Hackney's On Lake

My siblings and I recently hosted a birthday party at Hackney's for our parents' milestone birthdays (80 & 85), and it was great! The setting was ideal, the food was good, the prices were very reasonable, and the staff was excellent! Especially with all the uncertainties that go with being in the midst of this pandemic, the Hackney's team was very easy to work with and accommodating in the planning of the event (recognizing that our guest count may have had to change significantly or that we may even have needed to cancel the event at the last minute). We had 30 people attend, and everyone loved it. The service was great, the timing of the drink orders and food delivery was spot on, and the staff even accommodated a very last-minute request on my part to use a large TV to show a slideshow of photos that I had created. Thank you, Hackney's, for helping us make this a special and memorable birthday celebration for our parents!

A friend reserved a room for a luncheon after her husband's funeral. Anyone's whose been here knows the resturant is large with many rooms, its was Saturday afternoon we were a group of around 50. She had arranged several menu choices along with fried onion loaf and an assortment of beer wine water and soda. This was the 2nd Saturday in August and it was very hot, in the low 90s, our group had about a dozen older people. We were placed in a room in the front of the resturant that was literal "pass though" for the room next to it and the patio outside. The room had NO AIR CONDITIONING. Before you think well this happens.. no they allowed people from other parties to walk through our party space, they had to be asked to close the door so they couldn't allow strangers to disrespectful walk through our space. The ultimate insult was I went to the bathroom. There completely empty, tables set COOL WITH AC was the Albert room that could have been used for our party. I have been to this resturant probably 100 times in the past 40 years never ever has the attention to service been so horrible and completely dismissive. Under no circumstance should ANYONE consider booking a group event here. They really don't seem to care if people choose to ever come back. What reason in the world would you have to do that except spite, race -we were a mixed race group or just sheer disrespect for our party. Never again will I attend another event there suggest them or go even for a quick meal. Really shameful

Enjoyed spending time with friends at a round table in this restaurant with great atmosphere. But I personally thought the Hackneyburger was over rated. it was OK, but not great. My husband had the corned beef & cabbage special & he said it was tough. They have Rueben sandwiches all the time, so you'd think they would know how to cook corned beef. Not sure how our friends enjoyed their meals. Go for the atmosphere, just don't bother with the specials. Also, they were short staffed, like so many places, but our waiter was wonderful!

Sadly, after coming here for over 50 years, I was really dissatisfied with my latest visit. We ordered the classic full onion brick appetizer and asked that it be cooked on the lighter side. Well, we received just the opposite. It was very crunchy and tasteless. Our Hackneyburgers, which we ordered medium rare, were overcooked as well. We would have sent both items back, but were on a time schedule that day and couldn't wait for new orders to come out. Also, it took forever for our items to get to our table. The server spoke broken English and maybe that was part of the problem. We love Hackney's and hope this was only a one time issue. However, if our next visit there turns out like this one, sadly, that will be our last visit.
