Really, 10/10 everything! We came here for breakfast on a Friday, and now it’s my favorite spot for breakfast on the island. They use high quality ingredients and I didn’t feel like anything was too fatty or salty. Must get the breakfast set. Their homemade tofu is so good. Oh… best natto ever. If it wasn’t in Waikiki, I’d go every day lol. However, super easy walk across the street, parking at the zoo… or valet.
Food was really good and staff is friendly and patiently explain how every dish works. It is a bit on the pricey side, but overall an enjoyable experience for our group
Came here at a good time while there was hardly anyone here. We got our food pretty quick and it was probably my favorite restaurant during my vacation to Hawaii. The food was great, nothing spectacular but felt authentic. Can highly recommend it if you don't mind spending a little more money compared to the other restaurants in the area.
Hidden gem, indeed! $50 full course Sashimi Set was absolutely gorgeous. Extremely fresh. Many little delightful, housemade side dishes included for a stellar value. Scoop of ice cream at the end. I'll be back.
My husband and I both got the Japanese breakfast with mackerel -- very authentic and similar to breakfasts we've had in Japan. Every ingredient was fresh and delicious. The staff is extremely friendly and warm. Highly recommend!
Had an absolutely wonderful and authentic Japanese experience here. My servers were so helpful and took the time to explain everything. There were many courses and it was such a fun experience. Highly recommend for anyone that wants to experience a traditional Japanese dinner.
Authentic Japnese dinner.
I ordered the course A with Salmon.
Every appetizer was a nostalgic bite of my time living in Japan. The tokoroten (japanese jelly noodles) in mentsuyu was a spectacular intro to the course. (Best mentsuyu in Waikiki!) Other side dishes include yaki miso tofu, shrimp with yakimayo, kinpari gobo (burdock), and an interesting cucumber sandwich with a fermented peanut sauce. Very simple and traditional flavors.
Sashimi, consisting of amberjack (i believe) and chutoro were very fresh.
Tempura, fried and battered perfectly; however, the tentsuyu was lacking a little in the flavor department.
Salmon belly, just melts in your mouth.
Chawamushi, was a little bland in my taste. It had more of an egg umami relative to a dashi umami that I'm used to. Delightful nonetheless.
With a miso soup and ice cream to conclude my meal.
A great experience for those who want to experience a traditional japanese dinner. It's very authentic as in this is what you'll be getting in Japan; however, dont expect to be blown away. Especially when taking into account the Waikiki markup you'll paying. I would definitely come back for the Soba just to taste the mentsuyu again! Would recommend trying.
This is my favorite Japanese restaurant hands down. The food is a reasonable price for the huge amount of it. And every time I’ve been there it’s been super fresh and always delicious. I love everything I’ve ever eaten in there. And it’s fun to sit in the back room on the zabuton cushions and tatami mats, relaxing and enjoying a hot sake. It really makes me feel like I’m back in Japan. The servers have also always been attentive and friendly. Very good service. I recommend this place to anyone looking for an authentic and amazing Japanese meal.
Very authentic Japanese food with good service and dining environment.
The food was so good but the service was not great. Due to being understaffed, the service was suuuper slow, it was a full hour after we were seated when we got our main dish. The environment was not pleasant, it felt stuffy, there were no windows, but with quite a few flies flying about.
