I really like Charlie's BBQ. They have comparable/reasonable prices in line with what you usually find in the tunnels, if not a little less expensive depending on what you get, and the food is fresh and good quality.
There are also a lot of options. Although it has BBQ in the name, they also have a large salad bar, cheesesteak, hamburgers, and fried catfish.
I find the staff to be pretty friendly and helpful, and they do a good job of managing individual orders as well as large catering orders. I never felt like it took longer to get my food because of a catering order (which happens at some downtown places.)
Additionally, this has nothing to do with the restaurant specifically, but the eating area nearby with tables and chairs is usually not busy because most people get their food and go back to the office, so it's nice and quiet and has a lot of natural light coming into it from the opening above. It's great.
The food not only looked tasty, but it was delicious. Also, the portion was worth the price.
My favorite downtown lunch spot! Today I have a small mixed salad, with everything I like cut just right, topped with a delicious homemade cilantro ranch dressing, and a generous cup of chicken tortilla soup. All for less than $10!
I had a Sliced Brisket Sandwich. With BBQ Sauce and Pickles and Jalapeños. Also some Seasoned Fries. It was delicious with flavor. I will definitely go back to this place. The employees are very friendly. A satisfied customer. 😊👍
I've been coming here for lunch and breakfast on and off for five years. The quality of the food and service have been consistent throughout that time. It may not compare to some of the other BBQ in town, but considering this is a small shop in the tunnels downtown they provide amazing value to their customers.
Guilty pleasure. I get a massively unhealthy bacon, fried egg and cheese sandwich from here once a week or so. It's the closest thing I can find to the now defunct Pete's Pancakes.
But to the point they make excellent breakfasts here which is a nice find in the Houston tunnels. They also have decent BBQ and their salad bar is restocked fresh daily.
I get breakfast here every morning, it's the best breakfast spot in the central tunnels area. Hot, fresh, and delicious every day, and the staff know me and my order and always get me through the line quickly regardless of whether there are other people in line. This place is a gem.

This place is absolutely amazing! Had the two meat plate with brisket and chicken. It tasted delicious with white bread, rice, and Mac & cheese. All that together was only $12.99. The staff is friendly too, that’s an added plus.
Best BBQ in the immediate downtown area. You have the choice to get a salad at their salad bar or BBQ which their choice of meats are great. Customer service has been great every time i have visited. This place is in the tunnels so its only open during breakfast and lunch and closed on the weekends.
