Been going here since they opened and it is hands down the best coffee in the hood. Now with the new menu it's even better since the food is fantastic, better than most restaurants in the area.
So cute, and cozy. Kind, and friendly staff. I only stopped in for a cappuccino (excellent), but
I can't wait to go back and try everything else!
I can’t believe for as long as I’ve been visiting Matter, I’ve never left a review! So, I’ve taken the time to go through my camera roll of about 2.5 years worth of pictures to delight you all with amazing cocktails I may not fully remember the names of, and food that have become a solid staple of this neighborhood gem. I’m sure if you show the picture to any of the AWESOME staff, they’ll know what drink you’re asking for. Shoutout to my guy, CJ!
Off the top of my head, my faves are the Bees Knees (gin based more than the rum, but both so good), the Tropic Thunder (my current number one), the Jackie Rose, and the Nolita Sunset. Also obsessed with their tap ciders for this time of the year. The best way I can describe the quality of the bar at Matter is that there aren’t bartenders here— there are mixologists 💯
The owner, Edwin, takes his time to curate EVERYTHING at Matter, and if you get lucky, they might let you be the first to try a cocktail they’re crafting and debating on putting in the menu (timing would need to be on your side 😙). And this is really what keeps me coming back throughout the years— Edwin is so deliberate with his menu and it shows in every sip and bite.
Let’s keep them going til’ the wheels fall off!!
Unique tasty cocktails. Good staff. The blue cheese was having a bad day when we came. The Mac and cheese didn’t have that baked feel to me.
Bay ridge was sorely lacking a craft cocktail and coffee spot, and this place hits the right mark! The inside is cozy (sometimes cramped) due to the long narrow shape of the place, but there is also outside seating when the weather is nice. The drinks are unique and strong, so you won’t feel too bad paying $15-18 per cocktail. We enjoyed the margarita and old fashioned, and would come back for a pre-dinner drink or two! The small plates of food looked good too, although still on the pricier side. If you imagine you are in Manhattan you won’t mind a bit!
Love this place!, great VERY well made cocktails, great food! Amazing burger. One of the best in bayrige. very nice fun people that know what they are doing. Definitely recommended if in the area!
Always love it here: whether for an afternoon cortado (love that they have this on the menu for those that still want to taste the espresso over the milk), a quick happy hour cocktail after work (the rotating "daily cocktail"), and in yesterday's case brunch! Loved the biscuit sandwiches, breakfast burger, and the "A Good Day To Die-quiri".The guys were super attentive, nice, and the curly long haired one was so friendly with a fantastic vibe he took the experience up a notch. One of my favorite local food spots (along with The Common).
Came here for brunch on Saturday, got the Breakfast Burger, my friend got the Quiche du Jour. Both were amazing! My friend was impressed with the portion size of the quiche and I felt the same way about my burger - Which has two patties AND a fried egg in it, and comes with fries!! It was delicious. Fries could’ve been better but I’m not complaining. Probably had to wait to get a table outside for 15 minutes after coming around 12:30 but not bad at all. Would definitely recommend this place. And their bellini was great too.
I really wanted to try avocado toast and if that’s what you are here for and don’t like strong flavors, this is not for you. It was rather bland but the purple (onion?) was very strong. There was a flavor that bothered me. Otherwise the place is nice and. small
Been here twice already—great place to get brunch!! Compared to the rest of Bay Ridge it definitely has more of a Williamsburg / hipster vibe to it… except the prices are a lot lower than getting brunch at Williamsburg. I highly recommend the brunch burger 😋 Wait staff were also very friendly. Try to come a bit later in the day if coming on a weekend… there’s quite a bit of a wait during peak brunch hours.
It's very lively on a Friday & Saturday nights. The food was delicious, the smash burger was decent and a good choice in the neighborhood. Only issue is the wait. I've been here a number of times and hesitant to return due to the lengthy wait times for food & drinks, Be prepared to wait and get apologies to follow. Happens to my wife and I every time, even last night.
Went for brunch for our first visit. The Bloody Mary was FANTASTIC as was the Pirate Fuel. The Breakfast Burger was amazing as was the avocado toast. Great servers, and as a major plus they were showing the original 1956 GODZILLA on the TV as opposed to the typical sporting event. This place is a keeper.
