good choice. Decent popular dishes for an Asian fusion selection.
Portion size was more than enough. Quality was good. Purchased the new Texas Brisket bowl. Received our order in a timely manner. My only complaint, they allowed a non-service dog come inside the restaurant and allowed the patron to sit down at a table while waiting on her to-go-order. January 17th update in response to Mama Fu's response. Unfortunate to see that they did not address the issue of the non-service dog being allowed inside the restaurant and to be at a table where patrons eat.
We have been going to this place on and off over the past 7 years and this place was our favorite top of the list place couple of years back. Over the past year, the quality went down and the food and service was going down.....
However, we had been there the last week and yesterday and the place and service definitely improved like night and day. So, I am back to strongly recommending this place ! I also registered for their Mamu Fu's app and was able to check in online. The management really paid attention to the detail and the food of was high quality and hot. So, good to see this neighborhood restaurant back and doing well again and look forward to being back and hope they keep it going well....
Ordered lo mein, substituted chicken for pork, and asked the young man to make it spicy. This lo mein, was superb. I can not stress that enough. I never write reviews but this restaurant blew me away. The food came out at a reasonable pace, was very warm, visibly fresh as well. I asked for a 3 on the 1-5 spicy scale and was beyond pleased with the amount given, I ditched my chopsticks and drank the broth straight from the bowl while sweat dripped from my brow. I also tried their veggie potstickers and their cheesecake wontons, they were great. The pot stickers were also served with an Asian slaw that was nothing less than heavenly. The manager asked how our meal was twice, and was a sweetheart. I honestly don't know what I was expecting, but such a delightful experience caught me completely off guard. Also their menu prices seem a bit inflated but are reasonable given the generous portions I received. Just wow, if you're on the fence about this place do yourself a favor and go.
