Great sushi but expect a wait
The restaurant was packed and noisy when we visited. The food was excellent and so was the service. Since one of us is on a low salt diet, the wait staff was extremely helpful in making sure our needs were met.
Go to this place time after time and loved it! Delicious food and great service at very affordable prices. Incredible value for money, with amazing lunch and happy hour specials. Highly recommended!@
4 stars.
Sashimi plate! Chefs choice. Got to have this more often.
I have actually been here before. The food was incredible then. They were able to repeat the performance.
Love it.
The aptly named Oishii (Japanese for ‘delicious’) is easy to miss as you’re making your way along Richmond even when you’re moving at snail’s pace at 5:47 p.m. during rush hour. Its faded sign is reminiscent of bad 1990's pop art and the establishment shares space with a cleaners and convenience store whose garish posters advertising 2-for-$2.22 Snapple drinks are more likely to grab your attention. If, however, you knew what Oishii holds for the lover of thick spherical slices of steamed rice, fish, avocado, wasabi, and even sometimes cream cheese and lobster, i.e., perversely inauthentic, finger-licking-good sushi, your gaze would shift immediately.
This place has the BEST sushi happy hour in town!!! Amazing food and quick service. Parking is a little tight, but it's absolutely worth trying to find a parking spot.
All about the Happy hour here. Super crowded so it must be good, right. Well it's cheap but decent sushi - in my book that's good. Beers for $2, appetizers buy 1 get 1 free - sweet. And those apps are priced at $4. Wow. It's very casual inside and can get loud depending on how many sakes or sake bombs are being ordered, but if your in or near the area, I'd say stop by. You won't spend much and you'll leave satisfied.
My favorite sushi place in Upper Kirby area. They have EXCELLENT lunch specials and one of the best sushi happy hours in Houston. There is always a line which just shows you how fresh the fish is and how great the prices are! Recommend all of the rolls and the drink specials at happy hour! Parking is tight
I was really impressed with Oishii's service, quality of food, and prices. I would recommend eating here during their lunch specials which is 11-3 on weekdays and 12-3 on Saturday, we ended up getting 6 rolls for around $25 which is a fantastic deal! The sushi is of the highest quality - you will not leave dissatisfied!
Excellent value, good food, good service. Energetic. The happy hour menu was very nice, lots of selection, great price on beer and wine, you can't beat this.
One of the best sushi spots in Houston. Their sushi is always fresh and it is fairly inexpensive compared to other places. The place is always packed, so show up early.
Great food for an affordable price. Had to wait about 15 minutes to get a table as the restaurant gets very busy. Service could have been better. Definitely recommend this place for Sushi. People who look for cooked or fried options in sushi definitely go for the “Sumo Maki”. It was the best item we tried.
This place is HANDS DOWN the BEST sushi place in Texas, I’ll put my money on it. The quality of the sushi is noticeably better than any sushi restaurant you’ll go to. We honestly only go to Oishii now for sushi but every now and then we will go to another sushi spot and can now taste the quality difference, Oishii is top notch. Oishii is about 45 mins away from where we live but we always gladly make the drive, and yes there can be a wait if you don’t have a reservation but hey we GLADLY WILL WAIT. It’s just that damn good. Also, although we are regulars, I know we don’t come in as often as most, maybe once a month last year and maybe a hand full of times this year (we would go more often again if we could) but the staff here always remembers us and knows what sake we always get etc. the owner even remembers us. The whole crew is extremely friendly and personable. I don’t think I’ve ever had a better experience at any other restaurant in my life.
Oishi means yummy/delicious in Japanese. They have wide range of choices, also happy hour provides decent option too. The food came out quickly, the restaurant was crowded around 2ish pm but still manage to get a table for two. I ordered Caterpillar and Hamachi hand roll, I dont like sushi rice from here, everything else was fine. Miso soup was tasty and I do like it was not salty at all. The price is reasonable.
Great affordable sushi restaurant that offers a diner feel. We came just before happy hour ended and took advantage of it. The deal was buy one get one for free for some appetizers. We ordered egg rolls, fried squid, and salmon roll and tuna roll. The rolls from appetizer section was not our favorite. But oiishi rolls were delicious, the hand roll was also fantastic. Also enjoyed their potato croquette immensely! The Joseph roll was lacking flavors though. Unbeatable price for the food we got! The parking can be tricky but there’s a parking lot next to the restaurant which we missed the first time. Be ware the wait too, as there’s usually a wait of ~20 mins at least and they don’t take reservations. Good service and we enjoyed the bustling diner vibe.
We love to come here during happy hour. Sushi is fresh and at a good price. We enjoyed the iced green tea, eel roll, spicy salmon and spicy tuna roll. We've also tried one of their sashimi/roll specials that was also very good. Definitely one of my favorite sushi places in Houston.
Parking is my only issue with this place as it is very limited and you have to be careful while backing out of the parking lot.
Absolutely fantastic! Stopped by and got the #10 (see pic for menu) which included 9 assorted pieces of sushi and a cup of soup for $10.95. Sushi was delicious, service was great think I had my drink refilled like four times, and prices in 2023 are unbeatable. My favorite place for Sushi in Houston so far and would highly recommend trying.
Our new go to sushi spot. Oishii is great!! Fresh sushi at a great price. Highly recommend trying it out. The only downside is the limited tables & wait. I recommend going as soon as they open to avoid a long wait.
Oishii is a solid Houston staple for Japanese fare at a great price.
Their entrees come with large portion sizes. I’d recommend trying their affordable specials e.g., we ordered the Special A: 2 piece Salmon, 2 piece Tuna, 2 piece Escolar, and a Crunch Roll with Miso Soup for only $12.95.
Note: Oishii is extremely popular and the wait times can be long (30-45 minutes).
One of my favorite restaurants in the world. Food is so excellent, the prices are even better. The staff are incredibly friendly and the place is always busy. I cannot say enough good things about oishii. They have maintained many staff members for the 10+ years I’ve been going and they make my day everytime I go. I cannot recommend oishii enough.
I have eaten a lot of sushi all over the country snd this restaurant puts out some spectacular food.
High quality, super fresh and great portions.
Their happy hour specials are ridiculously impressive, so much that there is usually a 1/2 hour wait. So get there early
This is not a high-end looking restaurant but who cares with the deliciousness they serve.
Highly recommend
