We had dinner at the Last Kind Words Saloon twice during our recent stay at the Ranch at Death Valley. I thankfully took the advice from the web site and made reservations in advance. The weekend before we got there it was totally booked. The service was great -- very friendly and attentive. If you ask for advice on what to get, you will get good advice. The food was good. I had a nice filet one night and salmon on the second night. Both were prepared very nicely. One note -- it is not cheap. There is a reason they don't put prices on the menu on-line. But the buffet next door is over $30/person. Remember, you are in Death Valley and there aren't many choices. All in all, we enjoyed our meals and our time there.
Was nervous going to eat because of the negative reviews....some of them were really hilarious and I thought I have to step up my review game. But here's the deal...we had a really great attentive waiter Jose, we had prime rib, the filet, chili, and a kale salad. The 2 of us that had the filet were really happy. Cooked perfectly. Expensive if you're used to Sizzler but not any more than a Vegas Steak house. 2 had prime rib, 1 said excellent 1 wished he had ordered it a little more well done. They both ordered medium rare. 1 had kale salad, not baby kale, a little tough should have been massaged but the stuff with it was good, the chili was excellent and came with cheese onions and sour cream..added chips from our left over chips and salsa appetizer and was really good. So for our last night together before we all go our separate ways it was great!
We were in death valley for the weekend and had diner here and the food was delicious.
They did take longer to accommodate a larger party of people but it was well worth it.
The servers we had were great, very helpful and friendly.
Our experience here was awesome. We had to wait little considering they were crazy busy and short staffed we understood. We sat in patio which has nice ambience. We ordered pistachio pasta and some burger. Both dishes were crazy expensive but delicious. We were eating in the middle of desert after all. Their decor is something to admire and staff was very friendly.
Great atmosphere with the wild west decor, feels like an old upscale saloon. Food was pretty good, so was the service. Slow in the daytime but night time is more lively. Next to a gift shop with the souvenirs. Second time around, will return here next time.
Sweet potatoes were good, chicken sandwich was great! Loved the atmosphere it has an old-time vintage look. The service was excellent, and they were busy!
Stopped in here for lunch when we were in death valley to check out the lake at Badwater Basin. Absolutely charming property, staff are incredibly nice. Food is great, we would definitely eat here again!
Food was pretty good, but generally kind of soggy. I won't complain about prices, the location justifies them. Cool atmosphere. Servers friendly if a tad slow.
This is one of those difficult reviews to write because it needs a lot of context. Last Kind Words Saloon is a family style touristy restaurant that charges incredibly high prices for food that is just OK. That being said, you are over 2 hours away from civilization in an oasis in Death Valley so you give them a bit more leeway than normal. It’s your typical steakhouse fare with “resort style” pricing and non existent service. The food was OK but really lacked any sort of flavor and the sides tasted like they had been sitting out for a bit. But once again - you are in the middle of Death Valley! The “saloon” is cheesy and touristy in decor but it works. Seeing Death Valley after dark is a must do - and eating dinner here and reading for a bit before venturing back out is a great way to do it.
Wow this makes a trip to Death Valley worth it especially if you're worried about there being nothing to eat. This large complex with a huge gift shop and great dining room presents a terrific American barroom menu with good quality food and an Old West saloon atmosphere to boot.
The gift shop is huge with everything you could want to commemorate your Death valley visit.
The price is in the restaurant are not unreasonable for a resort experience and the fact that it's here is The most amazing part.
