Quick summary: - Good ice cream - Friendly staff, extremely helpful. They were able to explain the toppings, ranging from Tabasco to bacon salt to shoyu. - You can get "normal" flavors and the more exotic combinations of ice cream and toppings Summary: 8 1/2 Desserts is difficult to see from the street. There is no large, visible sign. If you can find it, it's worth it. Every flavor we tried was great. We settled on mango shoyu, mint chocolate chip, green tea, and white peach with Tabasco.

Awesome. Cute. Quaint. Charming. Decided to bring my cousins from Vegas to get ice cream after our hike and we got directed here. I haven't tried here as well but reviews were high so yup, easy decision to try this place and BEST decision. Walked in and the girl behind the counter was just the nicest! We sampled the mango shoyu ice cream first as she suggested it as the most popular flavor and damn, that thing is good. We enjoyed sampling very unique flavors and combinations. If you have a chance, visit here.

A cute little hole in the wall. So many different flavors, it's hard to choose most of the time simply because they're all amazing. The white peach sorbet is one of my favorites. I would buy it but the truck full if they offered it. 10/10, definitely go here!

This place is awesome. I decided to try this place out after my aunt raved about this place. I never come out towards town, much less Kaimuki but on an off chance we were in the neighborhood so we stopped. I’m so glad we did. This shop is so tiny, but if you get here I suggest you wait. As it was our first time here, they let us try everything. Every single flavor and then the crazy combinations with some of those flavors. I ended up getting the mango with shoyu and the white peach. My husband got pineapple with a little li hing. My girlfriend got the blueberry velvet (or something like that). Everything was so good. That day, they had a special BOGO ice cream cookie sandwich. At first, I was like “Nah. That’s too much ice cream” but after finishing my 2 scoops I knew I needed more for another time. The staff there is super friendly and helpful. The shop seemed neat and clean and they offered outside seating to enjoy your ice cream. I can’t wait to go back there to see what other flavor creations they come up with!!!

Small shop that caters well to the customers. We went on our first visit and they offered a taste of almost all the flavors. Different flavors that you have to try. They also make ice cream pies, not cheap. I like the Watermelon pie. Looks like Watermelon and tastes like it too. Parking might be an issue so be patient.

Party of 10 looking for a sweet treat in the evening, and 8 half desserts did not disappoint! The young men at the storefront were extremely nice and helpful! We all had samples of everything, and each one was delicious! Happy to support this family business.

As soon as we walked in, they asked if it was our first time, and because it was, they let my husband and me sample the different flavors of ice cream. The 2 girls there were very helpful and kind. I went with a cinnamon toast crunch ice cream (with cereal in it!) In an almond cookie and my husband got PB and Banana Cream. If you're on oahu, it's definitely worth the stop!

This place has a great selection of interesting and delicious flavors like shoyu mango. The staff is very friendly and eager to help you sample all the flavors. The room is a bit tiny, so you may need to wait outside if there is another party ahead of you.

8 1/2 Deserts is a DEFINITE need to try place! If I could give more stars, i would. First of all, the customer service is AWESOME! They greet you very well when you enter. They offer you samples which already is a PLUS. Enough already! I cannot continue with my review... Just go and see for yourself! But, at least try the mango sorbet with shoyu... just saying!

THIS PLACE IS AMAZING! The flavors are wonderfully delicious and creative! This is a must do Hawaii experience! Side note: I have dairy and gluten allergies and did not get sick at all! He has several options for us allergy folks!
