CÔTE D'IVOIRE 🇨🇮
Dispatch from Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn:
While comparatively small when judged next to parts of Harlem and especially some neighborhoods in the Bronx, Bedford-Stuyvesant's Fulton Street still holds its own when considering the treats to be found of West African origin. Chefs from a range of the francophone nations there can be found if you look hard enough, with those of Ghana a bit further south in Crown Heights and Prospect Lefferts Gardens. Outside of this zone, the storefront at this address on the dividing line of Bedstuy and Bushwick has been home to the foods of Côte d'Ivoire for quite some time.
The previous restaurant here, called Abidjan and named after the economic capital of the country, was on the to do list for most of its life, but West African hunger pangs always led to trips to different parts of the city. Less than two years ago in August of 2017, the owner of one of our favorite places in Harlem branched out to this Broadway location. Abidjan had the name and colors of the Ivorian flag displayed proudly on the awning, but Paradis des Gouts has decided to be a bit more subtle about its offerings with "African-French-American" under its name.
Those who have traveled the region or have experience telling the different nations apart will still see the telltale signs though, the first of which is the elephants on each side of the awning. The elephant has been of deep importance to the country since its founding, not least of which because of its source of ivory that gave it the name in the first place. Now that this practice is not as common, the animal is held in very high regard, especially with their national football team who have one on their crest and are nicknamed Les Éléphants.

My first time having French Ivory Coast cuisine and I was extremely impressed! A home grown restaurant, the food is made from scratch and takes time to get to your table but every minute spent waiting is worth it. Each person in my party had something different and everyone loved everything they had! Would definitely visit again!
The best African food in NYC. The lamb stew and couscous are amazing. The food here seems very authentic and the staff is very nice. The cooking time can take a bit but it’s definitely worth it! Be sure to look at their day of the week menu for special deals. HIGHLY recommend!

Great food. First time ordering from this place and it was worth it.
The place vibe is so cool. The waitress was very nice. The food taste is like home. Definitely a great spot for a different African cuisine.
Honestly, I was avoiding this place because I never saw any vegetarian dishes on the menu, yet my friends and family kept urging me to try some of their non meat sides. So I went and tried the Moroccan couscous with vegetables and som fried plantains. They definitely did not disappoint!! Watch the sauce tho! Its REALLY HOT!!
Stopped at this place out of curiosity. I've had home made African food before, but never at a restaurant. What an explosion of flavors in my mouth!! I loved it!! I had the jollof rice special with fish. The first time I had the white rice, and the second time I had the yellow rice. Both good! Don't be shy with the sauces it brings, they both add that extra umf 🤤🤤
It is so hard to find African food in the city compared to any other type of food but I'm almost never disappointed when I find such a restaurant and Paradis Des Gouts is no exception. I hope the local community continues to support this restaurant so I can enjoy their food years in the future. Best snapper in Bedford-Stuyvesant 👍🏾👍🏾
Love the takeout here. The salmon with charred crunchy onions and incredible sauces with jolof rice is a Last Rites meal. Love the spicy ginger drink, too.
The food was good. Very large portions and a very authentic taste. Will definitely come back to try out the rest of the food. The service was very poor. Maybe I caught them on a bad day. I'll have to adjust my rating after I go again. They brought food but no utensils and I had to wait a long time to order and to pay even though I was one of maybe 4 tables at the restaurant
