We found this place to be a mixed bag but overall worth a try. The food and service were good, and the prices were the among the most affordable we’ve found around. Rocco’s gets extra points for the atmosphere as well. It feels somehow familiar and comfortable, like a memory.
There are only two real drawbacks. The first being that the place simply isn’t very big. Not a deal breaker by any means but it can be a bit tight. The other is that they are very busy and do not have much staff so they can be slow. They actually do a really good job, but can’t be everywhere at once.
This is our go to place for pizza whenever we are visiting Gulf Shores. The kids literally beg to go here. We always eat a light lunch and then go here for an early dinner. It’s best to try to get there around 4ish to beat the crowd. They are a popular spot and have live music some nights so parking can get a little tricky the later you go, but that’s how most places are here during vacation season. Our food is always amazing and this time was no different. We love the wide selection of items on the menu. They have plenty of tables if you choose to dine in and lots of seating at the bar. They are known for their raw oysters, if that’s your sort of thing. They also sell pretty cool Papa Rocco t-shirts in a variety of colors.
This is good stuff right here! Maybe something you see on DDD. Wife had an amazing meatball sub! Wonderful robust sauce, huge meatballs, perfect toasty bun!
I had the best price pizza it has all the good toppings on it! Crispy flaky crust it was money!
Service top notch! One waitress on duty busting her butt handling all the tables and doing a great job! Will definitely be back!
Absolutely BEST pizza around and best atmosphere! Everyone was so friendly! Loved the live music as well! If I could give a higher rating I would. We got pepperoni pizza, seafood pizza, and garlic cheese bread freaking delicious! The cheese and sauce they use is hands down the best around. On top of that, you can’t beat the prices!
My favorite restaurant in gulf shores. This place has excellent food. The pizza is the best I have had in the area, the burger was great, and the service was good. The only issue is the size, popularity and availability of parking. Basically it is a small place that is constantly packed, loud and has long waits. If you can get a parking spot they are close by, but more people are waiting outside typically than the amount of available parking. They did mess up my order one time a couple of years ago, basically they didn't hear one of my pizzas over the phone and there is such a long wait it wasn't worth waiting on them to cook it. Anyway if you don't mind waiting and being packed into a small space with tons of other people the food is great.
Papa Rocco's is a very popular place with a very long wait time. My family enjoyed an order of the Papas Buffalo Wings along with the Stuffed Mushrooms.. and let me say that the stuffed mushrooms were probably the best I've had ANYWHERE! We decided to be adventurous and try the Seafood Primavera Pizza and while it was definitely something different, it was still quite tasty. The only reason I give this place 4 stars instead of 5 is because (while we didn't mind the almost hour long wait) once we were seated, our waitress was not very attentive and our service was spotty at best. We would definitely still return though!
Had the best raw oysters on our trip thus far here. So good. They got a great source. Everyone enjoyed the cheese pizza. My daughter loved the Alpine burger. Very good steak sandwich. Great service. Wasn't crowded when we were here. Highly recommend this place.
