Review Jean-robert's Table - Cincinnati

Yelena Hagan
I am absolutely loving it! Love the atmosphere, decor, staff is super friendly and helpful.... but the food! Oh yes, that's definitely a winner! I got the lunch tray and every single thing in it was superb. Elegant, refined, delicious and extremity well executed. Roasted carrot soup was decadent and creamy, the spinach, egg and mushroom salad light and complex, chicken crispy and tender with fingerling potatoes and haricots vert ... Simply stunning! Cannot wait to try the dinner menu

Our family came here for the lobster tasting menu; I opted to add the wine tasting. The lobster salad was a refreshing start to the meal. The chilled lobster contrasted to heat of the Banyuls vinaigrette. On the flip side, the vinaigrette overpowered any notes of grapefruit or avocado that were supposed to be present. Some members of the table noted how hot (spicy) the vinaigrette, but I thought it was reminiscent of the vinaigrettes I had in France. The lobster bisque was luxurious and bursting with flavor. The lobster meat in the bisque had an excellent garlic flavor. The bisque itself probably had a tad too much of a seasoning I can't pin down (seemed a bit more Cajun). The wine paired with this meal was excellent; the nose was strong and acidic but the palate was delicate, creamy, and had a hint of stone fruit. The red snapper...this is the reason why I didn't give 5 stars. It was not seasoned, I knew it from the first bite. And there was no salt on the table so I used the salted butter instead. Textures were appropriate, fish was cooked well, presentation was nice, but it was not seasoned properly. The Pinot that was served was a bad pour and contained sediment. I let our waiter know but told me it was normal. Shortly after this course, the waiter came back with another glass of Pinot, and acknowledged the error...nice save. The Pinot was delicious with fruit forward notes of jammed berries with a slight peppery note. The beef tenderloin was next; properly cooked and well seasoned. The sauces that were served with tenderloin were well made. Rich and creamy flavors. Nothing stood out but nothing fell flat either. The chocolate tower was for dessert. Delicious chocolate that wasn't overly sweet and a gold dusted macaron (interior tasted of hazelnut). Unfortunately I could not taste much pomegranate in this dessert...maybe it was more of a textural element. Service was polite and prompt from our main waiter. His support staff could use some work, the one young man would just come up at random and start taking/bringing plates without saying a word. Overall, I would come back to give it another shot. For the price, I was expecting more from the meal with some of the errors that were made.

At first I sat at the bar and I was ignored and I’m not sure if it was because I was alone or not dressed super nice, but I hate being ignored so I asked for a table because I was legit hungry. I’ve been traveling across the country on my way back from fighting wild fire in Oregon, I understand if I didn’t look great, but regardless maybe that’s me just being self conscious. Regardless, once I got a table my server was super nice and attentive and made some great recommendations, really nice wine pairing with the duck. I love French food.

Great wait staff and atmosphere. Very classic French cuisine. Delish.

My favorite is the duck Mac n cheese that's not on the menu. The duck breast and mille feuille were just ok. Service is very attentive.

This was such an amazing experience! I had dinner here on my birthday and cannot say enough about this place! First, the ambience is perfect. Nothing stuffy or pretentious about the decor, just warm and welcoming. Exposed brick around the walls of the bar and beautiful contemporary art hanging in the dining room area. White table cloths and a small candle on all the tables. The service here is some of the best I've ever experienced. We were offered still or Sparkling water upon arrival as soon as we were seated. Our waiter was so attentive and professional and we were very attached to him by the end of the meal. I ordered the 4 course meal and my date ordered the steak special. Everything was plated in the most delicious and beautiful way. The meal was one of the best I've ever had. They even placed a candle on my desert plate! I can't wait to come back.

The service is excellent! All of the food was awesome except the dessert. For paying what we were, I was expecting something amazing. We ordered the chocolate mousse and it came out on this bread that tasted stale. Out of the whole night, that was the only negative. The wait staff was great and answered all of our questions about the food and wines to pair with them. It's about $100 per person (not including tip and if you get a wine with each course). Overall we plan on going back, but we won't be getting the same dessert again. We would recommend this place as that one negative doesn't over power the rest.

My boyfriend and I celebrated two years of dating by eating at this restaurant. We’re from Indy and wanted to try something outside of our city. Jean’s was by far the best place we’ve eaten at! Not only is the ambiance soulful and classy, but the service is incredible and the food melts in your mouth. We recommend the lamb and the duck, as well as the Burgundy escargot for an appetizer. Steven was amazing, engaging, and fun! We will be back! Just over all big fans of Steven.

We had a wonderful date night at Jean Robert's table. We were greeted warmly when we arrived and taken right to our table. We had a delicious Qir Royal that was one of the best I've had. We started with appetizers -- my date had the goat cheese ravioli and I had the escargot. It was fantastic! For dinner, we had the scallops (they melt in your mouth) and the duck breast -- it reminded me of the food in the South of France -- so good. For desert, we had the chocolate mouse and the lemon mouse. My favorite part was the blood orange sorbet -- it was superb. Thanks Jean Robert and staff for a wonderful night

Always love it here. It's been over a year since the last time we've been. Used to visit much more frequently, but haven't had as much opportunity to dine here recently. Finally had the chance to and it did not disappoint. Decided to try some of the specials and not opt for our usual favorites and, as always, came away impressed. The presentation, taste, service, everything was great. Made us remember why we love Table so much and will be making a better effort to get back more often.

Had my birthday dinner / dessert here, and it was the most delicious and memorable meal I've had. It was all beautiful, cooked perfectly, and just right in every way. The staff was extremely accommodating and friendly, and the environment was cozy.

We looked at many menus online before deciding where to go for our date night in Cincinnati and we're so glad we chose Jean-Robert's Table! The food was amazing! They were creative dishes full of flavor and care. The wine selection was also great and we enjoyed our choices. But aside from the food the other thing that made our experience so fantastic and memorable was our server Jeff. He knew the menu like the back of his hand, made great suggestions and was the perfect combo of attentive and giving you space. You could tell he enjoys his work and I highly recommend requesting Jeff the next time you're there!

The service was exceptional. For starters, we had the Mac and cheese along with the Duo of Salmon. The salmon was delicious, but the mac and cheese was a transcendental culinary experience - highly recommended..! It was a special and not listed on the menu.. For entrees, she had the cod special with gnocchi and I had the duck breast. I would recommend the duck - several other diners likewise chose the duck, it was perfect and savory.

Personally it was the best restaurant in Cincinnati I had on a recent business trip. A range of excellent quality and perfectly executed recipes, an excellent wine list, all accompanied by the kindness of the staff. Really a remarkable experience that I strongly recommend.

Jean Robert's Table was wonderful this evening. We were seated immediately..the table was perfect..Jim was a fabulous server who followed our lead and took it easy..through cocktails appetizer and wine service..through our delicious meals and dessert. Probably the only complaint is the paper on the tables which is annoying because it catches on our sleeves...

This was a great choice to celebrate our anniversary. Very romantic feel, attentive service and of course great food. I had the beef tenderloin and she had the lamb. My tenderloin was prefect and the addition of a great mushroom sauce just raised the flavor.

Unfortunately I'm not a wine person but their beer selection is excellent. Great experience and not to pricey.

Absolutely loved it. We had foie gras, escargot, rack of lamb and skate. Everything was INCREDIBLE. I wouldn't have changed one thing about our meal. Usually when you go to a restaurant there are some incredible moments and then some not as great dishes but everything was fantastic. I can't wait to go back! This is definitely my new go to restaurant for special occasions!

Very disappointed. Appetizers were good but the entrees were less than great. Scallops were gritty, Halibut was dry and the Sole had to be sent back. Service was extremely slow, waitress was overwhelmed. Jean Robert was opening a new restaurant this night and I think he forgot about his moneymaker. When we talked to the manager he said he was the manager of the moment. All in all it was a trainwreck and probably we won't be going back.

P.S. Creme Brulee for dessert was served stonecold.

I can't imagine how I've so far neglected posting a rave review of Jean-Robert's Table, one of my longstanding Cincinnati dining favorites. JenH, whose review perfectly articulates my own experiences, reminded me of my omission. I would add only that skate wing is the entree not to be overlooked at JR's Table.

My friend and I had tickets to Cabaret and did not even think of dinner until the day before. Of course the typical places were booked and we decided to take a little walk and try something new. I was afraid this would be an over priced stuffy place. I was so wrong! The decor is eclectic and charming. The staff is well trained but welcoming and friendly. And the prices are high but the food is worth every penny. I ordered the haddock and my friend the scallops. We both were totally thrilled. I'm sure I'll be back!

I had heard about this restaurant on the Saturday CBS show and have been excited for some time to go, as I go to Cincinnati occasionally on business. We had high expectations and it did not disappoint. The restaurant is decorated wonderfully eclectic, and although it is fine dining, it was a casual bistro atmosphere. We started with a number of appetizers, including escargots, tartare and rabbit ravioli. All delicious with wonderful twists of taste. Main course was the duck, which was medium rare, juicy and just the right amount of fat. Chocolate mousse for desert was just decadent. Service was professional, attentive but not over bearing. Overall a great experience, will definitely be back.

World Class Dining. You have not eaten until you've eaten here. What a fabulous experience! Five star food served with five star service. I have found my new favorite restaurant. This a whole other level of dining. This is a Cincinnati treasure.

Jean-Robert's Table is a Cincinnati Treasure. Because nostalgia for Maisonette runs rampart in Cincinnati, comparisons to Jean-Robert's is misplaced and unwarranted. Jean-Robert's is a bistro, not a 3 star Michelin contender. The restaurant is representative of the bistronomy movement that is taking over Paris and Jean-Robert's is an incredible dining experience when taken within this context. Formality is out and casual fine dining is in. Any city, including Paris, New York, and San Francisco would love to have such classic and innovative French cooking in their midst. Jean-Robert is a master in the kitchen and his staff provides service with warmth and a smile. We choose to sit at the bar when we eat, as the tone and ambiance of the restaurant lends itself to a kind of gourmet "Cheers," if you will. (Sitting at the bar reminds us of the two star L'Atelier de Joel Robuchon in Paris where diners sit at a counter within sight of the open kitchen) Jean-Robert steps away from the stoves intermittently during service, shaking hands, greeting, and making sure his patrons are pleased and happy. This is not an absentee celebrity chef. Jean-Robert is a modern, creative chef, but he does not ignore the classics. His calves liver, onions and garlic mashed potatoes transport me to Paris every time and this dish is too difficult to sometimes avoid. However, we have tried many items from his menu and have enjoyed almost all of them. Remember, all good chefs experiment, and as often portrayed on "Top Chef," not all flavors match everyone's palate. The perfect restaurant for every person does not exist. I am thankful that Cincinnati has such great dining within a few blocks of downtown. Jean-Robert's stands as a little bit of Paris in the Queen City. It is to be treasured and deserves a much better rating on TripAdvisor.

We were very excited to try this restaurant, however, we will not be return customers. Last night's meal was the most uncomfortable experience I have ever had. It was raining, so our large party trickled in as the husbands dropped the ladies at the door and then parked the cars. My husband walked in and was immediately asked by the hostess if she could help him. He said he was meeting up with his party, but thanked her. He did not immediately see us at the bar, so took a quick " lap" around the restaurant. When he again walked past the hostess and toward the bar, she was commenting about him to another employee. She wasn't timid. It wasn't complimentary...
Next, two of us ordered the Chateau Burger. When the food arrived, the gentleman across from me had my order (a medium burger) and I had his (quite raw). The server looked at mine as he walked by and realized that it was not what I ordered. He quickly whisked it away and returned with my fries for munching while I was waiting. No problem there. A few minutes passed and the hostess, who did not introduce herself, and I had no idea who she was... Stood over me and said,"You are just eating that?". She was quite loud and her attention was a bit mortifying. Everyone around me stopped talking. The new hamburger was brought back and just fine. Actually, all of the food was fine. ( Crabcake was spectacular).
Finally, and I'm fuming over this.... It was my birthday. We were not specifically out and about celebrating it, but our night out with friends happened to fall on my day. I didn't want the candles, attention, hoopla, etc... Just a nice meal and nice conversation. Someone in our group mentioned the birthday as the waiter walked by. I decide to not order dessert, but the waiter decided to bring one anyway. Initially, I thought it was a very kind gesture, candle and all. However, I was very angry to see that he added it to our bill....classless. Sorry, Jean Robert..last night's experience was a strike out. Even food that good will not be enough to bring us back.

Who are we kidding? Table is in a different class from Boca. Boca is terrific but too much hat not enough horse . Go to Table for the wine list alone. Mucho gusto. Heirloom tomato...speaks for itself. If salmon wrapped in bacon ever reappears, I'm camping out on the sidewalk. Jean Ro rules. The short menu speaks for itself. No balloons for the kids, just serious food. Only complaint, no serious coffee for after dinner. Yikes, where did they get the coffee? Need someone serious about coffee. Plain dark and strong is needed. Rock on, Table.
Big Ben
Awesome food and a very well trained and knowledgable staff...classy place.

5:30pm 4/6/13. Good looking menu, hostess and parking attendant the best. made me feel welcomed. very busy but I was OK at the bar. ordered 4 appetizers and a good house wine recommended was right on. considering the crowd I was impressed with the quick arrival of food. all well and as expected. #1 foie gras torchon. still in the shape of the container it came out of and nothing done except plop it on a nice bread, ugh! #2 Braised oxtail ravioli. tasty stuff but some what stingy on the ox, I know this is an appetizer and not a meal, but. #3 sweetbreads. my favorite. shocking is the word. overcooked, maybe frozen, dry.not your fathers or mothers sweetbreads that's for sure. #4 ky caviar, good and well presented, tasty. repeat test trip is called for with great reservation

I ordered the special, a fillet. It was tougher than pot roast and totally uncooked. They brought me a new meal, but that arrived 10 minutes after everyone in our group had finished. They comped us with three desserts that we hadn't intended to order in the first place. Won't return soon.

Love this place. Food is always consistently excellent. Service is always attentive and very good, but sometimes a little stuffy. A great value considering the quality of the meal.

Downtown Fun Spot. Enjoyed ambience of restaurant. Food is good and totally enjoyed special appetizers from the Chef. Appreciated the convenience of nearby parking spots. Wait time reflected the crowd that evening but enjoyed the time having drinks at the bar.

2.5 hour Dinning Experience. This was our 2nd visit to Jean-Robert's Table, our first visit was exceptional and we were excited to return. The reservation reminder call informed us that our reservation was limited to a 2 hour dining experience. The service was at snail's pace and the food was just OK except my wife risotto which was under cooked, considering the time we waited it should have been over cook. We arrived at 5:30 and left at 8:00 of this we spent 40 minutes waiting to place an our order, 30 minutes waiting for appetizer and 60 minute waiting for our entree. In the end the food could not and did not make up for the time between each course and drinks. In the end we would have preferred a 1.5 hour dining experience rather than a 2.5 hour experience if this were our first experience we would not return. I hope this helps with improving your product and brand.

Class act. Great food. Good peeps. Nuf said.

All around great experience. Wow – all around great experience at a “reasonable” price (this was my 5th or 6h time dining). Fresh ingredients with an amazing “fusion” of flavors – great wine list by the glass/bottle……very nice evening!!!

HORRBILE SERVICE. Every time we go here it is the same story- the service is a at snail's pace but the food is good. Last night was the absolute worst experience we have ever had at JR's Table: over 30 mins before the waiter even came over to us-to take a drink order. Food order was taken 47 mins after we were seated. Over an hour to get bread which the bus boy was kind enough to bring. The food was good- but for Cincinnati it would be considered exceptional. In the end the food could not and did not make up for the HORRIBLE service. If you get the waiter with the ponytail and goatee ask to be seated in a different section, but that may not even help. It seems like the waitstaff is just not trained by Table.

Great lunch spot too. I have been to the Table a few times for dinner, but hit it up for lunch today. Excellent. Ate at the bar,, had a soup, app, entree and desert all for about $14. That may seen a bit pricy for lunch but when I eat at Skyline or Wendy's it is almost $10 so what is an extra 4 bucks. The food is great as always, and the staff is just great. Give them a try.

Outstanding. Not cheap, but worth it. Great food, outstanding service.

Loved It. Amazing A place everyone needs to try

Service was slow and the food was not very exciting. The vegitarian entre was totally lacking in creativity. Maybe i pickeed a bad night

Wonderful Experience. Dined here on Saturday evening. I ordered the salmon and it was incredible: wrapped in bacon and served with a beurre blanc sauce. My date had the foie gras and said that it was the best meal he had eaten in a long time. Don't hesitate to try it-wonderful food and cozy atmosphere.

Awesome. Clearly the best restaurant in Cincinnati.

Nobody blends flavors like he does. Genius. We had tres cochons, duck breast, and creme brule after. Service was outstanding. If you are a foodie, you won't be disappointed!

Best meal/best deal in town. Had the bar lunch there the other day = 4 course - $14. Not to be believed. Fabulous mushroom soup, salad, lovely main of fish and just the right amount of dessert. Delicious, perfectly portioned, prepared with the usual JR perfectness. Ran into friends too, making the whole hour an especially nice oasis in the day. Love this place!

Very Good!. I recently went there for dinner. The bar is really comfortable to hang out in. Ordered the sweetbread as an appetizer and it was fantastic. I ordered the scallops and husband ordered the duck. The duck was out of this world. My scallops along with the lobster sauce was on the rich side but really good. We had a great bottle of wine- St Michael Peppan Pinot Bianco-$48 for the bottle. Paired great with both of our meals.

Bon Appetite. Jean-Robert's Table has great imaginative food, extremely well prepared, and served professionally by Ann and the rest of her fine team. We like the flexibility the menu affords us. Last time I was there I ordered Potato Leek Soup and the Maisonette Shrimp Salad, just enough on a beautiful summer evening. The blue cheese burger, mussels, lobster with puff pastry, as well as everything else we have tried is always super good.

From the outside of the building you would never know what is inside but how wonderful.... We arrived about 15 mins before our reservation on a Thursday the host was very welcoming and told us to let her know when we were ready. We decided to grab a glass of wine at the bar which was comfortable and the two bartenders were friendly sharing stories of Jean Robert. The sauvignon blanc was lovely so we headed off to the table. Our server was lovely and had fantastic recommendations the best of which was my entree of sea scallops. We had a bottle of Pinot nior and started with the surf and turf tartar and the vol au vont lobster which our server described as a take on lobster pot pie and both were excellent. My husband ordered the couchon three ways and ate every bite:-). My scallops were perfectly cooked the risotto was good but the star of the dish was the lobster anise cream sauce oh my! For dessert we once again let the server guide us to the milk chocolate macadamia tart which was just delicious! The tart was the right mix of sweet and salty. We both ordered double espresso with dessert which were just slightly over pulled but still good. All in all we will be back, great experience and great service.

Love, love LOVE Table! But, blonde bartender in headband needs to ease up a bit...if you can't keep all the drink orders straight, write it down. Don't tell a paying customer to 'stop so I can get it straight'

So-so. I have eaten lunch three times at JRT in the recent past. All experiences were somewhat disappointing. At the first, I ordered onion soup, which had a rather burnt taste to it.
At the second, I ordered the burger medium rare. It came well done and with a charred roll. I also believe that the sauce was not as posted on the menu. The third was the worst. Musssels with virtually no sauce, fries with no dipping sauce, no lemon with the water as I ordered, no dessert offered at all, a delayed bill making me and my companion late in returning to work. She also ordered a burger and again the roll was burned. What's going on??!!

Excellent!

Great gem. Our first trip was for lunch. The lobster cheese omelet was light and flavorful. The calves' liver was tender and exceptionally well prepared. Service was attentive but not intrusive. The wine list was interesting. The ambiance was comfortable, not pretentious.

Omelet and Soup. Had lunch at Jean-Robert's on 1/5/11. I had the soup of the day, wild mushroom and it was very tasty. I followed it up with the omelet of the day, short rib and asparagus. Also very good. Can't wait to try dinner here!

7/10. This was probably the most highly anticipated restaurant of the year for me. I had been looking forward to going here for quite some time. Jean-Robert's Table did not disappoint.
I went with a group of 6. Overall, service was kind of spotty. Our waitress was pleasant and knowledgeable, but not always attentive or available. The wine we had was good, and I was impressed to see that the prices were reasonable.
Our tables appetizers were: surf & turf tartar, duo of snail and frog leg provencale, and smoked salmon. The tartar was probably one of the best I've had - salty as always, beautifully shaped, and the cucumber/radish salad on top was a nice compliment to the meat below. I had a bite of the frog legs and they had a tasty sauce on them and were cooked perfectly. The smoked salmon was surprisingly large, but standard.
The entree I chose was the skate fish wings. I had to try it because I don't believe I've ever seen that on a menu before. The meat actually tasted much like any flaky, white fish I've had before. A crunchy crust, vinegar dressing, and creamy spinach, potatoes, and mushrooms below made this a very savory dish. The skate wing was cut delicately and presented well.
The other entrees at the table were just as well received. The one that garnered the most attention had to be the 3 little cochon, which apparently is a favorite at the restaurant.
For dessert I had the pumpkin cream cheese mousse. It did indeed taste like pumpkin and it was presented well, but honestly the best part of the dish was the cinnamon gelato that came on it. As far as the other desserts ordered went - the maple and star anise creme brulee wasn't a huge hit, while the lemon tart was highly praised (and beautifully presented).
Overall, mostly excellent with a few bits that were just okay. I thought that the prices there were actually pretty reasonable for the standard of food you receive, and the restaurant is quite casual and fun for serving this quality of food.
Of special note is that Jean-Robert went around to all of the tables to personally ask how things were and to thank everyone for coming. Then, when we were about to leave, he held the door for us and thanked us again. It's easy to see that the chef, despite being held in such high regard by the city and the foodie community, is still a genuinely nice guy who really cares about his restaurant and the food he puts out.

It's.... okay.. Had dinner at Table Tuesday evening of this week. It was an okay experience, at best. For an 8:30 reservation our table was not ready until 9 so we huddled in the very small galley of a bar. Once seated, our waitress was excellent - informed, funny, prompt. I was in the mood for something simple and so I ordered the clam chowder and the blue cheese burger. The bread that arrived at the table was by far and away the best thing that I ate. The chowder... I would never order again. Strange texture, odd taste, kinda gritty, and the clams were chewy and rubber-like. The bowl it was served in was kinda cool. The burger tasted good as well as the bun it rested upon, however, the 'blue' was not the topping on the burger but was mixed in with the burger. If it really was, it was either very small amount or was simply overthrown by the flavor of this cabbage-based, slaw-like dressing that our waitress described as thousand island dressing. Really? It wasn't nasty, but I certainly was let down. The wine list was decent, but not grand. For the dollar value and overall experience, I won't be back.

Finally a real fine dining restaurant in Cincy! This place is amazing. The menu was creative and diverse. The mix of ingredients was fresh and interesting. The food was so fabulous words can't even describe. I had the sea scallops. The red wine truffle sauce that came with it was heaven. The pumpkin couscous was really good as well. The pumpkin flavor didn't overpower the rest of the dish, it was a great little touch. JRT has def. become my fav restaurant in Cincy. I can't wait to go back to try all the rest of the entres on the menu.

Freshness and Flavor Abound. I visited J-R's Table for lunch and there is definitely something for everyone (i.e. salads, soups, sandwiches and a couple lunch-portioned entrees). I found the atmosphere very comfortable, including a waitstaff attentive and eager to please. I was pleasantly suprised when our meals arrived at the table no less than 10 minutes after being seated. The Poached Trout BLT was well-prepared, including a freshness that you don't find in other versions. The trout was very delicate in texture and mildly flavored, but was perfectly balanced with the fresh vegetables and smoked bacon. The French Dip was the exact opposite with very intense, robust flavors abound. Starting with the grain mustard and carmelized onions, then giving way to the slightly sauteed spinach, there were lots of flavors going on but I must admit the richness hit the spot on a chilly afternoon. Overall, my first experience at J.R.'s Table was pleasant in many forms. While my sandwich was $13, the flavor and overall taste of the dish made up for the cost, as it knocked the socks off any "french dip" i'd previously had.

P.S. - Went at 11:30 and was nearly empty, but by 12:15 was almost full ( I believe you may eat at the bar as well, which was the only empty space). I would recommend making reservations to be on the safe side.

Unhappy Evening. We're big fans of Jean Robert and were looking forward to his new restaurant. We reserved for last night and arrived with high hopes. The restaurant was crowded (Tuesday night) and the hostess said it would be about ten minutes. So far so good but even though we had a reservation we continued to wait .. and wait ... and wait along with many others. After an hour and still no table we left without eating. To be fair, after 45 minutes they did offer us what I called the "Sports Bar Table", a bare wood table on some sort of medium height stool.

I'm pretty sure the food would have been good and if you are used to chain restaurants with long waits and buzzers to let you know when your table is ready you would probably enjoy the upgrade in food without sacrificing the atmosphere you enjoy and are used to.

It was sad and shocking to experience this after the restaurant had been open 10 weeks. That should be enough time to work things out unless it is operating as designed - high volume, try to turn tables quickly and let people wait.

Will be back!. With expectations very high, I was worried that I was setting myself up for disappointment. Our reservation was for 9:30pm, but was told by the hostess that we'd certainly be seated earlier if we cared to arrive early and sit at the bar. We arrived at 8:45 and enjoyed a drink and an appetizer (Lobster Vol-au-Vent - creamy, buttery, delicious). My friend had the Bee's Knees cocktail - which was vibrant with fresh lemon juice with a nice flowery/herby touch from the lavender syrup. I tried the Place Pigalle, which was fantastic, but I unfortunately neglected to make note of all the ingredients. The bar was hopping when we arrived, but we lucked out and found two seats right away. It was a nice mix of people - couples, groups, guys and gals. Some were there for the night, others just waiting on a table like us. Food and drink arrived promptly and with friendly courteous service, despite how busy they were. We were able to enjoy our drink and food at a fairly lesiurely pace, but were happy to find our table was ready at around 9:20 or so. My friend and I already knew what we'd be ordering, but asked the server for wine suggestions, as we'd heard great things. I was pretty disappointed that the first wine we were pointed to was $68. My friend and I are well-dressed, but in our late-20's - we clearly don't have that kind of money to spend on wine. Our server also knew it was our first time visiting, so I found it in poor taste that he was pushing us towards one of the most expensive bottles on the menu. I asked for some additional suggestions, and we ended up each ordering a glass of the Andre Tissot "Jr Table" Cremant Du Jura to go with our Frog Leg/Escargot appetizer, which ended up being a perfect match for the richness of the dish. The frog legs were delicious with a salt cornmeal type breading. The snails I could have done without - had a distinct plastic-y taste - as if they had been stored in tupperware. The mint sauce on the dish was wonderful. I ordered a glass of the "Soif De Tendresse" Chinon, Loire Valley to go with my duck entree, and my friend ordered a glass of the Cotes Du Rhone to go with her Trois Cochon. After sampling each other's glasses, we did find halfway through our meal that our server had switched our glasses - but we enjoyed our meals nonetheless. My friend's mashed potatoes were delicious and extremely buttery - and the pork chop was the surprising standout of the dish. My duck was tender and tasted wonderfully smoky and sweet - unfortunately a good portion of the silver skin had not been removed properly, making it difficult to cut as I was eating. We ended up ordering dessert (a birthday only comes once a year, right?) - the poached peach with almond cake and raspberry sobert, as well as the honey lavender creme brulee. Both were heavenly. Some of the best desserts I've ever had - and I'm not one for sweets. The creme brulee was intoxicating - the lavender was an incredible flavor. The poached peach was tender, sweet and tart, while the almond cake and the bright flavor of the raspberry sorbet was the perfect counternotes. Don't forget the french press coffee (at 1130PM!) which was strong and flavorful - perfectly brewed.

Overall - will be back again, but may focus on apps, drinks and dessert next time. Definitely a great addition to the Cincinnati food scene!

Heirloom Salad, burger and poached pear. Wonderful! The pear was especially great!

Tremendous. Every single moment and bite was over-the-top good. Jean-Robert himself is at the helm of this restaurant and it shows.

We had the smoked salmon appetizer, plus a special heirloom tomato appetizer. Entrees were the halibut and the tres petite couchons (three little pigs). Wow - on all scores.

I was prepared to be deeply disappointed, but the whole experience defied m expectations.

I urge you to try the place yourself and see what fine (and reasonably priced) food can be.

Loved It. We live in NYC but have family in Cincinnati. We believe his new restaurant is even better than what he's done in the past. Great food, wine, service, atsmosphere, and style. Also surprisingly inexpensive. We'll be back!

Welcome back! From the mussels appetizer to the bacon salmon and scallops entrees, this meal was well worth the wait. Now I can't wait to return. Jean Robert really shines here and Table reflects what Cincinnati has been missing. Bon appetite.

So glad he's back!. My wife and I went to Jean-Robert's Table for our anniversary a day early on Sat, Aug 14th. As we walked up to the restaurant we were immediately struck by the warm paint on the outside of the building. Inside the decor is extremely warm and inviting . We arrived at about 7:00 pm and the place was about ¾ full. We decided to pass on a communal table since we were celebrating our anniversary and headed for the bar while we waited for more private seating. We sat at the far end of the bar which gave us a great view of the kitchen-where all seemed calm and we caught the occasional glimpse of the great chef.

I had a great drink called the Bee's Knee-gin, lime juice, and lavender syrup-yumm! My wife had a peachy drink which wasn't very peachy.

After a short wait we were seated on the left part of the seating area which has a bird theme and is slightly elevated relative to the central seating and bar areas. The first thing we noticed was that we were the youngest couple we could see in our seating area. I'm 45 and my wife is . . . younger.

On to the food. The bread was warm and the butter was great. For starters my wife and I shared a great smoked salmon dish with a poached eg g on top and also a heirloom tomato salad with goat cheese and basil. Our waiter said the tomatoes had been trucked in at 3:00 am the previous night. The salad was amazing.

For my main course I had the chicken breast in the style of France which was served on a bed of fingerling potatoes, baby carrots, peas, and pearl onions with a chicken stock reduction. It was absolutely fabulous. I cannot recommend it highly enough.

My wife had the strip steak with anchovy butter on the side, a single romaine lettuce leaf, a mushroom, and a bit of eggplant. We thought it was supposed to have some potatoes, but none appeared. We asked our waiter about it who departed to find out. As we waited for our potatoes my wife commented on how there was a ton of staff and everyone we encountered was so friendly.

When our waiter came back it was with a plate of potatoes and a story. Apparently, the cook said the strip steak did not come with potatoes so our waiter had to bring the cook the menu which said the strip steak does come with potatoes. More grievously, the steak arrived looking like it had been under a warming light for a while. Perhaps it would have looked better with the anchovy butter on top instead of on the side as requested by my wife. Unfortunately, it was also fairly grisly. Sad.

Fortunately, the night ended well for my wife. She ordered the crème brulee and said it was the best dessert she has ever eaten.

By the end of our dinner at 9:00 pm the place was in full swing and full of lively chatter. Every table was occupied and there was a line of about 10 waiting for tables. We were no longer the youngest couple as half the joint was full of very attractive and well-dressed late 20-early 30 somethings.

As for my wife-she said if she had had my drink, the tomato salad, my chicken, and her dessert-it would have been one of the best meals of her life.

I'm sure that in the weeks to come after this, their opening weekend, and hopefully in the years to come nearly everyone who goes to Jean-Robert's Table will say that they had one of the best meals of their lives. Fabulous.

Cincinnati's New Best Restaurant. I ate dinner with a friend at Jean Robert's Table last night, August 10th, and I am truly impressed. I had waited for that meal for over a year, and neither of us were disappointed.

Jean Robert's Table is the perfect restaurant for downtowners, bridge and tunnel folk, and out-of-towners. The snail and frog leg hors d'ouerve was so tender and delicious, but the Andre Tissot Sparkling Wine, created especially for the Chef, made the dish complete.

Dinner consisted of a large duck breast with blackberry pepper sauce, asparagus, mushrooms, and soft grits prepared with my favorite, chevre (goat cheese). My companion enjoyed the strip steak with anchovy butter and an infused portabella mushroom that was so large we had to take its picture. My Cotes Du Rhone and his Burgundy were both perfect compliments to a perfect meal.

Then there was the cheese plate. Flavorful, distinct, and rich only cover the first cheese, Petit Basque. It would take me all day to describe the Saint Nectaire, Boucheron, and Bleu D'Avergne that accompanied the Cassis reduction and grape compote. Did I mention the homemade bread? The butter that was served with it was the perfect temperature.

No review of a true Jean Robert restaurant would be complete without mentioning the exceptional service. It was apparent that the hostess Ariel, the bartender Jeannie, and our server Adam were in their element. No detail was missed throughout the two hour meal. Adam let us dine at our own pace (slow and relaxing), and he was very knowledgable about the food and wine.

Prices at Jean Robert's Table are recession proof. Most people can find something in their price range, such as the $5 glass of wine.

Eat at Jean Robert's Table. Eat there now. Bon Appetit!

Desert was a fabulous little Napoleon. Not the paste-of-sugar-mashed-onto-the-top kind, this was a tiny bit of flake pastry which had had its top toasted to the most perfect perfect perfect golden brown, filled with a beautiful gooey Bavarian cream sort of filling, and sliced strawberries which were so much better than what you get in the store. It was a poem of a desert. They did attach a candle to the dish it came in, as well…since it was my birthday.

It’s really a cute little place—run by the former chef of the Maisonette, which seemed like the perfect way to finish the full circle of our eating experience. It is obviously a place frequented by local business people for lunch, as it got quite crowded. They also offer a 4-course $14 lunch at the bar in less than an hour, which is pretty cool. We opted for the regular restaurant though so we could order whatever we wanted.

We’ve reviewed Jean-Robert’s Table before – it was actually the first restaurant article on this blog – but he’s so willing to change things up while remaining grounded in an egalitarian American-French vision that this deserves a second look.

I loved the eclectic atmosphere of the restaurant. Charming, interesting, comfortable with class, and touches of France. Our server was attentive, with the exception of a huge gap in time after our entrees had been cleared, and he had a dry sense of humor that led to some funny one-liners. This restaurant is not for the faint of heart. You'll find snails, liver, tartar, frog legs, and more. It

You know, it's been so long since Jean-Robert had a restaurant I was beginning to think it might never happen. I know it's only been over a year, almost a year and a half. But I cannot deny my elation that the day is finally here that I can go somewhere w

No chef in Cincinnati, Ohio has more cachet than Jean Robert de Cavell. His previous restaurant, Jean Robert at Pigall's carried the fine dining torch after the closing of the Maisonette, which was the longest running Mobil five-star restaurant in the cou

The restaurant is comfortably appointed with woods, chandeliers, and neutral tones. The room gives an airy, not crowded feeling. Service is attentive but not overbearing. I opted for the three course plate, as our host had specific wines that he wanted us to try. I started with an interesting twist on my old favorite of escargot, which was served in a slightly sweet “savory” sauce, much akin to Emeril’s version of barbecued shrimp. From there, I moved to veal medallions, which the server suggested be served at medium rare, and it was some of the best veal I have ever tasted. While my fellow diners opted for desserts on the sweet, but heavenly side, I opted for Jean Robert’s cheese plate, which presented six contrasting cheeses splayed out in order of sharpness. Jean-Robert at Pigall’s was named one of the top 75 new restaurants in the world by Conde-Nast, just six months after opening. That was two years ago. I’m sure a repeat visit by the judges would find it the same. A wonderful experience. Dinner, Tues-Sat. Jean Robert at Pigall’s is located at 127 W. Fourth St. Cincinna

We've been watching the evolution of Table for months now. Only recently in the past few weeks were the doors and shutters slightly opened so we could peer inside as we walked past. the menu boards appeared to be jig-sawed by hand Once the long awaited op
