Review Paul's Fifth Avenue - Columbus

Didn't know that the sale several years ago didn't go through...was excited to learn that it was still open. Went there for the first time since. Great food and quality, just as I remembered. Now for the issues with our service. Although our waitress was nice...we put our drink and food order in at the same time because we had already decided what we wanted. In the roughly 15 minutes (maybe longer), our waitress went to the bathroom, got herself something to drink, was doing who knows what else in between....I had to approach her, tell her she still hadn't gotten us our drinks and she made up some excuse about silverware to cover for the fact that she hadn't gotten our drinks. She was nice and fairly on top of things after that....

easily our fav place! try to visit once a week. coffee is excellent & imho better than most simple brewed coffees. my top 3 brekkie plates (pics) 1. love the fresh belgian waffle w/whip. you can get ice cream too if you wanted. 2. tots w/sausage gravy & cheddar. 3. french toast. they serve so much in a small setting. lunchtime there’s classic italian specials, wedding soup, chicken parm. large beer selection, mimosa, bloody mary, you can get pitchers. milkshakes w/ or w/o liquor. homemade pies chocolate cream w/butter crust & one time peanut butter cream, I am not kidding. the staff always smile & take care of us. love & thanks

Checks all the boxes for morning brunch. We came in at the same time as a 15 person table and they still managed to deliver everyone's food fast. Food was also delicious and big for a good price. For our first experience, this place was fantastic!

Favorite haunt for breakfast. Great cast of characters always there. Don't expect a fancy restaurant, just good food

Classic diner atmosphere, love it. Their Sausage Gravy is worth a trip on its own lol.

Cute homey diner type feel. We split a six egg omelette and enjoyed a bloody mary. I Would recommend this spot for the food 1st, location, friendly vibe and cleanliness. This place hit all the marks. Thanks!

Could be the most underrated restaurant in the city. Food is always excellent, great menu selection and adult milkshakes! Bonus!!

We were looking for a local place for breakfast, and I drive by this place coming home from work. We were very pleased with the food and the service! We will be back!

Treasure this classic place. I really don't like chain restaurants--I just don't--but I also don't seek out (or take a chance on) little mom-n-pop type places like Paul's because they can go either way. I like to hear a restaurant is good from someone I trust. So I heard about this place and visited this morning and will be sure to come back. It's classic, old school, and GOOD. YUMMY food from nice servers. I had the Greek omelet and it was delicious--the server was very friendly/attentive and so was the hostess. I liked it. I'll be back.

Breakfast with a lively server. The counter service and food is outstanding. Coffe is better than Dunkin' Donuts. Fast service at a reasonal price, I'll be back.

The best liver and onions! Seriously!

The Best Joe Fries in town. I had the Joe Fries with 3 Pancakes and Sausage. It was crispy and delicious potatoes. I love it because Paul's serves breakfast all day.

Another Try...Not !. We live near Paul's and although not regular customers, we do eat there on occasion. My 15 year old daughter and I walked in tonight and were greeted by an older lady who gave us a hand signal to follow her all the way to the booth next to the door. Zero words spoken. She handed us each a menu and walked away. Returned a minute later and literally slammed two glasses of water on the table and walked away again. We later assumed that our sin was not coming in often enough as there was no other explanation. We did not give her a third chance to insult us as we got up and walked out. Never again.

Delicious but Dingy. Our first visit to Paul's resulted in a very delicious breakfast at a great price. The service was very quick and our server was kind through the entire meal - she offered to-go beverages for us as well.

I didn't much prefer the atmosphere as it was on the dingy side with bad lighting - I'm sure it is extremely expensive to make renovations, but I really think it would be a step in the right direction. Some of the staff interactions seemed to be really unprofessional - at one point, I witnessed a younger employee begin to start an argument with an older employee. It seemed like a conversation that should have happened in the back away from where patrons were dining.

I wouldn't mind making a second trip to Paul's, however, it wouldn't be my first choice.

Steve Davis. My 11 year old Granddaughter and I have visited over 40 different Italian restaurants in the Columbus area. We thoroughly enjoyed Paul's Fifth Ave. The food and service was great. If they would up grade the decor, you would not be able to get in. This is a real comfortable place.

Surprisingly good dinner. I usually come here for breakfast and the food is typically good and fairly priced. I decided to come in for dinner one evening and had one of their pasta dishes and it was outstanding! It's a little pricey for dinner but it is VERY good. Worth a try if you're in the neighborhood.

I just got home from Paul's Fifth... Honestly, it's not like I absolutely love the place or hate it. It seems like an Americanized Italian type but I'm not a pro on eatery. My friends enjoyed themselves and our server was really awesome. He was friendly and was very prompt. The one downside was... I found a piece of hair in my dessert... :( right when I was halfway finished!

Hand's down, my favorite place to eat in cbus. I'm actually really surprised by the comments left by others on this forum. We have gone to Paul's regularly over the past few years. The food is consistently tasty, the service prompt, and the interior clean and cozy. We know quite a few of the servers by name, Miss. Lee, Miss Jeanie and P.J. are tops in our book. They always remember what "our usual" is and the super sweet. Miss Jeanie bakes cakes regularly that are amazing, the orange chiffon is out of this world. No, Paul's is not Due Amici or Martini's, and thank God for that, 'cause with it's friendly staff, homey environment and a real honest-to-goodness locally owned family restaurant, who wants to eat anywhere else?

Disaster from start to finish. Paul's is a deceiving place- it looks like it would be a nice Italian restaurant on the outside but inside it is like a crappy diner complete with a checkout counter and pie cooler. I can forgive these things in the name of a good meal and good service but got neither of those things.

Service? Forget it. My group sat there for 15 minutes before our waiter even acknowledged us. He avoided making eye contact with us the entire time we sat there rushing past our table about 8 times before he tossed some bread on our table and scurried away again. When he did come, he didn't introduce himself he just asked what we wanted to order. So we had to ask for a bottle of wine, which we ended up waiting for about 20 minutes for, before we had to ask a bus boy to check on it for us. He brought out our soups and salads about 2 minutes before our entrees.

The food was mediocre at best. You can get better Italian food anywhere else for a better price.

If you ask me, I'd say pass on Paul's.

Charm and warmth. Here's the deal. Paul's offers great food in the "homey Italian-American style" for--if you factor in the ubiquitous ValuPak coupons--an obscenely low price. Every time I've been there, Jean works there as a server, and this woman belongs in the "local character" hall of fame. She looks like my grandmother, she has the same name as my grandmother, she has a charmingly distinctive voice (um, you'll know what I mean once you hear it), and she bakes fabulous cakes, which they serve for dessert. If you go to Paul's once, you will know who Jean is. I've only had her chocolate cherry cake, and it was to die for Warm, melty, not too sweet, light texture and molten top.

More importantly, eating at Paul's is like eating in your grandparents' dining room in 1975, and I mean that as the highest possible compliment. I always feel welcome and at home there, and the food, as I said, far outshines much of what I've had at similarly mom-and-pop places. That sounds like a backhanded compliment, but it's not. The lasagna in particular is delicious, scented with a hint of nutmeg, creamy cheese, and tangy tomato sauce.

Don't listen to the people who bash Paul's. Even if the food sucked--which it doesn't--it would get by on its charm. Don't expect Babbo, expect the welcoming arms of the kind of plucky original I, personally, am glad to have in my neighborhood.

NOT EVEN EDIBLE- TERRIBLE.. Well this place sucked in just about every way. A friend recommended this place for some ungodly reason, and after this I will never take his recommendation on anything again. I don't mind the fact that the place is the size of a shoebox, in fact in some cases, if the food is actually decent, it can be endearing (a la 'original pancake house' in chicago). But Paul's delivers barely edible food with servers that appear to come straight out of a West Virginia truck stop. They are truly "the people that society forgot". So I order french toast with "fresh" fruit and an orange juice. Well, the orange juice tasted like a weak Tang mix- or perhaps water with a squeeze of orange in it? Either way it was terrible and could not be considered "orange juice" as such. The fruit looked like it was delivered by boat from a shanty town in India- the strawberries, melon, kiwi and pineapple were all brown and looked rotten. I wouldn't even put it in my mouth it looked so bad. The french toast was worse than when my dad let me try and make it when I was 9 yrs old, but amazingly it was the high point of the meal (if you can call it a meal). I would have said something to the "server" (I use that term loosely) but it was clear that not only would it have fallen on deaf ears, but it would have been the subject of ridicule. So please please please avoid Paul's in Grandview, it is what I would like to call "below the poverty line" in terms of a dining experience. If this place were rated a 1 star, Denny's would be a 5 triple diamond.

Bad. Not very good. Won't be returning.

Pass on Paul's. Some of the worst service I have ever had and the food is not much better. Not a good example of what Grandview has to offer.
Dawn
Slow service, sad décor and mediocre food. Very disappointing.
4ZFood
It is definitely not a fancy place, but serves reliably good breakfasts

I love eating out for breakfast, especially when I get there nice and early on a week day. My usual haunt is Nancy's. The price is right and the food is plentiful. The best thing is the atmosphere. Where else can you get up and serve coffee to the rest of
