Staff are great, and the Dogs As Well!! More than one worker here has tried saving me money by suggesting I combine specials/deals on the menu instead of my own original ideas...and the food is good -- including the papaya drink! They keep the place clean, too, which is an accomplishment given all the foot traffic.
Not a hot dog fan, and generally have been disappointed by NYC greasy spoons, but finally stopped in here after walking past for months. The Chicken Tenders were really good, and the side on top ( per an employees rec ) was super amazing. Impressed by how they drop everything in the fryer on order. No basket of fries laying around waiting to be ordered. I can see why it's a NYC Institution
I love Papaya King! Just great New York hotdogs. It's an institution. Now, be aware that this location is not in the nicest part of Brooklyn. You are likely to pass vagrants and panhandlers (potentially even more unsavory characters). However, if you approach from the east down Fulton St. on foot, you should be fine in daylight or early evening hours. Great value and a must try in NYC. The Manhattan locations are a bit more tourist friendly. Since it's a new storefront, it's very clean and well lit. The Number 1 combo gives you two hot dogs and a papaya drink. That's the primary reason to visit. Feel free to try their other offerings, but the dogs and papaya are the reason to visit.
Open since '32. It's the original store. Stop by and check it out, good chili dogs.
Nice alternative to other chains for breakfast. The sausage, egg, and cheese on a roll was made fresh to order. Paired with a 21oz papya drink and it was the prefect quick breakfast. Without a whole lot of additives or the high price.

Papaya king is good for that late night snack. Great chili cheese dogs and onion rings.
But if you go here near the closing time, it seems to attract all the crazies.
