I can’t say enough good things about our experience with Buttermilk Bakeshop. From the beginning of the planning process to the results, they were so helpful, responsive, kind and in the end of course, super talented!
We needed a cake for 50 people for our daughter’s Bat Mitzvah and she had VERY specific ideas about what it should look like. They were so helpful and patient and spent so much time getting all the details exactly the way we wanted. The process was easy and we always felt we were in great hands.
Also we realized very late that we needed a dozen specially designed cookies prepared and individually wrapped - and it was only a WEEK before our party — and they said SURE! And they could have charged us extra for the last minute addition but they didn’t.
And then both the cookies and the cake for our daughter’s Bat Mitzvah were gorgeous and SO absolutely delicious!! Better than we could have even expected!! We were so pleased and just can’t sing their praises enough!!!

With my daughter having a Very Special Birthday while living 3,000 miles away, I needed a Very Special Cake to celebrate the day. I reached out to Buttermilk Bakeshop for help and they were a dream come true. They made a gorgeous, delicious (and even gluten free!) Ultimate Birthday Cake for her, and helped me arrange it all from across the country. We didn't know until the last minute if the cake would be picked up or have to be delivered and they were calm, cool and collected the whole way. My daughter said the cake tasted incredible, and she and her beau are so thrilled to have Buttermilk Bakeshop in the neighborhood. I can't wait to visit and thank these talented bakers, and TASTE their beautiful work, in person. Attached are a couple of photos that don't do the cake or their decorating justice (and I covered her name) but just wanted to make sure you know this is a real 5-star review. What a wonderful local small business!
I had a fantastic experience working with Katy and Buttermilk Bakeshop for my wedding cake. I had no idea where to turn when looking for a wedding cake but still remembered a delicious birthday cake from a party years ago and was thrilled to learn the bakery offered custom wedding cakes and an amazing at-home tasting. We had three different flavors and worked with Katy who designed a beautiful and unique cake. Dreaming of the next occasion to work with them again!
After tasting a few different wedding cake samples from different vendors we were worried we weren’t going to find anything we liked but then we found Buttermilk Bakeshop. We are so glad we did! Our wedding cake was absolutely gorgeous and more importantly delicious. Our wedding guests could not stop commenting on how tasty both of our wedding cake flavors were as well as how amazing the cake looked! We had guests who said they never like wedding cake take second slices. We also cannot thank Katy enough for her responsiveness and attention to detail. If you want a beautiful, delicious wedding cake Buttermilk Bakeshop is THE PLACE to go.
Our wedding cakes from Buttermilk Bakeshop were so beautiful and delicious!! We wanted a small two-tier cake with a design to match our venue's ceiling, as well as 3 more "kitchen cakes" to be cut for guests. Buttermilk bakeshop helped us figure out how much cake to get for the number of guests we had, and accommodate dietary restrictions. The two-tier cake was so beautiful and unique, and perfectly matched the green ceiling tiles (photo by Elvira Kalviste). The kitchen cakes were delicious - we took home all of the cake leftovers and have been enjoying them since the wedding. The wedding cake was the "wedding cake slice" flavor - almond cake with lemon curd and raspberry jam, and the kitchen cakes were the "Rocher" flavor - dark chocolate cake with hazelnut buttercream. Both were equally amazing and our guests raved about them!
Ordered a fruit tart cake for my daughter’s Sweet Sixteen and it was beautiful and delicious!! She loved it. Thank you Buttermilk Bakeshop!!
Got two of the Ultimate birthday cakes for a double celebration we had last night.
They were absolutely delicious! Fresh, moist, flavorful and super cute looking. I’m an event planner and in my experience - guests usually care very little for cakes and it’s very hard to find a solid crowd pleaser. This was an absolute hit! Plates were cleaned up - everyone loved the cake and gobbled up the servings eagerly. Lots of guests asked where the cake was from - and I couldn’t recommend Buttermilk Bakeshop enough. It’s a fabulous birthday pick! 🎂
We used Buttermilk Bakeshop for our wedding this summer. They were very responsive, professional, and helpful when it came to deciding the look, quantity, and flavor of our wedding cake. We went with the lemon lavender cake and it was a hug hit! Not only do we love this flavor, but our guests commented on how delicious it was too. Our cake also looked beautiful. We sent Buttermilk an inspirational photo and ended up loving the look of our cake even more than the photo! If you're looking for a wedding cake (or cake for any other occasion) we'd highly recommend Buttermilk Bakeshop!
From first inquiry to pickup, buttermilk was so easy to work with. I ordered a custom cake that was even better than I could have imagined and a huge hit at a 5th birthday party by both adults and kids. A unanimous “best cake ever” with a fun twist- a chocolate cake with rainbow frosting layers and a sprinkles explosion. It tasted so good everyone had seconds 🥳
I had two friends both have big birthdays and wanted to do something special for them . Buttermilk was so easy to work with, they emailed back very quickly answering any questions I had. They also processed my request for these beautiful custom cakes with 7 days notice! Very impressed with the end result, my friends were so impressed with how they came out. Additionally I asked for a gluten free cake and if they could do the lemon lavender flavor which they responded quickly and said yes. If you live in park slope and are looking for a custom cake look no further this place is the best!!
