Tortugas Pizza

I would give a 3.5, if that were an option. I finally tried their deep dish pizza after giving in since I have not been back to my hometown to get one from a childhood spot I love. I ordered the traditional with 1 additional item added, unfortunately, I just didn't like my deep dish too much. It just tasted too bland for me (especially, the sauce and dough) and the chicken was a little too tough for my liking. The cheese galic bread with jalapenos I ordered was pretty good though. I just can't see myself ordering another deep dish or other type of pizza mainly because I didn't like the sauce and dough. I really wanted to like it, but my taste buds said otherwise. I also want to recognize the customer service. The lady at the register was very nice and the whole vibe inside seemed very relaxed, open, and friendly. Although I probably won't go back, they are definitely worth trying out and seem to be very popular.

My family and I love going here. We have never had a bad experience. When you go you already have the expectation that you will wait on your food, it's Chicago style pizza. The food you receive will be excellent. Our waitress was a 10 out of 10, the food was a 10 out of 10. The prices are a 10 out of 10. I highly recommend Tortugas Pizza.

Tortugas is easily the best pizza in town, and has been for over 10 years. The Chicago style pizza is the best you'll ever have, and the thin crust is perfection too. You can't go wrong with anything on their menu. The owners are the sweetest, kindest people on the earth, and you can tell they truly care about giving us high quality food. We've been coming to Tortugas for over a decade, and it's even more delicious now than ever. If you want the best pizza you'll ever have in your life, go check them out. You will not be disappointed.

Amazing as always. My family has been coming here for years. My wife is from Chicago and she ALWAYS says it feels like home. Not a single bad experience here ever. Staff is incredible. Mallory played with our 18 month old daughter and made sure she had a great time. It's truly a wonderful experience every time we get a chance to stop in. Best staff we've ever had the pleasure to meet. Every time.

I'm giving this place three stars and this is for the Hoover location only. First let me say I love the food here! This is the only place where I can get anything close to Chicago Style pizza in Birmingham. I no longer live in Birmingham but my parents do and I come to visit 3-4 times per year. Every time, they ask me to go to Tortugas to pick them up a deep dish pizza. This time was no different. The last two times I was in Birmingham, I went by Tortugas during the business hours they had posted online, only to find out they closed early. On a Saturday night now. This was the second time I had experienced this so I wasn't going to let it happen again. On Friday evening (June 17) I called this location and specifically asked them what time they were closing the next day (Saturday). The lady on the phone told me 8pm but if I wanted deep dish I would need to get my order in by 7 for pick up. So I actually called them an hour earlier at 6:03pm only to receive a recording saying they were closed for the evening. I mean, other than nursing home cafeterias, what restaurant closes at 6pm on a Saturday evening? I was especially upset because they assured me just 24 hours earlier that they were closing at 8pm. To avoid disappointing my parents I had to drive to the downtown location instead. Thankfully this location honored the business hours they had posted. To close, this business has excellent food but if they continue to have staffing challenges or whatever, they should look into revising their hours and get on the same page with their staff regarding their hours. This is the third time this has happened in the past 9 months. I can no longer rely on this location to honor their hours posted so I won't be going here any longer.
