Love it! Small little place in Saylorville. Top five pizza places in Des Moines. I've heard some much about this place the past few years. It was worth it. I have also eaten Italian dishes, very good. If you want great food and drive off beaten path...here you go. You won't regret!
Great Experience. First time visitor this week, my wife and I absolutely loved this place.
I ordered the basic sausage pizza (what I always order the first time at a pizza place - kinda hard to screw up, right?). Sausage is house-made, has a nice little bite. Thin, but chewy crust, pizza had just the right amounts of everything, from sauce to ingredients to cheese. Possibly the best pizza I've had in Des Moines.
Wife ordered the Italian Chef Salad (Italian beef, pepperoni, cappicola) with the house-made Italian dressing - best she's ever had, actually brought some home with us. Italian beef was outstanding (going to try it out on a sandwich today).
Service was polite and attentive. Atmosphere was warm and kind of dark. Great out of the way date place - I highly recommend Sonny's!
Such a welcome addition to the dining scene up north. Food and service is excellent. Love the cavatelli and the pizza. Owners are really good at this restaurant thing! Try it.
Very friendly, pleasant environment. Ordered the Italian Meats specialty pizza and were extremely pleased. Price was very affordable. Definitive one of those "hidden gems" you would go back to!
Now this is pizza!!!. Sonny's can be a little bit hard to find, but search it out if you love pizza!
Nice crispy crust, great sauce, a nice variety of toppings all baked to perfection. What's not too love? This town has lots of pizza joints but we think Sonny's is the best by far.
But Sonny's is more than just pizza. It serves up lots of great pasta dishes and yummy sandwiches.
Our favorites: Sonny Supreme Pizza that has a whole bunch of good stuff, the Sicilian Shrimp Pasta and the Chef's Pasta.
All served up by friendly, attentive and very efficient servers.
We also like how the owners are always present and making sure everything is okay.
Once you find Sonny's---and you'll be glad you did---you're sure to go back often. We do! It's small and can get crowded. And if you have to wait for a table, do it. It's worth the wait!
This is a great neighborhood find! They can only seat about 40 but I love it. I have never been disappointed by anything on the menu.
The service was over the top and I think they were all embarrassed for the condition of the first pizza. And they did the right thing by getting me another one.
