Jilly's Cafe

This place looked soooo cute on the outside and because of that it has been on our “to try” list forever. We finally went on a Thursday night and everything was just perfect. The place was quiet with 3-4 tables filled. We ordered the escargot, the trout, and the duck, and also got a free crème brûlée for dessert thanks to my husband’s NU wildcard discount. Every dish was tasty and delightful from start to finish. Price was decent with what we ordered but some of the specialty dishes certainly looked pricey. Overall, we had a very nice evening and will definitely be back.

The last time before last week I had been here was about 13, 14 years ago, and at that time the food was amazing. Came back last week on that memory, and maaaaaaaaan, it dropped off a lot unfortunately. Had the steak frites and the steak was chewy as hell and unflavored. The fries were limpy and not good either. I honestly could have made this meal at home and probably have made it taste better, and I am no chef at all. The beet salad, which I remembered to be really good was okay at best. They serve your wine in what looks like a child's wine glass, so small. And its not cheap here, which made it sting more. The only good thing was that our server was super nice and attentive. But the food? Really bad :/

The food was decent, a bit overpriced. On the plus side, the restaurant was quiet and intimate -even on a Friday night. The problem was that the waiter did not wear a mask , the customers had to keep masks on when he approached the table. He made us very uncomfortable - he clearly saw that we care about masking ( not to mention that it is the law ), but he did not even explain or apologize...
