I honestly did not know this place had re-opened - it had (as I understand it) been closed for years by the time I had even heard of it, but after I read Bri's review I knew I had to stop by
The menu comes across as both soul food and barbeque, but the bbq is (for now) only on Sundays, and for the rest of the week the menu varies between things like baked chicken, smothered pork chops, fried fish, wings, and the like. Down south I think they'd call this a "meat-n-3" (meaning a protein with 3 sides) and thats pretty much specialty here. If you stop by during the week, don't look at the menu, as most things listed won' be available - just ask whats good that day.
On my latest visit, the smothered pork chops looked to be my best bet, so I after considering the greens, corn, and beans, I had a single chop (7.99) with rice and gravy, green beans, and a cornbread muffin.
The smothered chop was pretty good, and worked well with the rice and gravy, but the stars of the show were by far the green beans and the corn bread muffin. Both were amongst the best of their type I have ever had.
I was hoping to try their mac-n-cheese but for now, thats also only available on the weekend, as is the other thing I'd really really love to try here, the cornish game hen
Fair warning - while I had no issues, some might find the neighborhood where this eatery is located to be a bit uncomfortable.

My Dad has been telling me about this place for forever. Today is his birthday, so he requested we head there. Come to find out it is very close to my office, so I’ll definitely be hitting this place up for lunch. We walked in and it was a really chill, welcoming place. I love when you can see different options of food. I am a visual person. The special was for baked chicken, with 2 sides for $6.99. You can’t beat that, for a leg quarter that size! My Dad ordered the fried fish, it was whiting and sides and our total was $18.00. We were eating in so she put his food on and we took a seat in the dining area. It was large & clean and I loved all the windows.
I have not been to Ike's since I was a child and I'm 38. I ordered a salmon croquette dinner with Mac and cheese and cabbage. The food was so flavorful and fresh! It was so good I couldn't stop talking about it. The customer service was also very good. The young lady greeted me as soon as I walked in. I didn't have to wait long for my food and I had multiple orders. The peach cobbler was the only thing I wasn't a fan of. Back in the day they used to sell the best pound cake... I will definitely be back and I live all the way in Fairfield.
The restaurant is very great. Food taste was very awesome. Staff behave friendly for everyone. Atmosphere were also great. I love this place. Definitely I Will be come back soon.
Has become my unofficial kickoff to summer. Ribs, ribs, ribs. Sauce is optional - good with or without. Catch the sides when you can. More options on Sundays. All of them good but I don't want to waste one on corn when I can get sweet potatoes which unfortunately wasn't available today. Good reason to go back.
Was visiting town and a friend told me to try Ikes, so I did. Let me just say A1! Food was delicious, everyone was warm welcoming, the vibe was there and the establishment was clean (cleanliness is a big one for me)!! Definitely recommend
They allowed me to dine-in during Covid and were very accommodating.
Food was awesome.
Had the Grilled Salmon over rice, dressing, greens, and spiced cornbread.
All of it was good.
Some of the best dressing I've ever had.
My only negative is the choice of music was vulgar perhaps accommodating a younger crowd.
A pleasant surprise! Ike's is all remodeled and has great tasting food. If craving some Southern-style food in a casual sit down environment or for take out, Ike's is worth a visit to Evanston.
Food was fried fresh and flavorful. The place was clean and has wheelchair accessibility. The workers were helpful in answering all my questions about the menu. And the best part on Sundays they give you 3 sides! And their sides are good and seasoned. Only reason I didn't give a 5 star is because their awesome breakfast dont start till 11am, however they said they are working on opening at 8. So if looking for breakfast call first to see if that changed. Otherwise 5stars all around.
The food was delicious! I was shocked! The dining area was closed we did carryout. The customer service was warm and friendly. Good old fashioned Soul Food. I will definitely return. I had salmon croquettes, cabbage, and potato salad!

Tried for the first time today, got fried chicken, succotash, mashed taters, gravy and a corn muffin. Everything is divine. Perfectly seasoned, fresh, fast. Service was fast and friendly. $11 is a bit pricey for lunch, but this is some good old fashioned home cooking. Worth it, and I'll be back.
This was my first time eating from them and i was overly pleased. I had the smothered pork chops and they were made JUST LIKE my mother makes them. It is hard to find a good soul food restaurant that actually tastes good. I will definitely order from them again. Reminds me of home!
