Kamdans Cafe

The joint was hopping at Friday's lunch run. We got there at about 12:10 so we expected the crowd. The service was very friendly and prompt, the kitchen was a little slow but the restaurant was in full tilt lunch service so I cut them some slack for that. My wife had the Friday lunch special of Catfish (2 x lg fillets) wit homemade fries and a tasty, sweet Coleslaw and 2 hushpuppies. Everything was VERY good except for the hushpuppies which were undercooked and gummy in the middle. The fish was GREAT! I had the large Chicken Fried Steak with Mashed potatoes and gravy; Onion Rings; Salad and Texas Toast. The potatoes were real, not instant and the gravy was good. The Onion strings were crispy and steaming hot. The only complaint was the batter on the steak was way oversized for the meat and the meat was run through a tenderizer and very thin. We'll go again, for sure.

Loved this place! We were driving through Groesbeck and needed a bite to eat. My wife spotted this place and we dropped in. To my surprise, they offered a "Crispy Pork Tenderloin" sandwich. I didn't know that anyplace in Texas sold them. I've had plenty of chicken fried steaks and chicken fried chicken. But, I thought the pork tenderloin sandwich cooked the same way was only in the midwest. Very good sandwich! Great service and reasonable prices.
