I have been going to Hardware on a regular basis since they opened, when was it? 2004 or 2005? With that said, I have never had a problem with service and mostly positive with the food (sometimes your tastebuds just don't agree when you try new things, that is not the fault of the restaurant).
With that said, I most often sit at the bar with either a glass of Malbec or an Old Fashioned and will most often order a grilled cheese sandwich with bacon (my favorite/old standby) and a basket of fries with the dipping sauces. Make sure to dip your fry in both of the sauces and eat with it all together. I should just start mixing the two sauces together, but it's more fun to double dip!
Last night one of the special sandwiches was a tempura soft shell crab with bacon, avocado mousse and I believe greens with a truffle oil. DELICIOUS!! I wanted a second. Thank goodness I let my stomach settle before ordering another. It was that good.
But like I said, I never have had a problem with service. Everyone is always nice, attentive and I always have a great time because of them!!
While visiting Buffalo, we wanted to get a little taste of the nightlife. A friend who lives in town suggested Allen St. The entire area was fabulous--so much to see and do. We noticed Allen St. Hardware Cafe, read a few reviews and decided it was a must-try. As we stepped into the bar, we were instantly transported to different time. Calvin, the bartender, greeted us immediately as we sat down at the bar, helped us pick out a beer, engaged us in conversion and addressed us by name for the rest of the evening. For dinner, I ordered the Portobello Panini with goat cheese....so good! My husband ordered the BLT which was really fantastic. We each shared the sandwiches and ate them to the last crumb. Great place to visit...highly recommended by us!
Nice cafe, expensive food. I love the artsy feel of this place, the waitress was very nice. The seafood gumbo I had was wonderful, just the right amount of spicy. However, I feel like the prices were really high. French fry basket (which came with unique sauces) and two seafood gumbos was a little over $35.

Must Go on Allen St.. One of my favorite places to grab a drink, listen to music and have a good dinner. Originally an old hardware store on Allen Street, it was transformed to a cute trendy restaurant with a u shaped bar. On weekends another bar is open in the second room and sometimes events are held in the third back back room. Serve many specialty beers and your classic PBR! Boddington is another good choice in the winter. I like getting the paninis for my dinners and splitting a few kinds with my friends. The bruschetta is also a good choice and comes with roasted garlic cloves that you can put on as much or little as you want. The french fries come with different dipping sauces and condiments had some very good unique flavors. Try the specials they change daily. Have had some good items off the list. Thursday nights they have blue grass and Saturday nights is hip hop. Bartenders are some of the best around. Pat and Jay are very generous with drinks and shots.
Very good. Pat at the bar does an amazing job. Excellent beer selection, Pat is very knowledgeable.
Had a great burger. My only issue was that (and this happens at most places lately) is that I wanted it medium and it came well.
Sweet potatoe fries were probably the best Ive had.
It's really good. That's all I'm going to say because my husband and I love it and just about get a table when we go.
The meatloaf panini is heaven on earth between two toasty pieces of bread.
This is a neighborhood bar that has some tables, walls decorated by local artists and quality food. This is not a restaurant with a bar. As bars go this is a nice set up, horseshoe bar in the middle and an attractive, homey
Long before I became a regular in Allentown, I had read about Hardware.
