The Purple Pig #1, what a gem right off of Hwy 155 in Flint, TX. near Lake Palestine. We pulled in at 7:00 PM on a Sunday night and there were only 3 cars in parking lot. Generally this would cause me to rethink, but the reviews were good on Zumato.we ordered ribs and fried sliced jalapeño and it was fantastic. Good BBQ in a small community.
Pulled pork is great!!'. One of our favorite BBQ - Catfish places. The pulled pork is really, really good. My husband's favorite - the fried jalapeños. There was a young girl singing a Patsy Kline song and we first thought it was a recording but she sounded just like Patsy.
I see several reviews that complain about a variety of things. Maybe we got lucky, but we really enjoyed it. Service was excellent, pulled pork is indeed very light and tasty (per another review), coke slaw (purple :)) is very good, and the chicken strips are some of the best my kids ever had... And that's what they eat at most restaurants. For a local joint, if you are visiting, we recommend it!!!
This is the best BBQ around!
Great BBQ!. My family was arguing all morning on what we were having for lunch and finally decided on this place. My husband ordered the St. Louis Rib plate w/ broccoli cheese rice and mac and cheese. My daughter had the grilled cheese and mac and cheese. I ordered the 2 meat plate with broccoli cheese rice and fried okra. Also got a side of fried yeast rolls. WOW! The best ribs we've tasted in a very long time. ALL the side dishes were great. The sliced beef was juicy and smokey and just damn good. The bbq sauce was personally the best id ever had and wasn't the least bit spicy. You actually can taste the sauce and the meat together rather than just spice! The fried yeast rolls weren't greasy and they were sweet and fluffy.
Our waitress, albeit a bit ditzy was an excellent server. Service was fast and the the decor was pretty cool too. There were 2 things i did not like. The price, it was a bit expensive. For just us 3 it was $40. The other thing i did not like, in fact i hated it an expressed it to the waitresss was the Hill Country Sausage. OMG it was absolutely horrendous and thats being nice. Bad taste and mealy texture to the meat. I pushed it to the side and covered it with a napkin because even the look of it was just gross. Like a sliced turd on my plate.
All in all, its a great BBQ place and i will definitely be going back. In fact, my husband wants the ribs from this place AND the sauce for his graduation party this may so we will be back!
Love the pulled pork. One of the few places I can eat a pulled pork sandwich and it actually feels light and doesn't sit heavy...great smoky flavor
The verdict: I didn't have great expectations for the place from the outside. Man, oh man was I blown away. We order a mess of ribs, Pittsburg hot links, brisket, beans, potato salad, and I got a purple pig sandwich. Everything was outstanding. The brisket was cooked just right with plenty of smoke, the ribs were fall off the bone tender and delicious, the hot links were incredible with the sauce they offered. The purple pig was the star of the show, the pulled pork was smokey and tender with the crunch of the purple cabbage on top. The sides were also excellent with plenty of flavor in the beans and the potato salad. Just when we thought we were about to burst, the somewhat surly waitress demanded that we order the peach cobbler. Normally I would have passed, but the wife insisted, so we relented. I was glad we did. The cobbler was warm, fruity and buttery with a great crust. It was the perfect ending to a fantastic meal. Overall, the best meal I have eaten since we moved to Tyler.
