Im not sure how well I can judge the food at Sokolowskis. Being from Texas, many of the things I saw today were foreign to me. I don't see the dish I had today on the menu, but it was a fried chicken breast with white sauce. Very tasty! I also had mashed potatoes with brown gravy and mac & cheese. Both delicious. Now, I've never had a pierogi in my life, so I have nothing to compare it to, but it seemed very bland. Dessert was coconut cream pie, which was outstanding. I can definitely see how this is a popular spot. Overall the mail was delicious and I left very full.
One of my favorite places! You will likely wait in line for a bit, but it's definitely worth the wait. I usually get the stuffed cabbage which is phenomenal, other favorites are the breaded pork chop and the meatloaf. It's great comfort food.
Starch+Potato+Cheese+BUTTER = the best Perogies
Sokolowski's is not a place to eat if you are on a diet. But the perogies are just amazing.
Old school "cafeteria" style. Hearty food that no one will feel hungry just like what eating suppose to be?
Beer on tap or in bottles either Polish or from local breweries.
Anthony Bourdain would have agree with "No Reservations" that this is what me and Michael Symon consider as "Best Thing I Ever Ate"!
The line was long but nmoved fast the sign of a good and well organized place. The food was hot straight from the kitchen. The service was fast maybe too fast. The portions were ok but for the hype that I've heard disappointed the progie s were samm good so if you are going to the Christmas story house stop by its worth the wait
Same as it ever was. Although I've been coming here on and off for over thirty years, this is the first time I've rated this establishment. I had the occasion to visit at lunch again last week and was inspired write a comment. The source of this inspiration was a Reuben sandwich. It was the first time that I had ordered something from the kitchen instead of choosing from the cafeteria-style selections. It took about 10 minutes to arrive and was well worth the wait. I'm actually salivating right now at the memory, a week later, of this very large, very warm sandwich just dripping with goodness. It's size rivaled Slyman's and I have to say it was better than I remember Slyman's being. I tried picking it up and eating it with my hands but it was so big and juicy that I was using too many napkins so I decided to use a knife and fork. I told myself "eat half and take half home" but that didn't work because it was just too good and I could not stop at half.
The only negatives I can think of were that I had also purchased a piece of carrot cake and there was no way I could finish all of that too. Also, after this big a lunch I had to take a nap - which is not a good thing to be doing at one's desk on a work day.
Do yourself a favor, try ordering some of the items they prepare to order. You won't be disappointed.
Their food is like a big hug! I love everything they serve & it is so comfortable in the dining room -especially when the guy is playing the piano.
Historic. Let me start by saying I love this place. I gave it four stars because I want people to come here and support a place that takes a person back in time. I’m of Lithuanian heritage and my buddy that I was eating with was born in Poland. We know our Slavic food! Everything was excellent and well spiced. Blandness is a common complaint about the cuisine... not a problem here. But honestly there are some flaws. If it weren’t for the history and the atmosphere of a bygone era I would knock off a star. The food is terrific, don’t get me wrong. The weakness is in the very limited menu. No fresh kielbasa? No sauerkraut and mushroom pierogi? I know I’m in the midwest... and the Bratwurst was terrific... but I’m a fresh kielbasa kind of guy. No mustard on the tables?! No horseradish for my kielbasa?! Again I love this place, I’m just nitpicking.
The Stuffed Cabbage is always a treat. If your lucky, you'll see Bernie whipping them up in the kitchen. Don't forget a slice of the Coconut Whipped Cream Cake! Delish!!!
The Very Best in Cleveland. Being a native Clevelander, I am bias to the eastern European food styles. Sokolowski's exemplifies the very best in the Cleveland eastern European food. My family and I have been going to Sokolowski's for many years (before it became famous from TV) and the food quality remains the same. Top notch polish food, no frills, just good and hearty. Not to mention, the portions are unbelievable. They give you enough food for 3 meals! This is the best restaurant in the city of Cleveland. If youre coming from out of town, and dont know what Cleveland is all about, check out Sokolowski's. Just remember to tip the piano player, he's a great guy!
This is the place we take out-of-town guests when we want to give them a taste of old ethnic Cleveland.
Have never been to a cafeteria style restaurant before but this has set the bar. There’s plenty of different main dish and side options. Everything tasted amazing and the service was friendly.
You get a salad bar with your meal which was nice. Be prepared to consume a LOT of food. Their portions are enormous.
Main dishes + two sides, a roll and salad bar averages from $13-20+ dollars depending on the main dish.
I really enjoyed the cabbage roll, pierogi and mashed potatoes. The Mac n cheese was a little bland taste wise to me.
I didn’t order the beer battered fish but that will definitely be on my radar if we can ever come again, it looked delicious.
The place has a full bar and inside is warm and cozy. A lot of famous stars have dined here and the interior is setup with photos and signatures from the guests throughout.
Overall a great experience and we will definitely come again.
Love the atmosphere here. The food is always good. Lines can be long during the evening hour so plan to come early. Afternoon hours during the weekdays are a great time to come and have a meal. Pierogi are delicious every time. Stuffed cabbage is tasty. I usually come here for the chicken paprikash. They have a huge menu and nightly specials.
This was a lucky find traveling through Cleveland! We were looking for a great Polish Eatery, and we found it! The Chicken Paprikash was heavenly! The Salisbury Steak was great too! All the sides were incredible. There was nothing we had that wasn't wonderful! We will have to make a trip there, just for the restaurant! Oh, and for pierogis!
Delicious food. I got Salisbury steak, pierogi, mac & cheese, and mushroom soup. All of them were fantastic. They also have really good bottled milk. There's a piano player in one of the rooms on Saturday nights. Lines quickly form for dinner on Saturdays - go for lunch during the week if you want fewer crowds. They have copies of the menu and specials near the line.
As a first timer, I had a wonderful time. My husband found this place because he knows how much I love getting a true, homecooked, authentic Polish meal. And this place did not disappoint. He took me here for my birthday lunch and this wonderful couple helped us out by telling us what we had to try. Their list kept going and going and they seemed to end every sentence with..."it's all so good." We ended up getting the pierogi and chicken plates. That couple was right. It was SOOO good. I can't wait to go back to try the bread pudding. Thank you Sokolowski family for playing your part in keeping the Polish culture alive. ❤❤❤
The most amazing food I had all year in 2019! This was the place my fiancee and I went to the evening of my birthday on our weekend trip across Ohio, and it was amazing!
The atmosphere is very cozy. There were family photos and photos of famous individuals, most notably Michael Symon, who had visited there. There was a bar, wood tables that were packed but didn't feel too close together, and a lovely chandelier! On the weekends, they have a live piano player which was a nice touch!
The food was nothing short of spectacular. Sokolowskis serves traditional Polish food, including favorites like pierogies, Salisbury steak, and stuffed cabbage, which is exactly what we went with. They also have an interesting variety of cold beverages like orange milk, cream soda and ginger beer. We were content with water, but it was very nice to have a lot of choices! We did try their homemade rice pudding and an apple pastry and loved both of them! We still had leftovers to take with us, but both agreed that we would order an extra meal next time we went to-go :D
Even with a tip, we still only spent less than 50 bucks! We've been joking around the last few months that we would take the 7 hour ride from Philly to Cleveland just to come back here! I can't wait until we do :)
This family owned restaurant has been around for decades and their casual cafeteria style serving, has passed the test of time. Classic polish recipes, vintage decor, and live music to compliment the setting, Sokolowski’s is a Cleveland landmark. Everything on the menu is a must and will not disappoint.
Coming from a NYC polish person who spends a lot of time in Greenpoint, Brooklyn(aka little Poland) where they have some of the best Polish food and sushi lol... This place is pretty decent. Some of the food is more Americanized and not as Polish as I expected. The perogies are good. The steak was a little dry. The stuffed cabbage was pretty good. The staff is great and friendly. Really fun atmosphere.
Been around forever for a reason... Food is great.. Food is plentiful, more than just great food an awesome experience.. Highly Recommended...Worth the drive, worth the wait... Amazing portion sizes... Must make this your next stop!!! The view is awesome as well..
How have I lived in Cleveland my entire life and NEVER dined here?! The food was absolutely amazing, fresh, great variety. Service was excellent AND the ambiance even better with live piano. I'll be back regularly! Pictured is the stuffed cabbage, mashed potatoes, brussel sprouts and pork chop mashed potatoes and pieroges. Absolutely delicious!
