George's Bbq

I have been coming here about every two weeks for several months now, I have never been disappointed in the food quality or the service offered here. The meat has been moist and flavorful with each meal. I have had the opportunity to try almost everything on the menu. The ribs are the best I have had (Memphis BBQ used to be the best in my opinion). When you come, come hungry as the pulled pork/chicken/brisket are a large portion served on a jumbo bun. The fried green beans are a good side (little spicy). The choices in homemade barbecue sauces offer something for almost everyone (four offerings). George's in my favorite BBQ spot - friendly staff and great food.

We've had BBQ here a few times and it has been very good. The fries have also been excellent. Unfortunately, I cannot say the same about the cheeseburgers. I ordered two cheeseburgers with fries yesterday and both were very disappointing. The burgers were way past well done, extremely dry and tasteless. Actually one of them was burned to the point of being inedible. Two of the buns were burned as well. Not just toasty, burned. As a final touch, my fries were soaked in pickle juice. True, it was 6 pm on Friday and quite busy, but I expected the usual good food I have been getting here. This was a waste of almost $20.00.

After 3 tries and continously being told they had sold out we knew it would be great. We ordered pulled pork and brisket sandwiches. Sides were onion rings, slaw, and baked beans. The brisket was very tender, the best. The pulled pork was bland. The onion rings were delicious. The slaw was sweet and the baked beans were awful. The sauces were too sweet. The service was excellent.

Update: After more than half a dozen visits to George's bringing friends and co-workers, this place has easily taken the top spot in multiple categories for Memphis bbq. Highlights include the BBQ egg rolls, brisket (and brisket nachos), dry wings, and the ribs... oh the ribs. George's is putting the other established names to shame. In a city synonymous with BBQ, it's nice to have something a little different to offer. George's BBQ is more of the Austin, TX style made-fresh BBQ than most Memphis BBQ joints. They only make enough BBQ for the day so if you get there too late they may run out. This is a good thing and it shows in the BBQ. On my first visit, they were out of ribs but we got to try pulled pork, beef brisket, and smoked wings. They were all seasoned and smoked well and perfectly supported by their variety of homemade sauces. The sides also have something different to offer than the typical Memphis fair with coleslaw with a bit of a kick and a non-traditional potato salad, both good (also available are fries and beans). Serving sizes were generous and the staff was attentive. The only negative is their burgers seemed a little plain, compared to the rest of their food but I will definitely be back again to try some of the other items.

The brisket is some of the best I have had in a long time ! It had a nice texture , great bark/smoke ring and a unique spicy taste. - I also Ordered a few pounds of pork ( very delicious ) , racks of ribs (also good ), along with the brisket to go. I will be back and would recommend ordering in advance if your looking for more than a few pounds of beef brisket to go! Glad we have a new BBQ joint in the ville !

I finally went to George's for a BBQ sandwich and sides and was very pleasantly surprised. I really didn't think you could do good BBQ in a strip center location. The pork sandwich with cole slaw was delicious and huge. I would put it up there with any of the Memphis BBQ places. The macaroni bites were very good. The beans were good. They are a little on the sweet side, but very good, unless you don't like sweet. I will definitely be going back

I had the pulled pork sandwich with macaroni bites and coleslaw. While the later two were very good, the sandwich was less then stellar. The pork itself was tasty, but there was no BBQ sauce on it and the sauce at the table was bland. The bright side however was that there was plenty of pork on the sandwich.
