It’s 2pm on Friday in downtown Fairbanks and Bill is running around like a madman, single-handedly taking orders, serving tables and topping up waters while somehow still managing to dish out straw-wand blessings to waiting diners. All-in-all, a fairly standard lunch service at Soapy Smith’s, if not a bit busier than normal with the ice carving championships due to start soon. (By busy, I mean the restaurant is at half capacity; this is Fairbanks after all.)
Food was good. Service was great. Bill our server was very entertaining. He made us feel welcome.

Let's be clear-I go there to see the friendliest waiter in town:Bill! Food is just okay. But Bill is spectacular and always makes my day no matter my mood when I walk in. I know I am not the only one. He's the best in town.
Great food. The service is amazing. Attentive, personal service. Southern hospitality in Alaska. The food is great, too. The atmosphere is rich in Alaskan history. Great location for downtown shopping after lunch.
Great laid back restaurant! Rich in local history, locally owned. Reasonably priced, great menu selection! Pie is fantastic! A must visit in Fairbanks.
Had a nice lunch of Chowder and Alaskan King Crab burger, both were Alaskan size, beating Texas size by 2x!! 😊 The owner was busy introducing the stories of his grandpa Mike Stepovich and his dad Mike Stepovich II, once the territory’s governor in 1958-1959 before Alaska became the 49th State. A little lunch history lesson 😊😊
Excellent Crab sandwiches and fries. Gotta try the Agave beer. Need service personnel, but who doesn’t.
If you're looking for a small town dinner this place will check all the boxes! Bill the waiter was amazing. When I couldn't decided between the pastrami and the Reuben, he put pastrami meet on the reuben and it was AMAZING! The owner was there and telling us about his family heritage, which is the memorabilia on the walls. Great place to stop in for lunch or comfort food dinner!

Good food and great atmosphere. Our server (I think the owner) was great. Interacted with everyone in the place. Great beer selection too.
