Went for a 7pm reservation, the service was amazing and the waitresses were very attentive but not overbearingly so. The atmosphere is very cozy and inviting. The food was delicious and I would recommend it to anyone looking for good sushi and Japanese cuisine. There also are bathrooms if you’re too shy to ask, they are to the left through the curtains and they have bidets 🫡.
I live in a landlocked state. And I thought I've had pretty good sushi. But this place is as authentic as you can get without traveling to the country of Japan itself.
Generous cuts of fish. All super fresh, and an aesthetic that is old world Japan.
You don't mind sushi being served in a more traditional way, this restaurant is for you.
Highly recommended.
This place made me feel like I was back in Japan! The sushi bar and set menu were perfect, with plenty of options for everyone, and everything was prepared to perfection. Highly recommended, and we will deifntely be back. Thank you!
I arrived yesterday evening but I tried to search where the place was near me and still open. I found this restaurant and read the review, it seemed pretty good one. The food was very good and fresh sushi. Service was very good too! even they placed the wrong order, I didn’t mind and they were very polite and very nice. Highly recommended!!
Wow! Let the girls know its your birthday. Free dessert, dance and song. What a nice surprise. The unagi bento was fatty and chewy. The sauce is the star of the show. Sushi zen was meh but the seafood tempura set made up for it. Yes, coming again for birthday.
The food was absolutely delicious! It was pricey but as others have said, the food is authentic, customer service excellent, and worth the money. If you are looking for a quaint little corner restaurant that serves traditional, high quality Japanese food, Yohei is the place!
Such a charming restaurant! It’s very authentic and reasonably priced with good service. We went twice and both times we saw most people order their complete/set meals. We opted for nigiri sushi, appetizers and side dishes. We really liked their nigiri sushi as the fish was fresh and the rice wasn’t too densely packed. We would recommend this restaurant for anyone who enjoys more authentic sushi but not for those who like sushi rolls, especially westernized sushi rolls.
Tucked away in the back corner of a strip mall in the semi-industrial flatlands of Kalihi, this gloriously charming, nostalgia-inspiring Japanese restaurant is worth a visit, if you haven't been there before. Yohei is somehow both a place everyone has heard of, but also a place that feels like your little secret when you visit... especially when the staff starts to recognize you as a repeat customer. My dad is, and they make him feel like a VIP.
The sushi, and the sushi bar, are the star of the show. And you can't go wrong ordering anything off the sushi menu. But its the teishoku dinners and special combinations that keep me coming back. First timers should just go for the Sushi Zen combination, which is basically a sampling of all the best items available that day, depending on what fish and other ingredients were available.
One thing that you don't read about are the desserts, which are also special. I will admit, not knowing what I'm doing, some desserts have not been to my tastes. But I've never seen them anywhere else, and am totally willing to risk a couple of "not for me" items to find the occasional winner.
Very nice place with Japanese vibe and very friendly staff!!! Food is delicious. Portions are big. If you want to feel yourself like in Japan you have to visit it. Located near the fishing pier but don’t pay attention to the area. It is worth it.
We went here twice during our 5 day stay in Honolulu, Oahu! I swore to only try out new places for every meal in Hawaii, but this place was worth coming back for the second time. We both got the “Sushi Zen” twice, and we could barely finish it every single time. They also give you hot tea and refill it FOR FREE! So so many sushi places will charge you EXTRA for tea but Yohei Sushi DOESN’T! And the service is amazing too! The waitresses would come back very very regularly to ask you how the food is, if you need anything extra and to fill in your water/tea. I can’t wait to go back to Oahu and eat here again. Literally one of the best sushi I’ve ever had in my life. 1000000/100 recommend :)
