My wife and I stopped after hiking at Afton State Park. We were immediately greeted by a friendly waitress that was Uber friendly. Service was quick, and authentic. The food was very good and fast to our table from the kitchen. We enjoyed the visit and the hospitality. We'll be back and have already recommended the location to some friends.

The restaurant had balloons up for Valentines, which I thought was very nice. A patron, I’m guessing a regular, let us know we could sit wherever when we walked in which I found charming and funny. Came for lunch on a Saturday, and it seemed they would have benefited from having another server. It seemed like there was only 1, and she was having trouble getting back to checking in on all the tables. She was friendly though. When I enquirer about what kind of soda they had, I was told “we have just about everything”, which I also found amusing. The food was mediocre. We stopped here specifically for their German potato salad which had been recommended to us, and found it underwhelming. My husband really enjoyed the bratwurst and cabbage & gravy. He said the sauerkraut was “just ok”.
I had the burger topped with bbq, coleslaw & onion rings. The burger was pretty good, but the “onion rings” were just burnt onions. I also received waffle fries instead of the onion rings I ordered because the waitress hadn’t written our order down, and seemed to have gotten that mixed up. (It’s always annoying when they don’t write down your order and then proceed to get something mixed up!)
Just rating the food, I’d give it a 3/5. But because of the friendly atmosphere, friendly staff and friendly patrons, I’d say the whole experience is a 4/5.

My husband and I brought my daughter, son in law and 3 grandchildren here to celebrate a graduation. It was not busy. My chicken was like rubber and barely warm I ate very little. My husbands liver was so dry he only ate 1/2 of it. And threw the rest when we got home. My daughter and 1 son had burgers that they said was good, but I noticed the only ate 1/2. My youngest grandson had mac n cheese. The noodles were stuck together and not hot. He left half a bowl. My son in laws sandwich was very dry, not good and he left 1/2 of it. My middle grandson had cheese curds and they were good.
$140.00 for a very bad experience.
I will not bring anyone there again. It was a terrible way to celebrate a graduation. The waitress was pleasant. She saw what we left. She did not ask how everything was. I was too upset to complain to her. It's not my nature to complain.
My daughter and son in law have been here before. They had always had a good meal.
Thanks.

My husband I decided to give the sampler A Taste of Deutschland a try, and boy, did we enjoy it! All of it was good, but the gravy was so delicious, we would have put that on just about anything. So savory. The saurkraut was wonderful, pulled meats were a wee bit dry, but everything together was delicious. And it was ready for pick-up in 15-20 minutes, a fast turnaround time we were happy to experience.

Quintessential Hastings experience... excellent German food and friendly staff. We came here on a Sunday after a 4 hour road rally in Pierce County, WI. Great place to relax and talk about the day's events.

In 2022 it is not okay to review a restaurant poorly due to a lack of wait staff.
None of my poor experience was due to the waitress, she was friendly and obviously hard working.
The food is a different story.
At my table we had two burgers, a turkey sandwich and the German sampler.
The turkey sandwich was enjoyed.
The burgers looked and tasted like they were cooked the previous day and reheated.
The German food was tragic.
The saurebraten looked liked canned chipped beef, as did the ham.
The weiner schnitzel was fried so long it looked almost black but was still somehow only lukewarm.
The bratwurst suffered the same fate as the burgers, they were cooked, left to dry out for several hours and then frantically heated again to be served.
The spätzel was the served as a hockey puck, both in shape and hardness.
Good things: cheese curds, red cabbage, and the chili one of the burger eaters ordered after he couldn't get past two bites of day old beef.
Probably a great place to drink and hang out but definitely not a great place to eat.
