Not the easiest spot to find as its hoisted atop a strip of tiny Indian stores but finding Phayul is well worth your while as it probably serves some of the best Tibetan food in the area. Phayul’s momos are amongst my favorite – try the beef ones with some of their spicy sauce drizzled on top.

Good aloo Momos B prepared fresh only when you order. They roll the dough, stuff the filling and then steam them while you wait. Good. Very good.
They are upstairs Opp Citibank. Busy and congested but worth waiting for.

Himalayan/Tibetan food at its finest. This is a small location located on the top floor of a clothing store in Jackson Heights. It was a cold day, and this place did not disappoint. I had the shogo khatsa (fried spicy potatoes) and Bhoe Thuk (chetsy noodle soup). It was literally one of the best meals I have ever tasted. I am sure everything on the menu is delicious

Phayul Restaurant  37-65 74th St., 2nd floor, (718) 424-1869.  L-D daily; $.  No reservations.  Located up a steep stairwell, past a beauty shop that does “Himalayan Eyebrow Threading,” this tiny Tibetan restaurant would be easily missed if you weren’t aware it is there.  There isn’t usually a wait for one of the few tables, and I like that they are by windows.  I was brought here by someone who raved about the momos, which are good and made even better with the addition of the house-made hot sauce available on the table, but it turns out that I thought the noodles were the prize dish.  I also liked the spicy fried potatoes and the mango lassi, though Tibetan butter tea was also an option.  We ordered all vegetarian, but many other meat-oriented dishes are also available.

My first trip to Jackson Heights ever. Special thanks for my NY friends for taking me to new interesting places to eat.

Phayul was our first stop. Hidden as it is located on the 2nd floor. I did not know what to expect but the menu looked interesting and I was hungry.

Beef Thenthuk ($6.99) was so tasty. But I have this weakness of chewy hand made noodles and spicy broth.

I still did not believe I would have enjoyed Tsak Sha Chu Rul ($3.99) which is a Tibetan Beef and Cheese soup. Maybe the sweetness of daikon and the spiciness of chili balanced out the "cheese'? It was something I would order again and eat that whole bowl by myself!

Vegetable Momo ($4.99) was ok. but Tibetan Butter Tea ($1) definitely not my cup of tea.

Love the family vibe of Phayul and higher recommend if you looking for some home style Tibetan food.

Entering from 37th Road, right around the corner from the busy 74th Street station in Jackson Heights, Phayul is a 2nd floor restaurant that is a simple room containing both kitchen and dining area. It is a very casual place, like a diner, only with different smells and decoration. It overlooks a busy corner and each table has a nice view of the action down on the street. The place is sparsely decorated, but you find your obligatory "Free Tibet" t-shirt and a photo of the Dalai Lama smiles down on patrons. Eventually while we were eating, the server tuned the television to Radio Tibet for even more atmosphere, something that the Tibetans eating before us apparently did not need. It's hard to eat this kind of food and not order momos ($4.99, below), so we did just that. The thak sha momo is a beef dumpling, and these are decent, but somehow seem like they have been around for a while. Our server gave us a sauce mixing lesson, combining the two hot sauces available and vinegar, to create

One of my go-to places when I'm in Jackson Heights! Restaurant is located up a stairwell but there is another location close by. Absolute must-gets include the steamed beef momos, radish soup, and the shapaley. Their momos are freshly steamed and are always so juicy and flavorful. The radish soup is unlike anything I've had before. It has a nice creamy consistency and contains a generous serving of beef and thinly sliced radish. Will be grateful if anyone can tell me what the "mountain herbs" in the menu refers to as I'd love to recreate this recipe. Shapaley are freshly fried (actually burnt my mouth so be careful!) and we opted for the potato filling. The crunchy exterior was a perfect contrast to the smooth potato filling. Will skip the laping next time - sauce tasted like diluted gochujang. Service is lacking and the restroom could probably do with some repair, but will happily overlook these for the food! :)

Momo are super delicious & juicy. Tried Pan Fried Momo, Fried Momo & Chicken Chili. Hot Sauce is super spicy & goes well with Momo. Definitely worth a visit.

Nice Tibetan restaurant in Jackson Heights district NY. Area is really nice and close to 74th Street subway. Cuisine in the area is mostly Latino and Asian...back to Phayul, so the menu is quite varied. Started with the Momos (steamed dumplings)which is what Phayul is noted for and also ordered the barley soup with beef. Bokchoi and Lhasa fried noodles was also a hit! Food comes out quick and all at once so if u would like to pace yourself in order to savor and experience each item then you need to let them know while ordering. Good to visit ...Good food!

So good it almost feels it should be kept a secret. Get the spicy potatoes and the momos (and everything else, to be frank) Could easily call this my favorite NYC dining experience.

The place itself is relatively small. But the food is good. The portion size of the Pan fried Momos are good for one person or max 2.

Great food. Highly recommend the spicy beef tongue, it hits in all the right places and had the perfect texture. The fried beef and chicken momos are great, the thick shell is my favorite part — just be sure to let it cool or you’ll burn your tongue! The chicken lollipops are fall of the bone tender and always a crowd pleaser. The service is hit or miss, depending on who’s working there but the food is worth it.

Everything was delicious, and the food didn’t take long to come, even when the place was bustling. I would say that my favorite dish was the potatoes momo. PS: The front store photos are not updated. This restaurant is now on a second floor. Look up and follow the signs they placed to guide you.
