Review Wahoo's Bar And Grill - Islamorada

Michael McDaniel
Great food with beautiful ocean views. Wasn’t too busy and food was fast and delicious. We went for the whole fried snapper with was excellent and well prepared. Well worth the $44 MP. Bottle beer could have been a little colder or served with a cold glass.

Wahoo's is a restaurant on the water in Islamorada. It has great views of the water from the outside dining area. The food is also good! My wife and I split a delmonico steak. The meal was more than sufficient for the two of us. The green beans were excellent. They were crunchy and had very good flavor. We had ordered the steak medium but it fell into the category of well done when it arrived. The flavor was still excellent but it would have been more tender with less time on the grill. Our other dining companion had shrimp with rice and beans. It was excellent. The shrimp were fresh, cooked to perfection and the rice was moist. Overall, this was a good dining experience in a delightful atmosphere.

There was plenty of outdoor and covered seating with beautiful views. Not the best sunset views in the area if that’s what you want. The drinks were ok, seemingly priced comparably to nearby places. I had a tasty blackened fish sandwich that came with a large pile of fries. The wait staff were pleasant and made sure we had a good experience.

This was by far my favorite place during our wedding vacation. We sat outside and the breeze made it feel amazing. The atmosphere is casual and fun. They have a great menu, the food and portions were great! I recommend the conch fritters, and I had the Cajun chicken pasta. We ordered more items of course and it was all delicious. The margaritas were so good. Really great place!

We asked the receptionist for a table close to the deck border but she denied saying that it was getting wet. Next customer was seated exactly where we asked. The food is good but most of it was just warm, almost cool. With the windy day it got cold very fast.

Great food! We tried the fried mahi appetizer and it was delicious. So were both the soups! Our server was very sweet and helpful as well with her suggestions! We came in Sunday at 5 and sat right away at the outdoor bar. Great views, great service, great food

In the Keys from Pa. Came to Wahoo’s because of the reviews. They were true! Eddy was excellent at his job. A true pro who made our dinner that much better. The food was outstanding and the shrimp and crab soup incredible. Beautiful views on top of it on their upstairs deck. An absolute 10 for us! Great job and ask for Eddy if you want the best.

The best part of this restaurant is the view! We sat next to the angler boats and it was a nice experience. High quality fresh catch and local fish made with delicious sauce, with sautéd vegetables like spinach & mushrooms.

Very casual dining at the bar. This location is a great entry bar location on Keys trips. Great drink options and food selection. Afterward, visit the marina to see what the local boats brought in. Lots of great opportunities for fish and charter pictures.

Wahoo nachos were pretty good. Corn salsa is super good! Avocado salsa was good as well. Kitchen could read tickets a little better. Wahoo blt looked a lot like a dolphin blt but whatever....when in Rome right 😁 overall food was good, server was a nice guy 👍

What you need to understand about eating out in the keys is that the majority of the restaurants all have the exact same menu. They all serve the requisite fried shrimp, fish tacos, etc. this place did have one of the better key lime pies and my son insists these were the best fish tacos he has had the whole time, and he has had them at at least four different places this week. The shrimp po-boy was average. So for food I give it pretty good marks. It is open air but protected from the wind which was nice. The bar has a good view of the marina and is quite pleasant. On the down side, the bar tender was more focused at fussing at one of the other bartenders and dropping the f-bomb ever ten seconds than he was on serving anybody. I really did not come all this way to have to listen to bartenders gripe at each other.

Overpriced and overrated. The food priced at fine dining level but the quality is at fast food joint. Oversalted and tasteless. Sticky table and greasy spoon place.

FANTASTIC!!!! Everything was fresh, hot and delicious. The views were incredible. The staff very helpful, prompt and friendly. We will be back :)

I like it mostly for the views, the cracked conch, grouper sandwhich and crab chowder were great! The mussels not so much they weren't that fresh and were in a watered down buttet broth. Would come back but no mussels here!
Joe
Wow, what a disappointment. Been going here for years but last time for us. Weakest drinks in the keys. Overpriced for food quality. Service was slow on a slow night too.
Luis Molina
Service was good but the food wasn't. Oysters were tiny and skinny. We ordered a paella and the rice was not fully cooked. We did not enjoy the food although the view was nice.

Excellent waiter service on Christmas Day! Fresh fish!

Wahoo's worst food, drinks, and service!. Stay awAy! The service was terrible, the crab legs were the worst ever! I ordered a frozen strawberry daqurie and it was awful. The view was pretty.

Best Key Lime Pie in the Keys. Visited the Keys for the first time last week. Tried pie at several places over the weekend and Wahoo's was by far the best! Also loved the lunch we had there. Hope to be back someday!

Terrible bar service, 20 minute wait for a drink , warm beer

After reading reviews I took a chance. I was rather disappointed with the food. I had the fish sandwhich and was not impressed with how it was prepared. The shrimp and friend oysters were good, however for the price you pay the portion was small. Way over priced.

We (two couples) had heard good reviews of Wahoos from family that live in the area. We were surprisingly disappointed. We sat outside on the long, narrow deck. Although the view was beautiful, it seemed as if there was only one server for a very large area. Although she tried her best, sadly the service suffered. Our food was not very good, and the drinks were not very good either. For the sub-par food, it was too expensive. I guess you pay for the view... Because we certainly did not see many other positive features to the restaurant.

Price is rather high. Service at the bar yesterday 4:00 was the worse. Don't go there at shift change or what ever that was. Burger was ordered med rare, came out almost hour later raw. Bartender said they would re do, we ask for it to go. When we got home we found the same burger boxed up not cooked. Tourist trap and the employees seem to be anoyed if you should need something or even want to order

A bad ending to a fantastic trip in The Keys. Wahoos service was terrible & the food was even more terrible. This is an semi-expensive place on the water. I should've known this place would've
been bad by the filthiness of the rundown restroom. My daughter's chicken fingers were fried to a crisp, my seafood bucket was full of the most non-fresh, very frozen & vile tasting seafood, literally the worst seafood I have ever eaten. This place is ON THE WATER in The Keys!? My husband had the "Special" Mahi sandwich that was soggy wet with the strangest combo I've ever tasted on a fish sandwich...yuck! Our appetizer, the fried pickles, tasted fishy & the sauce also had a strange taste. Overall meal & experience on a scale of 1-10 was a zero. Thank God the rest of the trip was amazing cause this meal was one we'd like to forget. Keep driving, don't waste your money, appetite or time.

Get the bucket of bait!! So good.

Great spot. Yummy burger, sliders for the kiddos. The Mahdi tacos are really good. Super nice view and spot for cocktail. I didn't like the Bloody Mary. Their is super sweet . Pass

Where's the Hoo'?. We had a nice dinner and the service was fine. Prices are a bit upper edge, but still ok for the food received. I was disappointed with the fact they did not have wahoo on the menu. What gives? I wish I had saved room for the key lime pie - it is HUGE (maybe 3 inches thick?) and looks really good. Next time ...

Shrimp and crab bisque is amazing, blackened mahi sandwich not bad, but not the best I've had down here. Blackened mahi tacos were okay too. Best part of Wahoos is the view and the breeze!

The view is great! Surprisingly, much of their fish is frozen. I can't really understand why. We had a great server who was honest and told us to stick with the snapper if we wanted fresh fish. We had the conch fritters which were very, very good. My husband had the special which included some meat that was out of this world good! The key lime pie is made in house and is worth going there just for that.

Went here on a Sunday night around 7:30. The place was not busy at all. I ordered at cup of shrimp and crab bisque and to my surprise it was not crab in the soup but Surimi. Imitation crab made from processed whitefish. And this place calls themselves a seafood restaurant ???? They should be ashamed of themselves.....
Traveling Man
Lobster Bisque is awesome and MUST get the Cajun pasta bowl (spicy) two thumbs up !
Laura Gilliam Decker
Fresh seafood perfectly prepared, timely service, right on the water. Delicious!
Sara
Try the lobster crepes they rock. Also have a great happy hour which includes $4.00 peel & eat shrimp for 1/2 lb!

Food was good. Fish dip was assume. Tuna burger was big and fresh. Fish tacos good as well! Nice view of the kite surfers in the ocean. Two thumbs up.

The food was mediocre. We were not impressed. The service was also not great. Our waitress hardly said two words to us.
Michelle
Great food! The grouper was awesome. The shrimp were big and fresh. The view is a nice addition.

This should be #1 on URBANSPOON.COM KW. Ok, I would have never in a million years thought of eating at a Bar and Grill in the Keys. I'm after seafood restaurants.. So we were going to Whale Harbour all you can eat seafood restaurant and they had just closed for the night. We were so sad, had driven so far just for that place, the guy tells us to go upsatirs to the bar and grill that they have really good food.. So glad we did! lOBSTER/ SHRIMP BISQUE IS TO DIE FOR! i WILL DRIVE 10 HRS JUST TO HAVE SOME ANY DAY! I also had the blue corn fish tacos , grilled mahi mahi, with spicy slaw, and mandarin ornages! This is what I'm talking about, these are the creative dishes I am always hunting for to be wowed and amazed, and I finally got it. I can say this is more gourmet than 90% of the frufru upscale MIAMI restaurants I've watsed time $$$ and appetite on. THIS IS A MUST !! Oh the Bahamian cracked conch is also excellent! And the price is sooo affordable, and the view spectacular. No complaints froma party of 5! Service was excellent as well!!!!

Should of kept that awesome chef. The food and style has changed

Fresh!. Doesn't get any fresher!

Located right on the ocean and sits in a little fishing harbor. The grilled mahi sandwich was one of the best I've ever had.

Can't wait for my next trip down to the Keys to stop in!
Devin
If you leave this place hungry, its your own damn fault. Great food and something for everyone. They feed you till you say stop!

Great Food, awesome view. I agree with some about the price which is in the higher end, but the food is absolutely to die for. Yea, the portions could be a bit larger, but its "The Keys" everything is expensive. The place is crowded because the food and the view is what brings people in. The kiteboarders added beautiful colors to the alrerady gorgeous view. I would go back :)
Yvette
Great view. Worth the view on a nice day. Had the tuna sandwich rare last year, quite all right and came rare. Had the conch sandwich this year. As it is fried bits of conch a bit difficult to eat, but tasty enough. A bit pricey, but not outrageously so. This is the Keys and location is everything.
Service has been good and friendly for me (both times), but I'm not in a hurry when I'm down that way.
Great location to take a picture of the marina (always some pelicans to add focal interest) and send it to your friends phones up in the snow. ;)

ARGH. Foolishly ME! I thought I would give this place another chance on our way down the Keys to Key West.....DRECK, DUMP and Horrible Food....GREAT VIEW...Have a drink and forget the food!

Avoid this Restuarant. Ok we walked in and the sign said wait for hostess, but that didnt happen, we just sat down at a table. I ordered an ahi tuna sandwich raw, she said she would put in extra rare....ok The sandwich came back well done with a horrible salty stuff on the outside that looked burned. I couldnt eat it...the waitress returned and took the poor dish back...the next one was without that terrible salty blackend stuff that only a person suffering from salt tolerance could want. I dont know why cooks use salt in anything except desserts maybe. The tomato on the grocery bought bun was overripe to the point of falling apart....needless to say, I wont be back. PS the price you pay you could have a nice meal in Manhattan.

Great foo. Loved the food and service, great views and a awesome manager clay

TOURIST TRAP. Being here on Father's Day weekend was clearly the wrong choice. The parking lot was filled with drivers that were ready to get in an accident with you, rather than allow you to park. Going upstairs to the restaurant we were seated outside in an overcrowded area where we smelled nothing but cigarettes and smoke and loud annoying people talking. **HINT: They have an area at this restaurant for the locals, which is on the further SOUTH bar area, and that is where you WANT to be seated, not in the tourist area!** My parents gave me that hint that last time we were in the Keys! The waitress was extremely un-attentive, and the portions of food here were literally a joke. This place should be re-named "Wahoo's TAPAS Bar & Grill". You are looking at $10.00 for a plate of roughly 4 chunks of "cracked conch" here. The prices are outrageous, and I've had better cracked conch at other restaurants in the area, so I was extremely disappointed, being this was the first time I was eating at this restaurant. Once again this is another one of those restaurants where you are paying for nothing more than the view and where you are sitting. It is a tourist trap, scratch this one off of your "to-eat" list.
Christine
Dried yellowtail was out of this world. It is presented as a whole fish with a cup of black beans in the center. Service rocked. Kids shrimp basket skimpy on shrimp. Fries were fantastic though. Atmosphere is beautiful. Right on the water with a view of the marina.
Kristen Richards
Great view! The fish tacos were great as well! I would go back!

First off, ask for Dawn! She was VERY friendly & attentive. I had the fish tacos & really liked them (different with the hard shell vs soft shell). The burger was thick & juicy, with lots of flavor! Even when in the Keys, you just need a good burger some times.
Jessica
The food is really good, in particular the Fish Tacos, Plantanes, Black Beans & the Spicy Shrimp starter. It also has a great view.
