This place is one of the best meals in the city. Go and pay for the highest quality omakase at the omakase bar and you will be thoroughly impressed.

Amazing sushi and super attentive service. I’ll definitely be returning.

Amazing appetizers and sushi… black miso cod to rival nobu. Will definitely be back to try their omakase! I appreciate that they offer high quality sushi at various price points, with standard sushi entrees and more high end omakases - quality sushi at different price points.

My friends and I got the sushi omakase and the food was excellent! The only thing is the tables are pretty tight from each other, I would def come back regardless!
Food: 5 stars
Service: 4 stars
Ambience: 3 stars

The consensus among reviews is that this is the best deal Omakase you will find in Brooklyn, and that service isn’t great. Both points deserve more explanations.
First, there are a few Omakase options: the regular nigiri Omakase for $55, and the sashimi + nigiri for $75. They also have an open style Omakase mixing seasonal fish with some of the regular pieces. This last option is available at market price, which was $108 in our case for 12 pieces.
We took the open style Omakase and didn’t regret it. The fish was super fresh with a smooth texture, something we haven’t been used to on the East coast (sorry!). The seasoning in each sushi was also original (seaweed, yuzu, scallions), which was more in line with what we expected from an Omakase. Special mention to the sea urchin, which is always hit-or-miss. In this case, it was excellent.
One disappointing note though: in almost every sushi, the seasoning was slightly overpowering the dish, making it hard to taste all the subtlety of the fish. This imbalance was a problem, but despite this issue, the overall menu was quite good, and 12 sushis was enough for a dinner.
As for the service, it was actually fine. Our waiter was nice, and described every sushi with lots of details.
In the end, was it the best sushi of our life? No, but who cares, it was really good sushi, and definitely as good, if not better than some pretentious options that charge twice as much in Manhattan (*ahem Yasuda*).

Omakase was reasonably priced but more importantly, their fish selection is very good and very fresh. We got many fish from Japan and fish that is not normally served elsewhere. Their Saba, sawara are all house cured and prepared and it is so good. I can't wait to go back to this place!

We really loved our meal here. The omakase is a steal given the quality of product and the care in preparation. Flavors and textures were on point. Really appreciated the simple, modest environment and the staff were warm and friendly. Looking forward to sampling other items from the menu

The decor is very simple and sometimes long wait for table. Quality of sushi here is fresh, better than most sushi place around the area. Some people complaint overprice but they are not serving the same sushi as California roll places down the block. The price is on par with decent Manhattan sushi restaurants. Check the menu and pics on yelp before you go so you know what to expect.

We came on the recommendation of a friend over here. The advise was very good. The fish was so tender as butter, that the rice on the other hand felt hard - what he was not. Excellent service and at the end of a dessert on the house. We only feel a little pressure between the courses and the check was presented quite fast, although other tables were still empty.

Really good quality sushi and the omakase menu provides great options. The service was great and hospitable. This is a great sushi spot if you don’t want to travel into the Manhattan and want to stay in Brooklyn. And the price is amazing. You can probably find cheaper, but the quality won’t be as good. Definitely recommend bringing family and friends here if they enjoy sushi at a good price.

Had a kanpachi collar app, and multiple nigiri from chūtoro to kohada and unagi. Pieces are on the smaller side, but the fish is perfectly cut and exceedingly delicious, seasoned appropriately and sumptuous. My only regret is not having more time to taste more of the menu. It's been a few years since I visited Katsuei and I'm just as happy as I was on my first visit.

This was our first omakase experience. It was so good, so fresh and so freaking yummy. They have different omakase options which is good because it tailors to whether you're more sushi/sashimi lover. Can't wait to come back.

This place ruined sushi for me. Visited about 3 weeks ago. Had the omakase and a few al a carte items. SOOOOOO goood. The fatty tuna was one of my faves. Really a huge diff in quality versus an all you can eat place. Which brings us to...
Fast forward to today. Had all you can eat sushi at my favorite place and it just tasted like metal and jelly consistency. I know the quality can't be, and shouldn't be compared, and this is also a cheaper omakase but still.... To ruin the enjoyment of huge quantities of food with just a few dishes is a huge accomplishment to me.

The omakase is definitely worth it! Service is also great.

Very good quality and value for money omakase at this sushi joint. The chef was friendly and served the sushi piece by piece (if you sit at the sushi counter). Service was excellent as always here and had a very homely feel to it. Overall, would highly recommend this place to anyone whos interested in having an exquisite sushi experience without breaking the bank

Best omakase in park slope! So nice to get quality fish in the neighborhood. Such a good steal for the quality. The fatty tuna, salmon, and mackerel are favorites!

In a word, amazing. The omakase though expensive offers a unique and delicious culinary experience, a symphony of seafood! A knowledgeable staff and relaxing atmosphere makes for a perfect date night spot. The only fault I found is that I felt personally that the appetizers where subpar, the fried chicken and tuna avocado bowl fell flat. Overall though I would return in a heartbeat and look forward to finding a reason to go back.

The best sushi I've eaten in New York, even compared to the high-end places like Yasuda. Also a friendlier vibe with families and more reasonable prices. Table service is good, but I would recommend omakase at the bar for the most sublime experience.

Written up as the best value omakase in NYC, I would have to say it is may be one of the best tasting as well. I ordered the sushi & sashimi omakase. I have never had a better selection presented to me. The chef also makes each piece with its own sauce. The last time I experienced this level of umami was in Tokyo. The service is top-notch. Not pretentious or intimidating. I noticed afterwards that had been Michelin rated for the last 3 years. Definitely, will come back often. Amazing food experience!

Pricey. Got the sushi omakase. It was like 9 pieces and a hand roll for $47. Had a few pieces of good fish, but I also got a fried oyster. Now come on. Where's the uni, mirugai, or the amaebi? At least give me a scallop. Wife's sashimi deluxe was $35. Had tuna and salmon. I think if it is gonna be $35, an authentic Japanese place should skip the salmon. Once in a while indulge yourself... and leave hungry

Outstanding! The quality of fish is 5*. Tuna Avo and oyster appetizers are amazing and sushi Omakase is even beyond my highest expectations! This place is a must if you love sushi.

Our favorite new place for sushi. Sit at the sushi bar and order from the Omakase menu is a must!

Over priced!!!
Only 4 inches from next table
Noisy and very slow service
Brought my family from Tokyo and they agreed sushi was a little dry and small and double price they were disappointed
Brian Steeng
The best sushi ever. Great staff and ownership. I love Katseui.
Adele Frey Sabag
The food was crazy great, it makes you think, " what have I been eating all these years?" Dinner for two we didn't eat much at all, $200. I was taken back by the price, a bit out of my price range but. Definitely not 2$ signs.
Bessie Goldin
Pricey, but quality and freshness is what you pay for. Second time here and the sushi and sashi omakase did not disappoint.
Clarice Meadows
Omakase is a must. If the waitstaff mentions "(such and such) brought in from Japan" get it.
Jeffrey Rosenkrantz
Excellent quality of fish. It’s all about the fish and not so much of the crazy named rolls whic I can appreciate. Wish I had more time and money. It is a bit pricey and I was still hunger. Will have a better plan of attack next time.
Tom Furr
Amazing restaurant only a couple blocks away from our house. Expensive but well worth it.
Nancy Tucker
The best Sushi and sashimi I have had. I will go there again.
Rudi Mukerjea
I ordered the deluxe and it was very nice!
Eric Vieira
Best sushi in Brooklyn! The sushi omakase was amazing. Highly recommend.

This is amazing. I can't even. Over and over. Does a bear shit in the woods? Yes? Well then go here.
