Review Elite Restaurant - Jackson

Stopped off here for a quick lunch and wasn’t disappointed. This is one of the older lunch establishments in the downtown Jackson area. There wasn’t a long wait to get a table and the hostess was friendly as she sat us. Our waitress was courteous and informed us of the specials and got our drink order. The food came out pretty fast and had really good flavor. The prices were about right considering the amount of food you received and all in all it was a good experience. Definitely try the rolls.

Enjoyed lunch with family today. I have been dining here since I was a small child, this was my husband (from Tennessee) & our son's first time to try it. We all ordered iced tea, it was fresh, brewed perfectly & our server was refilling our glasses in a timely manner. My husband ordered fried shrimp, my son got the cheeseburger, I ordered the chicken fried veal steak. All of us received the most perfectly fried french fries with our entrees. We also ordered an order of fried dill pickles. Hot & crispy. The best yeast rolls were served hot with butter. Their comeback dressing was delicious. The only complaint was from my husband. He wanted a bigger salad. No room for dessert w, we were stuffed. Thank you for giving us hot delicious Mississippi food & gracious service. Good to be back home.

Didn't start off well but ended satisfied. They didn't have any pie (their only dessert apart from ice cream...which is for the pie) at 7:30 on a Friday night of all times. They don't make sweet tea (at a restaurant in the south that makes fried fish, fried pickles, onion rings etc) AND they were out of meatballs for their spaghetti. Ugh. Luckily their fried catfish turned out to be quite good, as were their rolls and onion rings. German pot roast however, that could use an overhaul...taste like liver sauced with tomato sauce and vinegar, surely even Germans know there are better ways to prepare and season meat.

A small, quirky restaurant with an old school atmosphere. The warm rolls were served with real butter, the flaky fish was cooked perfect and the salad a perfect size. The dessert wasn't worth it and the hostess was kind enough to take it off the ticket.

The Elite may have been the “elite” restaurant in years past but that ship has sailed. Still worth a visit. Mostly booths, waitresses in white, water brought to your table in small glasses, and other amenities nostalgic. Wide variety of entrees from fish, shrimp, steaks, veal cutlets served quickly and tasty. Small dinner salad with house homemade comeback dressing is a treat. Prices are moderate. Two problems for a southerner are NO sweet tea and bread pudding served cold.

First time, eating here. Was not pleased one bit. The waitress was horrible, she came to the table after sitting there for over 5 minutes, did not ask if we would like something to drink, asked if we were ready to order. They were not busy at all. We told her we were not ready, she walked away from the table did not come back until about 15 minutes later. The other waitress finally realize we had nothing to drink and got it for us. Then the waitress then decided to come back,we were placing our order, telling her what we wanted, being rude at this point, because they did not have certain things, what we were asking for. The fish we order was okay, but the new potatoes they served with it came from a can. The top sirloin steak we order, was not a fine cut and they got the order wrong on how it was to be cooked. The hamburger steak was to small and not enough fries as the side. Our bill was over 67.00. The place smelled horrible, like mildew. Would not recommend this place to no one.

I've been going to the Elite since I was 10 years old (42 years). Our family would go for dinner on Friday nights growing up. Today I always get the same thing. Veal cutlet with white gravy. But I have had the enchiladas and they are awesome. They have the rolls market covered in downtown.

The best place to eat in Jackson! It's a special place and the rolls are baked in heaven and sent down to earth...as well as the sauce on the table, the veal, the enchiladas and the staff. My favorite! ❤️❤️❤️❤️

We enjoyed talking to the owner as much as we enjoyed the food! We will definitely be going back when we visit our daughter at Millsaps. I recommend the breaded veal cutlet with white gravy which the owner recommended to us! The dinner rolls are the best! Definitely ask the owner about the history of the place. They're so good that some patrons have been dining there for 45 years! That's a true testament to how great of a place this is!

My wife and I live in Maryland but have been coming here on visits home for more than 35 years. It holds special memories of course but the service and food have never disappointed us. The people are friendly, the food is great and the service excellent!!! The rolls are so extra special we even order takeouts for in town family events! Dining here is a reasonably priced experience but it's a real treat!!

The Elite Restaurant opened in 1947. Amazing to think about that. And our waitress/server Charlene has worked here for over 35 years, a very sweet woman. Not many places have survived for so long like The Elite. So much history has come through or passed by those front doors. The Veal cutlets with cream sauce were excellent as usual.

The best thing was the crackers with butter...The waitress was rude and it was so quiet you felt uncomfortable having a conversation. Everything comes with French fries; which tasted freezer burned. Can't recommend.

My parents took me to The Elite every year for my birthday when I was a kid. It was my favorite then and it still is. Veal Cutlets with white gravy are to die for and Elite rolls are exquisite!

Best place to eat in Jackson, everything there is good. Most of the staff has been there for years, therefore, the service is great!!!!

Great food. Been eating there since 1961. My favorite place to eat. Their Veal Cutlets are great and their salad dressing is to die for

Over priced, was served a 28.00 steak that was a breakfast steak and was tough and fat. My wife had Red Fish that was actually grouper. They were out of baked potato and Oysters. Extremely disappointed and will not return.
Susan McGee
The veal cutlets are absolutely scrumptious. Plus the rolls cannot be beat anywhere in town.

If I could leave no stars I would. Restaurant extremely run down, moldy, musty smell hits you right when you walk in. Overcame my gut feeling of wanting to leave, sat down, ordered fried chicken. Halfway through my meal, find a small cockroach dead, baked into a roll I was about to eat. Absolutely foul. Please do not eat here, and end up like me, sitting here wondering if I am about to deal with food poisoning all night. If a restaurant can't manage pest control, can they really be trusted with food safety? Likely not. Disgusting.

Haven’t eaten there in years but it was still good. Sad to see it wasn’t nearly as busy as it use to be.

Decided to try something a little different today and eat at the Elite on Capitol because i heard about these rolls they have there. Got in and stood at the front waiting on a hostess to tell me where to sit. Waited for a couple of ticks and a waitress asked me if I was dining for 1. I said yes. She took the menu as she approached a booth and dropped it on the table. Never said welcome. Never said I will be right back. And kept walking. I took a set and waited 7 minutes. No waitress. She stopped by the table and said, "I will be right with you". 8 ticks later, still no waitress. Another white couple came in and a single white male diner. The white couple had their order taken by the waitress along with drinks. I guess my disdain read on my face and I didnt know it. The white guy next to me looked and his waitress came over. He said "Wait. He was before me." The waitress looked over her shoulder and said, "he is not my station" and kept going. At that point, I got my money up and out of there. On my way out, the older hostess said, "Sir, I am coming to take your order." I didnt acknowledge and kept pressing.

Wonderful atmosphere and friendly staff. The rolls and dressing are out of this world.

A long-time favorite: trout, enchiladas, cutlets, steaks, and more. Do you know about the onion rings? Do yourself a favor and go eat here.

Great people! Great food! Was told to go here by a local. We will be stopping in every time we visit Jackson. The Elite dinner was so good! Thank you Elite!

Sadly, it's not what it use to be. Rolls were doughie. The comeback dressing has lost its zip. Times really have changed. I use to love this fine restaurant.
