Excellent food, great atmosphere and great wine. All the food we had was great and the portions perfect...not to much nor to little. My favorite....the German Chocolate Cake Ice Cream Sunday! It was awesome and I wanted more but it was the right amount. A great place for a dinner date on its own or before/after trip to Museum. I highly recommend Bistro Menil and will eat there again next time we are back in Houston.
Goat cheese appetizer and Valentine Rose wine a fabulous pairing whilst sitting on the patio. A Devine experience
Really nice atmosphere and service. Although we had to wait for a good five minutes to be seated. We went there for Afternoon Tea, and to be honest, I expected better food and pastries. I loved the fact that there was a lot of variety and you could taste a decent number of different finger foods and pastries, but I think the quality should have been better for the price. Overall, interesting experience, but for me not worth a second try.
Every single thing we tried is delicious, amazing quality and freshly made.. The fried calamari, the eggplant fries, the watermelon cucumber salad & the Amalfi pizza are highly recommended. For dessert, the Tuscan Almond torte was a perfect balance between sweet & citrus.. Allan, our server, was very friendly, and every single thing he recommended was on point. We are definitely coming back! :)
A group of 4 of us visited here as part of a 20 year college reunion. What a delightful treat. We started off with champagne, then a beautiful 3 tiered platter came out with finger sandwiches, crab cakes, crème brûlées, lemon tarts, raspberry cakes. Then we each got our own pot of tea! It was such a fun highlight of our trip. My favorite finger sandwich was the little BLTs. The crab cakes were small and cute and delicious. My favorite dessert was definitely the lemon tarts. This experience was so worth the price!
I went for brunch today and enjoyed my experience more than the first time I visited. The food was great and so was the ambiance. I especially recommend the Avocado Toast with Lox. Also recommend their Blood orange Mimosa and Irish Coffee. Will definitely visit again.
The food was just amazing! Flavorful and with stunning presentation; great attention to details. The server was very courteous and appropriate, giving us enough time between courses without rushing us. The atmosphere was a little too crowded but not impossible to bear.
The price was high for a single course and a shared appetizer and dessert. To be realistic, it should be advertised as five $ signs ($$$$$).
Overall, it was very good, but be ready for a large check.
Relaxed & fancy. You can visit museum and end with lunch here. Then go for a walk at gardens around…Make reservations ahead… specially on weekends. They speak spanish and have parking lot!
Great food and service! We were a party of three for tea service (we added the third person the day of which they kindly accommodated). The portions were ample. The offerings were classic and well made. The tea selection super varied and well brewed! (Each person gets their own pot!) Our waiter was very kind and even brought out a candle for my dessert since it was my birthday!
Definitely will be back!
One of my favorite brunch spots! Great ambiance, great service, great location, and most importantly fantastic food! Take a tour of the Menil museum then follow up with brunch - it's a blast for a date or to bring the family.
Lovely, lovely spot. Easy to access from the museum parking lot. Set in a separate building from the collection. As expected, the place feels very well designed and artsy. The beautiful food matches the setting, and is also very good and creative. We enjoyed a duck salad, excellent ratatouille, and exceptional grain/vegetable bowl. Dining spaces include two rooms, a fenced patio, and an entry patio. Table service.
Bistro Menil describes themselves as "European-inspired, American fare paired with craft beer, cask wine, and thoughtfully selected wines by the glass or bottle". This is exactly what I encountered when dining at Bistro Menil and wholeheartedly recommend you dine here. Greg Martin, chef and proprietor, is actively engaged in the day to day operations with him constantly making rounds asking diners about their experience during my visit. His enthusiasm is reflected in the service and quality of food.
I visited during Houston restaurant week and was able to try multiple items on their tasting menu. The octopus was perfectly seasoned and very reminiscent of octopus I enjoyed in Spain. The crab cakes were phenomenal with a perfect consistency. What Chef Greg seemed most proud of was his 12 hour short rib to which I can attest was phenomenal. It was tender, juicy, and complimented perfectly by the port wine and shallot reduction. Finally, the lemon tart and basque cheesecake were a delightful ending to an incredible meal.
I would also like to note the mixed vermouths on ice that have a very unique herbal combination that I have not found anywhere else.
In closing, I cannot recommend Bistro Menil enough. Chef Greg Martin's passion is evident and contagious. Bistro Menil is a credit to the Houston food scene and definitely worth your time.
