Stumbled on this restaurant in Waikiki and it had 4.5 stars on Yelp. The restaurant is on the 3rd floor and you take an elevator from the street. The restaurants is gorgeous, food is delicious, service was so friendly. The best thing is we had the head chef named Axion (I think). If there is a downside, it cost a little more than my budget would allow for but it was totally worth it. I came with one other person but I think it would be fun to come with 7 friends and have an entire table to yourself. The other people at my table were from Japan and two from Korea and no one spoke English but we somehow managed to smile, laugh, and communicate.
First time. Having dined in many Japanese Hibachi Steahhouses found Tanaka of Tokyo here at the Ala Moana very upscale. Drinks were extremely good, maybe too good. For dinner the Steak & Shrimp and Scallops..... all very good. Show w/ the dinner was good. Overall enjoyed the experience.
Found out about this place from a street advertisement and thought we'd give it a try. We definitely made the right choice! For $35 I chose the chicken teriyaki which comes with pickled vegetables, salad, teppanyaki vegetables, rice, miso soup, green tea and dessert. The meal was very filling and the chicken was absolutely exquisite. Our chef was very funny and entertaining, he put on a great show and was very friendly. The waiter was very attentive with our drink orders and made sure they were always topped up. The restaurant is quite dim inside but the place is very alive with an upbeat atmosphere. Highly recommended!
See Leo at the bar for killer Mai Tai.
Awesome meal and a fun experience as well. Always a little leery going into a place clearly marketed to the tourists, but I needn't be. The portions were plentiful, the steak very good, the chicken excellent, and the shrimp and lobster fantastic. The only bad thing is the meal eventually ended.
Good show!. A friend and I went to this place, only because I was craving Japanese food. He had never been to a hibachi style restaurant before, and I suggested he try it, not for the food but for the show. I was impressed by the cleanliness of the restaurant, and the friendliness of the staff. Although the majority of the guests were Asian tourists, I did not feel out of place by our chef. The steak and shrimp were both tasty and I would say that the highlight of the show was the musical melody created with the utensils and the onion volcano. Good times good drinks, good food and friendly staff will always treat you right here. Enjoy this show, I highly recommend it!

Great for the entire family! My husband and I live eating great food in fun environments and it's even better when you can enjoy it with the kids! We wanted to go to the Tanaka of Tokyo located in Waikiki but the are not open for lunch so we zipped over to the one in Ala Moana (only one out of their 3 Hawaii restaurants open for lunch). Great value at lunch time! Superb service too! So far it's the best teppanyaki we've had on the island!
Best Tepanyaki. Love it!
Best benihana style tepanyaki restaurant in town
Terrific atmosphere and amazing chef. Witty, polite, and talented, we were thoroughly entertained for the 1.5 hours we were there for. Portions were bigger than expected. So much so that we didn't bother with the ice cream!
Reservations are recommended, especially for the weekends. Our group booked online using Open Table. Fast and easy 👍
Took my wife and daughter for my wife's bday. We had a great time. Our chef name was Cyrus, super fun and entertaining food was good and bathrooms were clean. Stuff all super friendly.
My parents and I were in Waikiki for a couple nights and a friend invited us here. We could not be happier, the chiefs are entertaining and talented and all the food is delightful, fresh and yummy! If you like Tepan grills this is a good spot to visit especially if you are staying at the Sheraton because it's just across the street. I hear there are two other locations.
I couldn’t wait to eat dinner for my birthday dinner with my daughter. I treated myself with seafood combo and boy I was not disappointed! The ambiance was awesome. Chef Scott was entertaining to watch. I enjoyed every moment of my dinner. I was really full before the desserts came out. I need another reason to come back soon again!
So much fun! We loved our chef Christian and it was such a blast eating here. The lobster tail was my favorite by far.
Stopped by on a whim over a year ago and had a great time. Chef was incredibly friendly and had great conversation, and food was excellent.
Great restaurant, chefs are very entertaining, food is very good (even ask for allergies). Can get a bit noisy from other parties around or when they start the show cooking.
But all in all worth the money. Definitely recommend it and would come back!

What an experience! This was my first teppanyaki experience and it was so entertaining and enjoyable! The servers rly put in their best to engage everyone at the table and to put up a good show. The food was really good too and the portions are decent. If you tell them you’re celebrating something the staff gather around and sing u a song while they serve dessert haha
WOW!! Eat here!!! Everything was absolutely wonderful -- the host staff got us in early, the waitress was beyond friendly -- the chef very funny -- and even the general manager was beyond courteous when he came to check in on us! The food is delicious and reasonably priced, huge portions, and comes with dessert! We're going to be back!
Incredible experience! The food was astonishing for the price. It is a bit higher end hibachi (expect $50 with tip and tax for most entrees), but it is extremely worth the price. The portions are great with plenty of courses (if you get an entree). The staff was attentive, entertaining, and helpful. You will definitely leave full and happy!
