This is definitely my new favorite spot for some homemade, tasty food! The soups were super flavorful and delicious and all of the bread was so fresh and tasty and the prices were unbeatable! Such a cozy little spot too, I can’t recommend it enough!

What a discovery!! Amazing bread, delicious soup, huge sandwiches, and a glorious assortment of pastries - best value for your buck! The ONLY disappointment was all of the single-use plastic. Curious what solutions could be reached to alleviate this. We will be back!

Honestly? I haven't been here or even lived in Chicago since september 2016. That said, the menu is identical and the pictures of recent orders look identical, so im reasonably confident it's the same. It's been almost 8 years since I've eaten here and I *still* regularly think about how good it is haha. Every time anyone I know goes to Chicago, no matter how far, I tell then they have to stop here. The sandwiches, the soup, the goat cheese crostini!! I dream of it. Panes, you should franchise so I can get your deliciousness back in my life. Was just talking to my husband tonight, and favorite food places throughout the country came up, and he pointed out that if again- its been nearly 8 years- and I still am THIS obsessed, yall probably deserve at least a review. Thanks for the great vibes and the greater food. Can't recommend highly enough.

Without a doubt my favorite sandwich (Super Panes, hold the bacon) in all of Chicago! The breads here are handmade and the best!! Order in plenty of time for the holidays they sell out fast! Staff is always friendly and attentive!

I had the roast beef 😋. Very plentiful. Next, I'm getting the Super Panes with extra honey mustard sweet sauce. The place is always clean and inviting. You want a good sandwich...go to Panes.

Mushroom, bacon, and Munster cheese, fresh sweet Italian bread, and sour dough bread. Really good breakfast.

Their food is absolutely delicious and reasonably priced. Their house chilaquiles were crispy and paired with a delicious tomatillo salsa. They also accept card, which is contrary to what it says

Incredible. You can tell it’s family owned by the dedication to the craft. The bread was so fresh and delicious, same with the rest of the sandwich. And the chocolate chip cookie was irresistible, you could taste the quality of the butter and chocolate chips. Great meal for a fair price, can’t wait to go back to breakfast. Verdict - would go back & recommend.

This is the place for a cozy, quality sandwich spot! The inside is warm and colorful, and carried a fragrant scent of baked bread with a nuance of frying bacon. There is a lot of indoor and some outdoor seating. There are many varieties of sandwiches on the menu, but the bread is definitely the star. The bread from this cafe is noticeably fresh. The outer crust is lightly crisp and crunchy, and the inside is soft and airy. There is a subtle sweet and savory nuance in the bread itself. I would 100% pay just to eat the bread plain! You pay at the counter and they bring your order out to you. After you finish eating, you bring the basket up and dispose of the trash. There is also a dispenser for water at the front as well. On top of that, the staff is wonderful. There was a woman working when I went (maybe the owner?) and she was so lovely, I definitely need to catch her name the next time I stop in. All in all, Panes Bread Cafe is a must-try.
